Our family camps here about 2-3 times a year. Many people LOVE this campground, and it is wonderful for what it is. Where else can you camp so close to the water, ride bikes to the beach? It is a true gem, and wonderful for...More
I really fell in love with this campground. I love how we could watch the sunset on the water right from our site. I do have to say I did get sketched out in the middle of the night by the raccoons. I was warned...More
This campground is extremely well maintained. Clean sites, bathrooms, grounds. Lots to do for families. One thing I was unhappy with was the canoe rental prices - triple what we paid at other campgrounds ($35/hr for a double)! But the beach was pristine, lots of...More
I have camped here for over 12 years. Raccoons have been a problem at intervals in the past, then it seemed like the park managed to the get their numbers down. However, this is the WORST camping trip I have ever experienced here. As soon...More
Been coming here for years. The shower and bathroom facilities have been remodeled (needed badly) where now there is no longer privacy for changing when showering (really weird with kids) and very low water pressure. And we were two sites over from a facility is...More

Kayak rental is $23 for 1 hour, $29 for two, and $55 all day from topwater kayak which is in the park across from the dog beach. I could not find rental info from the onsite gift shop. We brought our own kayaks as well.

Although many sites have waterfront access, there are stingrays so nobody really swims there. Plus it’s very shallow. Good for small boats or kayaks but for swimming, we went to North beach, 10 mins drive away.

I would not attempt it with a child. Between winds picking up suddenly that can cause rough waves, and some very strong tidal currents, it is not advisable or safe. I have kayaked from the campground over to Shell Key many times, and am a very experienced kayaker, and I have struggled against strong tidal currents and winds. We have had several deaths in the channel from inexperienced swimmers drowning due to the strong currents and people getting caught in high waves and overturning when the winds kick up. Not worth the risk.
