DO NOT STAY HERE! We checked in hotel and the receptionist gave us the first room of the entree, he didn’t even ask to us our permission! Because he was racist.. our room was not like the other ones he made it on purpose. We were two girls so we worried about our safety because the rooms are not safe and we were on the first room! Hotel is so old, dirty and stinks awful! Sheets are dirty and old, not clean and they were so thin like a napkin! Sockets are not working, the lightning is terrible.. Room and all hotel smells awful. We didn’t even use the shower to not get any illness.. Staff is rude and weird. Staying the streets are better than staying this hotel. At least you would be safe and feel clean.. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

Perfect overnight stay within walking distance to the beach and free parking! The room and bathroom were clean and quite large. We appreciated the refrigerator and fluffy towels. Not fancy, but very pleased with the location, the friendly staff and the Cuban coffee and pastries around the corner. The hotel does serve coffee and donuts in the lobby as well. The hotel ambiance is quirky and fun. Well worth the $100 spent !! Hidden affordable gem in Miami.

This place is essentially a scam. Booked via third party website - upon attempting to call the "hotel" i tried for days, no one ever picked up. Finally someone picked up and spoke something incomprehensible, and then hung up. I contacted the third party website and they reached out to the "hotel" but could never get through to them - so they couldn't process any type of change or refund. Normally to be considered a hotel you need a phone number / front desk - seems absurd to operate like this - should be classified as a hostel or apartment.

The James was in a prime location but was an eye sore over priced, bed hard like a box spring, bed quilt was mustard color and from the 70's like in the motels in the movies. Nothing was appealing but the location. The decor was like you could barely see the color of the walls it was so many ornaments, statues. Looked like motel in a horror movie, you knew something was going to happen.

The good first: quirky and very interesting building. Good air con. Nice toiletries. Close to all the action. The bad: everything else, I'm sorry to say. We parked the truck at the side, which fit easily into the space, when a lady came out to say no trucks allowed (fair enough, but later saw SUVs and Saloons as long as the truck parked there?). The afternoon staff lady was very cold, rude, unfriendly. She constantly had Court TV on in the lobby, playing doom-and-gloom stories about kidnappings etc. Not exactly welcoming. The room was basic, to say the least. I can handle basic, but the lack of cleanliness made my skin crawl a bit. I tried to be upbeat for the sake of my kids but I didn't sleep well thinking about the stains on the be bedding and where they may have come from, all over, grim room. At $200 for the room, then an extra $40 to park the truck across the street, I felt robbed. Having a beautiful building doesn't mean you don't have to clean and maintain your rooms, especially when you're charging that much per night.

Central located Hostel with large room, fridge and microwave. Beside main shopping centre, restaurants and beach. Car parking. Good price. Air con perfect, free morning coffee and snack. Wi Fi free. First impression is not good due to quirky nature of the decor but we stayed six nights, perfect for the location and probably the best value in Miami.

***** I read some of the reviews and was a little nervous about staying here . Well the reviews are wrong, hotel is very unique that's why we booked it. It is very clean, beds were comfortable, front desk staff was wonderful, if your looking for a very affordable stay in Miami this is the place. It is a very old hotel, so if your looking for something new this is not your place to stay. We will definitely book our next stay at the James Hotel***** *****Hope you book your stay here also*****

Hotel with a reasonable price compared to others in Miami Beach. Rooms are clean but not the most modern. It felt a bit like Cuba. There is free coffee and donuts for breakfast. Three definite benefits are a short walk to the beach, the own parking lot and proximity to Lincoln Road (restaurants and shops).

We arrived and checked in the hotel on December 24, 2022. The very first impression was the hotel had very strong moldy odour that I had to back out right away to catch some fresh air. The check-in process was problematic at first: we booked 2 rooms but they only gave us one room until I had to turn on my laptop to show the proof I had booked 2 rooms. At which time, they dug in their mess to find the other room for us. The hotel overall needed more than an TLC; it was old, run-down with cracked and patched walls, cracked floor tiles. The rooms (we stayed in 106 and 115) were filthy and moldy. It was covered up paint but I could still see black spots of black mold from water leak on the ceiling and wall. The air condition unit were not functioning in our room (106). The air filter were very dirty in my other room (115); it blew air plus dust and moldy smell! Parking was advertised as free but was limited and on a first come first grab! We were banged on our door at 6 AM in the morning because they wanted us to move our vehicle so that they could fit more vehicle in LATER; meaning at the time they banged our doors, there were no check-in and/or our vehicle was not blocking anyone's access in/out of the parking lot. They just needed us to move BEFORE other check-ins arrive at a later time. Hotel personnel persistently requested to give up our vehicle key but I declined because it was rental vehicle and if hotel staff caused damages to the vehicle, I'd be the one on hook for the damages. When I refused to give the hotel staff my vehicle's key, he was very upset and wanted to kick us out of the hotel. Overall, this hotel is the worst hotel that I ever experienced. They have zero regard to your safety, well-beings and/or enjoyment of their guests. All they wanted was to jam-pack more guests. I regretted that I prepaid for the hotel, otherwise, I would rather cancel my reservation, pay a little more ($30-$50 extra) to stay in Mariotte which is just 400 metres away! I got sick after breathing the moldy air in the hotel and in the rooms. It was the worst hotel experience that I never thought it could happen for a hotel in the US. I thought I was in a third world country. TRAVELLERS, STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND HEALTH!
