Rude and thoughtless customer service. The owner expected me to keep my reservation during the heart of what forecasters say could become a level 2 hurricane in the middle of my 3 night stay. The county is under a declared state of emergency for the heart of the reservation period. Unbelievable to me that she wanted to keep $250 when I asked to cancel for weather because she was "turning people away." As if wanting to avoid the path of the storm was uniquely my idea and the others would have gladly held the reservation. I would have been willing to reschedule for next year's scallop season, but the offensive, rude discussion ended with them hanging up in disgust before that could even be negotiated. She begrudgingly did say she'd refund my money, but stated "You never call again". Sue, you don't have to worry about that!

Beautiful spot, excellent hosts. We have lots of cardinals, mourning doves and squirrels to watch in a wooded spot with a board walk to the bay and to the ocean. Went to get groceries at the Trading Post, because we have had enough of road food. Wifi, and a heater. We are off to sight see the Apiachicola National Park, and St Joseph's peninsula state park. Happy to be in warm and sunny weather.

We rented cabin 1 and it was an enjoyable stay but there are some things you should know before you go. They will tell you that there is a beach accessible to the bay from their boardwalk. There is NO beach, but a marsh. If you want to access the bay side beach or the cape, you have to go to the nature reserve up the street. It's only $6 to get in and well worth the money. If you venture down the thickly wooded boardwalk know that there are ticks and god only knows what that will attach to you while you are out there. Take some OFF or Raid or something. The cabins themselves are homey, I think the Golden Girls had the couches in our cabin and they were dirtyish but overall livable. Nothing but basic utensils in the kitchen, no foil, no seasoning, you are luck to get glasses. And the place is INFESTED with ROACHES! One crawled on me while I was on the couch. We told them and they gave us off brand raid and told us to go at it. Not the response I wanted, but my dad said if they don't have pest control that happens. Just know that. There are no blankets to speak of and the one blanket they had was dirty. Very thin sheet and comforter only on the bed. The shower was tiny, but worked, and there was lots of hot water. Know that pets have stayed here with every owner so the sheets are covered in fur. The beds are very firm! Overall a good experience if you don't expect much.

Our first time staying here. Very pleased with the accommodations. The cabins are roomy and have everything one would need. They are off the road and it is very quiet and peaceful. They are also close to the beach and the restaurant's in the area. Especially like that they are pet friendly.

The owners are nice, but sorry to say this place is very run down and dated. I like adventure, so did not mind this being in the "jungle", but .... bed spreads full of dog hairs and made the sheets dirty. We put our own bed spread down on the sheet and did not want the sheets touching us. We did not want to spend our second night. when it looked like rain and lightning all day. We could not bear to be in this place all day. Furniture worn out long ago - sagging and felt too dirty. Broken handles or missing handles on bathroom vanity. Refrigerator was rusty, looked to have mold on the top seal.. Yes I took pictures. The walk to the beach is about a 10-15 minute walk. If carrying beach chairs and coolers this is a chore. You cross the highway, walk on a paved road through a neighborhood (and no you can't park there), then take a board walk across a marsh with biting flies (which do hurt pretty good), and finally arrive. The other way to the bay is also on a board walk through "jungle" and much shorter. But you do have to watch for poison ivy on the board walk. Really the bay is the unique feature of this area. Clear water very shallow for a long ways and the scallops. If it rains all day ... this is no place for a family used to better surroundings.

We are just so happy and excited to have found such a lovely and quiet place to stay. Lots to do, pleanty of fresh air and nature all around. The owners are incredibly nice and genuine. My son loves it here. We will definitely return and I would recommend these cabins to friends and family. With thanks, V,V,N

This is a great place if your torn between a beach vacation or tooling around in the calm bay. A short walk gets you both places. Cabins are well used but spotless. Great for dogs who like adventure. Owners are very friendly and helpful, it's like having a friend with a seashore cabin. We'll be back!

The owners here are so nice and helpful! We lost our keys at the beach down the road, and they gave us a ride back to our cabin and helped us find a locksmith. Talk about full service! :) We stayed for three nights in the yellow cabin. Our cabin was clean and spacious. It's obvious they take very good care if their property. We loved the trees, palms and wildlife that surrounded the cabin. It's a nice walk to both the bay or the beach. We loved going out to the bay and watching all the crabs scurry around. You can walk out on the sandbars and see all sorts of shells and creatures. There are also several public beaches 5 or so miles down the road. The rates were great and reasonable for this area.

I have a very large extended family. We decided to have a group vacation, only 25 or so of us made it, but we had a great time. We rented 3 cabins, and thoroughly enjoyed our time on the cape. The cabins were roomy enough to sleep 6 adults or a lot more kids. Each cabin had a very large screened porch and a nice size deck, as well. The boardwalk to the bay ran behind one of the cabins, so access to the boats was easy. Take care of it like you would your own home. This is not a hotel, so do not expect hotel services, but the owners were gracious and the setting was beautiful. The cabins were well maintained, and the bathrooms and kitchens were clean. Everyone enjoyed their time at the Whispering Pines, and isn't that the important part about a vacation?

This was an awesome place to enjoy what Florida should be about. Pristine white beaches, very few visitors. Access to the bay and the ocean from the property. Preferred driving about 4 miles out the peninsula to the public beach for easier access and restrooms and showers. Cabins were well stocked with supplies and were clean and in order. Beds were excellent and AC worked very well. Enjoyed the screened porch to stay way from mosquitos. Very dog friendly and great location for dogs that enjoy the water. Enjoyed a new weber grill cooking freshly caught Mahi Mahi and shrimp from a local seafood market. Close enough to drive to Port St Joe or Apalachicola for restaurants or shopping, yet far enough away. There are three or four cabins on the property but you hardly see anyone else around. Overall a very nice place to get away to and would definitely come back.
