There is a library, a room with a pool table with animal hunting trophies of the Maharaja hanging all over and some beautifully decorated lounges. There’s even a nice swimming pool that is perfect to cool down after a long day in Hampi under the sun. The breakfast buffet was abundant and delicious. There are fresh juices, pastries, any kind of eggs, dosas, etc. The dinner BBQ is a must. We loved the

We were made to feel very special in this former royal residence. The hotel is full of mementoes from the past- a library of old books, cabinets full of ornaments, a billiard room full of stuffed trophies. The food was excellent and served either in the restaurant, the beautiful inner courtyard or outside. We were lucky enough to eat in the gardens by the stunning pool, the meal accompanied by traditional music. The trip to Hampi took 40 mins each way but the quality of the hotel more than justified the daily trips in. After the bustle and dust of the ancient city, returning to the peace and quiet of Shivavilas Palace - and especially the big bathroom- was a joy. Hampi is magical, do make sure you do the walk along the river and also visit the Hanuman Temple slightly outside Hampi. The climb of 570 steps is worth it to see the amazing 360 view of paddy fields and boulders. Breath taking in so many ways ! Top marks for this hotel and all its wonderful staff. Do not miss the opportunity of staying here.

Our stay in this hotel wasn’t planned. It just happened because we decided to fly down instead of driving down from mumbai and had an extra day. Since we like ITC heritage brand booked to stay here for a night.
The route is very dusty and thru the mining areas. But once we reached we got a Royal taste of the kingdom of Sandur. For those planning to visit the Hampi temples from here it is an hours drive away and can be tiring. But for resting after the Hampi temples it is the best. The airport of Jindal is close by around 20 minutes I was told but the flights come in here from Bengaluru. The check in was efficient and they took us on a tour of the property. The place is extremely well maintained with highly polished floors, paintings and trophies intact. There is a functional temple which is opened for prayers daily by a priest. The breakfast was decent. There was a buffet dinner by the poolside the night we stayed as there was a function of Sandur residential school and a buffet party was organised for them. The rooms were extremely spacious and so was the bathroom. The wifi was patchy and even our local network didn’t work well.
It is a great place to spend with friends as there is a lot of lounging areas.

Shivavilas palace is one of my favourite destinations of all time, and it is not just because it is a palace converted into a luxury hotel. The sheer fact that this is one of the few properties which ticks all the boxes of luxury, hospitality, exemplary customer service and overall satisfaction levels just makes it an amazing place to spend a nice weekend or vacation especially if looking for good stay options around Hampi.

The approach to the hotel is very easy, there are well tarred roads all the way to the parking lot, the parking area is safe and secure. The check in and check out process is extremely nice and simple. The staff are always ready to help with a smile on their faces. The property is large and expansive, with plenty of things to see and do. The library was particularly well kept with tons of interesting books.

We had booked the deluxe rooms and the rooms are very large and airy, maintained very neatly and all the necessary amenities are well stocked. The bathrooms are large and airy as well. 10/10 score for the way the management has managed to retain the old world charm of the palace whilst ensuring all the modern amenities are provided.

The restaurant is fantastic although menu items seemed limited at first, the taste and quality and quantity more than make up for that. Room service was quick and efficient as well.

The staff went out of the way to ensure we had a fantastic time. I would like to Arun for the excellent room service of all the delicious food we ordered, Roopesh at the restaurant for amazing service whenever we went downstairs to dine there, especially for breakfast. The front office staff Lokesh, Praveen and Tejaswini were very helpful with the check in and checkout formalities, and very knowledgeable in suggesting us things to do during our stay there.

Special mention to Shankar the driver here, who also turns into a travel guide. He has excellent knowledge of the entire region here. He drove us all the way to Hampi and took us to every important historical site and explained to us the tiny little details behind every monument. He also ensured we stopped at the best viewpoints and lunch restaurant, making it a 100% perfect Hampi trip for us. Please do not hesitate to use Shivavilas palace’s taxi services for Hampi sightseeing, it is worth every penny and more.

Last but not the least, thanks to the manager here, Ms. Abha who spent time with us helping us curate our sightseeing itinerary on the 3 days that we spent there.

Thanks for all the amazing hospitality and excellent customer service, team Shivavilas! Will be back to visit Sandur again in a different season, perhaps in Monsoon.

This is a beautiful property surrounded by lush green manicured lawns with natural flora. What stands out the most is how hospitable the entire staff is. They will cater to your every need and do it with a smile. Right from the checkin process which lasted all of two minutes, to making sure the room ac was turned on before we stepped in, to serving coffee and tea near the swimming pool, their attention to detail is astounding.
I got a room on the first floor with a large balcony. The rooms are spacious with double heighted ceilings which give you the feeling of royalty.
There is much to do on the property. For kids there is an activity room and a swimming pool. They also have some outdoor sports equipments.
The food is also amazing. Everything we ate here was good. No complaints. Breakfast was also amazing. I found the spread to be adequate. What they might miss out on the number of items, they more than make up for it in terms of taste.
I would definitely recommend this palace for anyone looking for a holiday on this area.

The hotel is not in a very touristy place - other than the ancient Kumaraswamy temple, there is hardly anything to do in Sandur. In house, the vintage car museum is more like a garage, there is a small pool to keep you cool; you can cycle around a bit or play darts in an activity room. But thats just about it!

So what made the stay memorable / worthwhile - indubitably the service. Mr Sameer & his team personalize the experience to an extent you start feeling 'at home'. Be it humoring a kids wishes for doughnuts ( at night ) or helping with the day's itinerary, arranging a spa appointment in a different hotel...there is no wish that these genies cannot fulfil!

The room we stayed in was quite atmospheric. Breakfast, however was pretty modest but still tasteful...

An absolute must do in my opinion...best wishes to the team!

We came back from Hampi not only with the memories of the ruins of Vijaynagar Empire but also with the imprint created by the Shiva Vilas hospitality.
Mr Sameer deserves a special mention here. He always made sure of our comfort and delight factor. Delight came through his management skills ranging from keeping the kids too immersed in doughnuts , arranging for vintage car gallery and museum tour.We have been to many hotels across the country but never came back remembering each and every staff of the hotel. Mr Swamy was another person who kept us happy through tasty and customised menu. Other staff were also very courteous though i am forgetting their names.
The rooms standards in terms of hygiene matches any star hotel. Adults and kids have ample activities to do in leisure time ranging from swimming to board games. Otherwise a stroll around the beautiful palace itself so fulfilling.
Though its little inside but given the choices in Hampi this stands out to be the best option. I will surely recommend this hotel for an absolute luxury cum relaxing trip to Hampi.

We were 4 adults and 4 friends who had originally planned to stay for 2 nights but had to extend the stay by one night as the place was so awesome. Large, spacious rooms, asthetic decor, amazing pics of wildlife and nice touches that reminds one of childhood home.

What really makes the place tick is the team of super efficient and patient staff. Special mention to Joseph, Praveen, Tejaswini and Biswa. Nothing was ever too much for them. Good, simple food and a lovely pool.

We will definitely visit again. This was an unforgettable vacation.

I cannot recommend or praise this hotel highly enough.
Not only a beautiful palace in a fairytale setting but all the staff were so helpful, generous with their time & nothing was too much trouble if it made your stay more pleasant. Your every need was anticipated.
The food was delicious & we enjoyed every meal particularly the general manager’s menu recommendations.
We booked for two nights but stayed for five as it was so relaxing & welcoming.
We have to give a special mention for our hotel driver Fayaz.
He was amazing, not only waiting an additional three hours for our delayed train he was very attentive & helpful when we did eventually arrive!
On subsequent trips out he was a very safe, steady driver happy to stop for picture breaks & very informative about the temples we visited. He always had a bottle of water on hand when we had wilted in the heat!!

This hotel will be a hard one to beat in our further travels!!

I visited this hotel in Aug 2022. The experience was horrible from booking date. I booked 3 rooms on a weekend via their corporate office at Delhi. Since it is a ITC hotel, I paid 50 percent advance. I received mail confirmation too. A day before stay, the person calls me and demands additional money. As per him, since it is long weekend, the tariff of hotel has increased from Rs 13000 to Rs 24000. As per him, their sales head refused to take booking. I was shocked and perplexed; how can some one be so unprofessional?? That too a ITC hotel brand. The hotel denied to refund my amount too. It was like a blackmail to pay additional money. After lot of arguments they agreed to honour booking/contract.
We travelled almost 700 kms to reach hotel. On arrival, at reception they demanded balance 50 percent payment. Just an unwelcoming gesture. They didn’t even allow to check in luggage. Hospitality was at its lowest standard.
The food and staff were good, but the hotel management is totally disappointing. They promised 15 percent discount on food during booking, but denied while paying bill.
Please be aware before booking and paying advance! You might be next victim.

We spent 2 nights at this place and what a wonderful experience it was!! We really liked the spacious room, very big balcony, the tours to vintage car museum and maharaja's durbar. The property has lots of green cover and is very well maintained.
We were bowled over by the hospitality, courteous staff, and prompt room service. The food was always served quick, hot and it tasted incredibly delicious.
Highly recommended if you want to pamper yourself with royal treatment in a well-maintained palace.

The closest airport is Vidyanagar (VDY) which has direct flights from Hyderabad and Bangalore by TruJet. The airport is about 30 mins from the Shivavilas Palace. The hotel can book transport to the airport and also to Hampi (which is about 1 hour away from the hotel). Alternately, there are many travel agents that can arrange a car for the full time that you are in Sandur/Hampi

Can the hotel arrange a guide for us?
Answer from Ardhanareeshvara

Guides come in all shapes and sizes at Hampi from the basic types who are more comfortable in the vernacular to the more sophisticated ones speaking English and capable of showing foreign tourists around. It is recommended that one selects a guide of choice in the vicinity of Krishna Bazar and agree on the duration and fees for the tour in advance. There is a good guidebook on Hampi published by the Archaelogical Survey of India which is useful as a reference . As I presume that you are staying at the Sandur Palace heritage hotel, you can seek out the affable Manager, Mr.Joseph to assist in your search.
