This is a boutique motel with a lot going for it. From the Cuban styled decor to the enchanted hammocs right on the sand outside your room, to the coral walls, everything was beautiful . What was not up to par was the pool which was not heated.

I am glad you loved iIbis Bay. I like your suggestion too. We are re-decking the restaurant and pool area with beautiful Brazilian mahogany boards. We plan to put in a heating system that will keep the water temp at 82ª. So come and see the changes. You played a role in making them happen.

I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to vacation lodging because I've been lucky enough to stay in some exceptional places. However, while Ibis Bay Resort was not plush by any means, I have no complaints from our recent stay. The resort itself was an old rundown motel before it was completely renovated. The only things that appear to be...

I love using my scooter around town. I have a car too, but so long as the forecast is sunny, I zip around at 25mph tops on one of our Yamaha scooters with the wind in the hair (what's left of it!). It's one of the pleasures of being on a tropical island. Its the closest to feeling like a...

We were here during Christmas week with two of our kids and we all had a great time. The hotel is very kitchy with a retro vibe and we loved it! The view from our room, overlooking the sandy beach and the bay was wonderful. We loved the hammocks and the chairs on the beach, along with the docks to...

I really identify with your review. My wife and I have a big family including 3 grandchildren plus 2 more on the way. That's why Ibis Bay is so family oriented. Our adult children love coming here from New York for the beach, the great food and jet-skis. Their kids loves the giant tortoises, the talking birds and our outdoor...

Pros: beach front rooms, pool, turtle pen, retro decor, friendly accommodating staff, free shuttle to downtown, pier lounge chairs , fridge, microwave (upon request), paddle boat / jet ski rentals, daily housekeeping Cons: weak wifi signal ,the "guest" charge of $5 per adult per day to cover parking and Internet. But don't worry about wifi you'll be having too much...

You are right about retro. Ibis Bay is Key West's original 1956 resort. We have brought it up to date without taking away the things that make it so unique. So, come on back but make sure you don''t step on your blue suede shoes just have a be-bop-a-lula time.

We came down over Christmas to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. From the moment we stepped into the lobby--we had excellent service. The hotel staff/bar staff/restaurant staff/rental staff/shuttle staff were by far the friendliest people we have ever experienced. We had the family room (5 of us) and the room was quite sufficient for our needs. The view from the...

Busy holiday weekend, found a room at the Ibis Bay Resort. Our queen size room was the "economy room" (one of only a few available that night 12/27). Very small room, noisy air conditioner, but we were not spending much time in the room. Shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water (important in the Keys). Resort offers...

Ibis Bay was built in 1956. Its a great piece of history from The Florida 50s so "Key West funky" is a good word for us. We love it. We have a great staff so I am glad to hear you enjoyed their service and The Stoned Crab Restaurant we have on site. As you seem to visit Key West...

So i'm going to split my review into the good part and a bad part: The goods: - The location is fantastic, you walk 10 meters and you're in the ocean. - The small patio you have is so nice (when the weather is with you) - The transport to town is there once an hour. - Pet turtles are...

We came down to Key West with a group of friends for 1 night. This has got to be the cutest hotel. The front desk, housekeeping, bus drivers, Stoned Crab staff have been very helpful as well as friendly. I will definately stay here again. Yes it is close to a major road, but sound is not a problem.

Finding a new, great place to stay or a new restaurant you love is one of the best feelings there is. I am glad that's how you feel about Ibis Bay and the Stoned Crab restaurant. Marika is home in Hungary for the holidays for the next two weeks, but this will be a nice surprise when she gets back. I am glad you enjoyed the animals. I am currently staying at this hotel and I cannot wait to get out. The hotel is advertised at ocean front which is a lie, the hotel is nowhere near the beach. Rather, it's located by a bay and ocean front experience it's not at all what the name may suggest. You are by dirty water in a bay, no...

Most people love us. But not everyone. If our fully restored 1950s vintage Florida hotel isnt what you wanted, you don't have to slam us, just say its not your style. Your anger here is based on the fact that what you couldn't get a refund on your non-refundable package. Our policy is the same as the airlines. non-refundable means...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ibis Bay is exactly what you dream of when you imagine Key West. It's a friendly, quirky resort with design and colors inspired by 1950s Havana. The landscaped white sand beach leads right up to the beachfront guest rooms, and guests can jump right into the beautiful bay for swimming, snorkeling and take jet skis, kayaks or paddle boards right from our dock! The staff are all Key West locals who love the island and want our guests to enjoy their stay. We have exclusive attractions like our poolside Dive-In Movies every Wednesday night on a 20ft screen by the pool, plus Nightboarding nightime LED-lit paddleboarding and kayaking! Wildlife abounds on our grounds including huge tortoises, lots of large colorful parrots, local iguanas (don't touch!) and our namesake, the very pretty ibis birds. In the mood for some fun? Ask our Fun Desk concierge about our jet ski, scooter and electric car rentals on site plus paddle board, kayaks and kiteboard rentals on the beach. They can also recommend off-site activities, restaurants, tours and local attractions. We have 80 hammocks for lazing about, and an amazing restaurant called The Stoned Crab that has two of its very own fishing boats delivering fresh crab, shrimp, lobster and fish every day!
