We didn’t wait long to get booked in at reception and the staff were very friendly. We got to our room and were on the ground floor, overlooking the bins from our window which wasn’t great and it was rather noisy due to being close to the bar. I asked to move rooms and be on a higher floor which happened to be on the second day with a much better room. They provide free beer and wine in the reception area Monday to Friday 5-7. If you want to get a drink by the pool be prepared to take a lot of money. $45 for two Pina colada’s was quite steep and that’s without tip.
There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which makes it a lot easier getting around, if you download the app you can get a day pass for around $5. Cheaper than Ubers.
Our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels when needed.
Pool area was nice with the staff providing towels and setting up your seat areas for you.
Great location, would recommend.

Everything about this hotel is amazing. The restaurant has tons of extremely good food, the pool is fantastic (not too overcrowded or loud) and the rooms are great. The daybeds by the pool are the definition of luxury, I definitely recommend renting one. This is the best Kimpton I’ve stayed at so far, I even got a free upgrade on all three of the rooms I booked on rewards nights.
The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, especially Maranda and Juan who were very accommodating and happy to answer any questions we had during our stay.
I will definitely be visiting the Kimpton Surfcomber again!

We considered our scoring and flipped between average and poor, but stuck with poor and here’s why…

Any room on the third floor not pool side suffers from significant noise from the HVAC plant on the hotels roof adjacent making for a terrible nights sleep. Something that could have been sorted with replacement glazing not the mastic which had been used.

Having raised our concerns when first checking in, we were met with a fairly unhappy response to our request and placed in a room 4 doors down with the same issue. The noise and vibration could be felt through the bed and even pillows.

Both rooms had faulting showers and damaged baths which were not useable. To add to the noise issues the AC in the room was also extremely loud. The carpets and general housekeeping was of a poor standard and our first room smelt damp and was very dusty.

Other things to note, the pool is in need of a deep clean and repair from lotion scum, hair and missing tiles. There was a party a week prior from what we understand and the sand area and grass were being repaired and much of the furniture wasn’t out until the last day of our stay.

It wasn’t all bad, the valet, high tide, pool and beach service team were very good and I feel that without them the whole experience would have been a disaster. Viviana especially wowed!

This was our first ever visit to the beautiful Miami and we felt extremely let down by our choice of stay for which we paid well.

I would strongly recommend viewers of our review consider some of the other beautiful neighbouring properties.

To start, when my husband and I arrived, the man at the valet station watched me remove our luggage from our Lyft with absolutely no effort or offer or effort to help. Then we arrive to our incredibly small room. It was extremely hot and humid, and the AC did not seem to be working. We waited til morning as we arrived late due to travel delays. Spoke to a staff member the next day, we were promised an engineer would fix our ac, upon returning from the beach our ac is still not working. We are told they will help. Nothing. The next day we ask again, they say again they will send and engineer. Again, nothing. It took three phone calls and us basically demanding a new room before any effort was made to move us to a room with working ac. And mind you this is south beach in July- it was HOT! When we finally do get offered a new room, 0 help was offered to move luggage upstairs. Also both rooms were Very small, and beat up. The bathrooms as VERY, VERY small with absolutely no counter or space for your things.

The staff in the restaurant seemed to be annoyed every time we had to walk through the restaurant, however it was the only way to access the lobby from our room, and the only way to get to the elevator when returning to the hotel. The food is also incredibly over priced and mediocre at best.

Our last night, we were made to leave the pool so the hotel could host a fashion show? The Incrediblely loud house music raged until 12 am and we had to get up at 4 to catch our flight home. When we called the desk to ask how long the loud music would go, they rudely told us midnight. We also had several instances of being woke up by very loud guests all through the hotel.

The staff make absolutely no effort to accommodate any guest who is not here for a rager.

Over all I would say if you want to come and party, party, party and sweat your entire face off. This place is for you. If you aren't a raging party animal. You should invest in a different location with more respect for the clientele.

I stayed here for a week in December 2023, I’m a diamond elite member of IHG hotels. The customer service is just awful at this property, the people who work here are unprofessional and there is no indication that management is even aware of the shortcomings. Allegedly, my room was upgraded but it was tiny, dirty, noisy and had no view. The music at the pool is so loud you can hear the words and easily sing along in your room. This goes on until midnight or later. One day housekeeping simply didn’t come at all. The staff had to have me come back to the desk because after running my credit card they somehow lost the number. There is very little other than its location on the beach to recommend this property - it’s well below the usual standard set by Kimpton properties.

We had an amazing time at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel! The location is unbeatable—right by South Beach, making it super convenient for a family getaway. The pool area is fantastic, with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and lush greenery that creates a relaxing atmosphere.

The pool water was clear and pleasantly warm, which made swimming enjoyable for both kids and adults. My two daughters (ages 8 and 11) absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave! The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a perfect daycation.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly spot with great amenities and a beautiful ambiance, I highly recommend Kimpton Surfcomber. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel for a few nights prior to boarding Virgin Voyages out of Miami. The location was great and suited us perfectly. Since we didn't have a car, we found a ton of places within walking distance or a short Uber drive away. Right out back they had a lovely pool area and just beyond that was the beach. Upon check-in, the hotel gave us wristbands for both the beach and pool.

Our first night there was rather wet and rainy. We decided to invite a few friends over and we stayed at the hotel restaurant and ordered food and drinks. The food was amazing and the drinks were spot on! All of the staff was great. You could tell that they each cared for one another and worked very well together. They all took great pride in their work and took exceptional care of everyone who stepped foot in their hotel and restaurant.

However, there are three people in particular that I would like to mention personally: Katarina, our hostess; Manny, our bartender ; and Mykel, the manager. These three are exceptional! It is not often that you find one, (let alone three), people in one location who are as outstanding at what they do as these three!

Our second and final evening at the hotel, we had previous plans to meet up with a group of people at another location. After that was over, my husband and I went back to the hotel bar/restaurant to say good by to Katarina, Manny and Mykel. They had made such an everlasting impression upon us we couldn't leave without saying goodbye one last time. It is because of exception people, such as these three, that will keep us coming back! In fact, we have already booked out next Virgin Voyage and we will be returning to Kimpton Surfcomber to stay again before leaving.

Thank you Katarina, Manny and Mykel! We hope to see you again very soon! (We failed to get a photo with Katarina, but she is no less important)!

The ratings indicate the Surfcomber is 4 star hotel. We make a point of staying at Kimpton hotels and usually find them very nice. This hotel is tired and it should have no more than a 3 star rating. Our room was dreary. The art deco interior design of our room is outdated and the lack of light through cell-like dirty windows made the room unappealing. The location on the beach is a plus and the staff was pleasant and efficient.

As a long time Kimpton fan, it is sad to report that this was a horrible stay in a run down, unclean, spring break party hotel that tries to pass itself off as far nicer than it is.

The good: Lovely front desk staff; nice pool; very close to the beach.

The bad: Lots

1) The walls are paper thin. There was a giant group of young adults crammed into the neighboring room, partying all night with blaring music, floor stomping, shrieking, breaking glass, and moving furniture. It wasn't just annoying; it was immensely disruptive and we were unable to sleep. We called the front desk twice to ask if we could move rooms or figure out a solution--once at 12:45am and once at 2:30am. Each time they said they would send someone to investigate, and the party would quiet down for about 10 minutes, then gear back up in full force. The second time we called the front desk we were told, “There’s nothing we can do.” The party raged until after 4am. Note that no key is required to use the elevator and gain access to the hotel rooms, thus people not staying at the hotel end up partying in the rooms. Anyone can walk in from the street and head straight up in the elevator—and they do. This is a spring break hotel for young adults who trash hotel rooms; I wish we'd known that.

Discussing our experience at checkout, nothing was offered in restitution. We asked several times for some type of discount and the hotel finally offered to wave the $40 resort fee. This was a missed opportunity to make things right with long time loyal customers. Because of that, Kimpton is losing our business.

2) Much of the hotel is dirty. The elevator had the same dirt and garbage on its floor for the 3 days we were there. Our bathroom was filthy when we arrived. Pubic hair on the walls. The tub (which is the shower floor) was coated with a layer of greasy film. It is also pocked and stained and chipped, leaving sharp edges. The walls and doors in our room were dirty with what looked like spatters of food. There is clearly no meaningful cleaning taking place. The entire room was worn and scuffed and depressing.

3) Also, in case you are planning on going this spring—know that there is a massive outdoor construction project going on next door. If you want to relax by the pool, you’ll be listening to very loud construction noise.

4) We had someone else's pool bar charge on our bill.

We heard the same complaints about all night partying and paper thin walls from other guests.
