I almost hate to write this review because I will likely never find a vacancy available here again afterwards. We found this motel, which is actually a grouping of duplex cabins, by accident on the web, and took a chance. It sounded too good to be true for the price. When we arrived I asked to see our unit before signing for the balance of our stay, and felt silly for doing so. The cabins were cute as can be on the inside. We had a mini fridge, toaster, full size coffee maker, and they provided a small microwave on request at no extra fee. The beds were the most incredibly comfortable beds I have ever slept on (including my own memoryfoam mattress and the mattresses at many higher priced big name hotels!). The large, sunken bathroom shower was incredible. And everything was clean. Each duplex had its own picnic table and chairs in the front yard, and a shared BBQ and clothesline. The beach was little hard on bare feet, but was great with water shoes...nice swimming and snorkeling right there! The free kayaks were a bonus. Do not let the little bit worn and well-weathered sign out front throw you off; this place is a great find!

The Bay Cove Motel always feels like "home" when we go to the Keys (several times a year).

We (my husband and I, in our 20s & 30s) stay there with my parents (in their 40s & 50s) and always have a wonderful time. It is a great "base of operations" for a vacation in the Florida Keys.

The Bay Cove feels more like staying in a family member's beach house rather than a fancy motel. Sometimes a little worn around the edges, but it gives it charm. The people are nice, the property is kept reasonably well, and it's a great location.

We love walking from the Bay Cove at night over to the "Coconuts" restaurant at Marina Del Mar - an easy walk, and you don't have to worry about having too many margaritas to drive home, hehe! Also if you'd like to buy your own liquor - there is a "Denny's Liquor Store" right up the road (again, easy walking distance) that has a great selection and reasonable prices.

The back side of the property is indeed right on the bay, with a long pier (perfect for stargazing at night) and a sandy area (not really a "beach" per se, but it's sand by the ocean!) that has picnic tables, a few lounge chairs, etc. My parents have even scuba dived right off of the pier - you see everything from crabs & fish to manatees - right on property!

There are kayaks for use (fun!!) and hammocks under coconut trees (relaxing!). Many of the units have kitchenettes, which is great for folks like us who like to hit the Winn Dixie and cook our own meals at "home" from time to time.

If you have lots of family members - consider renting "the house" on property - lots of beds, pull outs, fold outs, etc. Reasonably priced. And the backdoor goes right out to the bay.

We've stayed at the Bay Cove many, many times over the past several years, and after enjoying another visit this week I thought I'd come make a post here to put in my praise.

Only bad thing really - no internet! But for some people, that could be a good thing.

Recently stayed at the Bay Cove Motel in Key Largo. Decided to book this motel from the pictures on their web site. Looked like the motel offered a wonderfully sandy beach, just perfect for relaxing and playing in the water. Pictures were pretty deceiving. In actuality the beach was very small with lots less beautiful sand.

The motel room itself was ok, except for lots of little bugs—but seemed they were common in many of the motels in Florida. There wasn’t much to do for us in the area, no pool and the water was pretty weedy, so wasn’t real welcoming. I think it might have been a good place to stay if you had your own boat and planned to fish. The folks that ran the motel were very friendly and nice, but I wouldn’t plan on staying here again. Oh, also no ice machine, but they did have a refrigerator in the room. Rooms did not have phones, but able to use the one in the office.

I'm not sure I would visit Key Largo again, unless I had my own boat or planned a snorkeling trip. We did enjoy Coconuts Bar at Marina Del Mar Resort for some great frozen drinks, food looked good too.

My husband and I rode a motorcycle from Wichita to Key Largo. By the time we got there we were more than ready to rest. I was unsure of any motels in this area and decided on this one, partly because we were running out of time to find a room and party from the pictures. We were look for something with more of an island feel rather than a resort. We found the perfect place. The managers were terrific. They recommended places to eat that were fabulous and were very nice and welcoming. The rooms were not big, but very cute, clean and comfortable. There were a couple of squirrels running around that were obviously used to people being around and were fun to watch. And there were gecos everywhere from tiney to 3-4 inches long. My husband found me a beautiful conch shell too, but it was already claimed by a crab, so we let it go. The water was warm and their little beech was very comfortable. Overall, if we ever go back to the keys, I will probably not go past Key Largo and will definiately stay here again. We were thoroughly impressed.

One must know what to expect when planning a trip to the Keys. It is a mecca for fishing, boating, and diving and not a Caribbean resort area. Staying at the Bay Cove Motel enhanced my visit to Key Largo. It offered a quiet and peaceful atmosphere for relaxing. The rooms were large with the usual amenities. There was outdoor seating, a small protected beach area and a marvelous boat dock extending bayside which made a great spot for viewing the sunsets. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Bay Cove is a quaint place out of the 60's. It is a small family owned and operated motel right on the main highway and the bay side of Key Largo. The rooms are small but adequate. Clean and well kept but not luxurious. It is also extremely affordable! They have a small beach on the bay and a dock to snorkel or swim from. The owners are eager to please and will do what they can to make your stay pleasant.

I have been down to the Florida Keys several times (10+) in the last 2 years and Key Largo is by far the best Key of them all. Not to far from the mainland but far enough to relax and enjoy the quiet and relaxing “Island life” Bay Cove Motel offers. Very easy place to find too, just look for the fork in the road and the tower above at mile marker 99.5 Bay Side. I am an avid SCUBA Dive Instructor and there are a lot of dive operators very near Bay Cove Motel too (like Captain Slate’s Atlantis Dive Center).

Bay Cove Motel has always been a great place for my groups to say at. I love their dock. The sunsets are spectacular from this spot, especially with a drink in hand. Their rooms are clean and quiet, (and well air-conditioned if so desired). Plenty of space to wash and hang dive gear up to dry too, a real plus for us. Cell phones work great from here if you are so inclined but I usually like to escape all forms of “civilization” while staying here. Their beach is small and well protected for the young-ones to play in and kayaks and boating are frequently seen here as well (they even have a small boat ramp to launch boats and kayaks from as well). We have even seen manatees on several occasions come up and say hello. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Very cool place to stay! I’ll be back for sure.

Our first trip will definitely not be our last! We absolutely LOVED the feel of this little place! Are the rooms new? No, they are not, but that only led to the charm of the place. You felt like you were at a home away from home. It has a great, laid back atmosphere and the view is amazing. What a place to go to get that peaceful, easy feeling. Both John and Margot were very accommodating and provided service that you would not get at a larger chain motel. Upon our arrival, John had arranged to have boats at the dock ready for our use. We were even treated to a pig roast on the beach! I understand that this was not a regular occurrence, but when you are at Bay Cove, you are treated like family. Guests are invited to attend functions! The sunsets are beautiful! You can fish from the dock, kayak free of charge, relax in a hammock, grill out, or host a gathering under the tiki hut. Very relaxing just sitting on the dock and watching the sailboats in the bay while the manatee and other aquatic life swim around in clear water. This has become our future Keys destination!

This resort is a great deal with it's own private beach area, outdoor grills for every room, and private dock. The managers and the owner are all fantastic people.

Quick access to the SCUBA diving and snorkeling establishments in Key Largo and Islamorada as well as Pennekamp park.

We have stayed there 4 years in a row now and will make sure to be back next year. I turned down a "Gold Crown" rated resort in Key West because I prefer this location and this motel. That should say how we feel about them.

If you get a chance also check out the little restaurant next door Mrs Mac's Kitchen. It is the People's Choice Award winning restaurant for something like 18 consecutive years and the best Key Lime Pie in the anywhere in the Keys.
