Our stay at Gilbert’s Resort was one of the worst nights we have ever spent at a Hotel. At 5 a.m. trucks arrived below our room (305) and men started unloading heavy equipment. At 5.30 a.m. they started what sounded like a compressor and began maintenance work on the roof directly above our room. The noise was deafening. We were really concerned that the roof might come down. Impossible to sleep. When we checked out at 8.30 I complained to the receptionist, who however seemed not interested at all. No explanation, no apologies. I asked to speak to the manager. I was told that he was not on the premises and could not be reached by phone. They could have assigned us to another room when we checked in, knowing that the maintenance would start early in the morning. I wonder why they did not.

Gilbert’s is an out of the way resort that has everything we needed. Free breakfast is adequate. Would love to see some prepackaged items that are gluten free. I was able to eat bacon and yogurt. Pool area is nice, Tiki Bar has very good food. Room has been updated, was clean and the beds very comfortable. The only downside to the rooms are the size, they are small, but nothing can be done about that. The best part of our stay was the view outside our room. Large windows with a deck. Beautiful water view. Tip...If you have a fisherman in your family, bring fishing gear if you are able, fishing off the dock right outside our back door. They sell bait at the resort. We went into town out bought fishing gear for $90.

We only stayed for a night and it was a fall back for us because we couldn’t find anything else that wasn’t booked. It’s probably the best kept motel I‘ve ever seen - rooms are recently renovated with modern bathrooms, a/c worked impeccably, water views from the room, restaurant on site etc. The bed was too soft for my taste and there’s no sleeping in with little kids starting to scream around early in the morning. For us it was a good base for one night to visit John Pennekamp State Park and explore Key Largo on a Florida road trip. But I wouldn’t choose it as a beach holiday base for a longer stay.

Great resort and very nice Tiki Bar. The food isn't even that expensive and thr serving size is good. Ac was a little loud in the room, but still good. Very lively at night with the live band. We did the kayak tour...

We really enjoyed this resort. Clean rooms, convenient location, good drinks and great food. Good amenities at the resort and enjoyed fishing from the end of the dock...Very nice to have drinks at the tiki bar while watching boats go by. We will make this our annual stop to Key West.
