Dove Creek Resort & Marina, Trademark Collection by Wyndham
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Dove Creek Resort & Marina, part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham, is nestled in a picturesque location that guests love, with easy access to ocean views and local attractions such as 'Snappers'. The spacious rooms, often with pleasant views, are a plus, yet some guests highlight concerns over cleanliness and dated interiors.
While the atmosphere is generally well-regarded, with amenities like screened porches, the perceived value is marred by a resort fee that many find unjustified due to basic amenities and some maintenance issues, such as a cold hot tub. Service experiences vary, with instances of both friendliness and unresponsiveness.

Was expecting a full service resort experience given the name and the Wyndham brand. Desk is only manned from 7:30 - 7pm; arrived after 7pm so was on my own to check in. Key was left in an envelope in a box - which was fine, but they must have changed the room #'s but forgot to take down some directional signs so took some time to find our room. It's a well appointed property with a small beach, but the amenities are basic at best so you don't get much for the $30 resort fee. Guest room was spacious, comfortable and clean but definitely run down. Screened in porch was nice, but sliding glass door was very difficult to open. All of the screens need major cleaning. Was also surprised to see that a building was under construction so building materials were a bit of an eyesore and there was nothing mentioned about the construction. The minimal staff onsite were very sweet and the continental breakfast was fresh and more than what I expected. There is a privately run watersports company adjacent to the property and although we didn't dine there, the restaurant Snappers is a short walk away. There are no F&B outlets at the resort. Overall, our stay fell short of expectations but was "ok."

Fine old Hotel with Great Ocean Views (some rooms)
We enjoyed our stay here at Dove Creek Resort. Our room and balcony had a fantastic ocean view. The room was very spacious, clean, with a great kitchen. It almost seems like this place was once condos - the rooms have more of a condo look then hotel. The staff were very helpful and gracious. The included breakfast was the typical hotel type continental breakfast. The coffee was good.
The key attraction to this place is the location - it is right on the ocean. If you can get a room facing the ocean, it is very nice. Most of the rooms, however, do not face the ocean. There is no beach - the shoreline is an impenetrable forest of mangroves with a small opening to launch a kayak. The Snappers Grill is right next door. We walked over and had a nice dinner there on our first night, and there was a great rock band playing oldies.
On the flip side, this place is showing its age. Everything is old and tired. There was a construction crew on site doing some sort of work. The manager told me that the place had been recently purchased by a new owner, and upgrades are planned. There is a mandatory $30/day resort fee to pay for the recreational activities. They list kayaks, bikes, ping pong and corn hole toss! These all were pretty laughable. There are 4 beach cruiser bikes to borrow, of which one was new and in good shape. The other three were creaky old yard sale relics with more rust than the sunken shipwrecks off the coast. There a 3 single fiberglass kayaks to borrow that seemed in workable shape. The ping pong table is a wobbling old rotting warhorse. Corn hole toss - yes, it is there. It's the kind you would get from Walmart for a backyard July 4th party. If you are staying here I would recommend disputing the resort fee charge.

First, we must agree with others ... this is really not a 'resort'. During our 2 night stay, the cove area was FULL of that Sargassum seaweed issue that has been in the news. While completely out of Dove Creek's control, charging a 'Resort Fee' seemed a bit of a stretch under these circumstances. You could smell it, you could see it. You could not easily use & enjoy the kayaks or swim in that cove area. There is no beach. The pool area is small.
Our room itself was fine, but no lock on the patio sliding door, had to use a broom handle. Also for us too, on our first night the only way to flush our toilet was to take off the lid, reach in the water, and pull up the flapper ball. We had to wait until the next day to have it fixed. The breakfast was surprisingly OK. As previously noted ...for us too, no de-caff either in the room or at the breakfast. We did find the staff friendly and responsive. A plus for us was having Snappers right next door for easy food and drinks and music.

This place is not worth staying at. Safety is a big concern. All room doors have the hinges on the outside making it easy for anyone to remove the pin and enter your room when you are not there. The windows do not latch securely another security issue. This resort looks like it used to be nice but it has become very rundown. Signage from the street is very bad making it hard to find. I really would not classify this as a resort yet they charge a $31 resort fee per day. It has a free breakfast but the day we were there it was not served until 8:30. They claimed they were short staffed so couldn't open the breakfast area on time.

This so-called "resort" is just so disgusting! As you can see in the pictures the pool is totally unusable as it is covered in bird droppings. The top step on the pool was broken (or just very crooked), tiles are broken and the whole pool area is disgusting. I imagine it has been that way for days or weeks. There was a beer can and other debris floating in it as well. The room was advertised as ocean view, as you can see it is not. The room was dirty and of ill repair. The patio didn't lock (barely even opened) however a broom stick was supplied to lock the door (classy). As you can see in the pictures the patio door and track are disgusting, and haven't been cleaned since who knows when. There is a sign in the room declaring that they do not actually wash the cups/glasses. They are just cleaned in the room which means they are rinsed in the bathroom sink or tub I guess. (hard pass) I showed the front desk clerk the pictures and she mentioned she has told management that everyone complains about the misleading ads describing this as ocean view. The only good thing is there was a nice sunrise in the morning. That's it. Do not waste your money!

This place was a complete disappointment. We did not even end up staying. From the beginning I had called with a few questions, no one would answer. I left a message twice and when they finally did call back, they could not give me any straight answers and then hungup on me. Upon arrival, the signage is very hard to see and the place just looks rundown. As we were walking up the steps to the lobby there was a large dead bird on the staircase. As I walked through the eating area to check in I couldn't help but notice how dark and dingey it was, the area where there was cereal and toasters was covered in crumbs, the windows were fogged over with who knows what, and then dirty rags and a large open bowl of water I'm assuming from breakfast was sitting out. Note we didn't arrive until 5 hours after their breakfast service would have ended and it was STILL not cleaned up. The check in area is also a mess, not how you want to be greeted for a stay at a "resort". We had requested a late checkout but was told it would not be approved until the day of check out because they wouldn't know what was going on until then. As if there is no system in place with reservations? It only got worse when we went to look at the room they gave us, it was FILTHY and it smelled awful. The corners on the floor were caked with dirt, the baseboards also filthy. We never even unpacked our car. So right back down to reception we went to let them know there was no way we would be staying. She could not issue a refund and said a Manager would have to call me when they were there. We then had to scramble to find another place to stay as our flight home was not until the following day. They charged me and I am still waiting for a resolution. DO NOT BOOK here, it is incredible to me that Wyndham would even put their name on this place. Save yourself the hassel and book someplace else. Worst experience I've ever had at a hotel.

Beautiful location, large airy rooms, friendly staff. Very happy for our 4 night stay. Very good welcome by Rose, who also tried hard to help us when we lost a credit card, a real credit to the hotel. The self serve breakfast was very filling, and being from the UK we eventually worked out how to use the waffle maker. Only thing missing was a room safe, but apparently this was in hand to sort out. The location of 'Snappers' a minutes walk away was really useful.

This is a tired and dated old Hotel and it’s a stretch to call it a resort. First experience was the room had an overwhelming chemical smell. Had to air out room. We went to use the pool/spa, then and the health department was there closing both due to unsafe conditions. Responded to management text welcome message with issues, no response. Had to call them four times just to get the resort fee removed. No other credit was offered nor would the manager speak with us after several requests. Overall outside of facilities in need of major attention and updating exposed electrical wiring from junction boxes, bags over electrical panels. Went with a high-end room with Ocean view. It was dated, furniture damaged patio screening ripped entry door hinges broken, and rotted. Ocean view mostly blocked by vegetation. Steve was polite and did the best they could with what they had to work with Very disappointing when you’re paying close to $500 a night. Left after one night.

I don't know if I should start with the fact that our room had four mini prison windows that was considered an "ocean view" or the idea that the housekeeping sign to come and flip the room is not used; we were told on the second day in the afternoon that we have to make a verbal request for housekeeping and that they don't use the signs even though they are there for you. We left the sign purposely to get the room flipped and came back and it was the same and the sign was missing. Our room smelled of marijuana on the second evening we came back so apparently our neighbors decided to partake . The air conditioning is not Central AC and works poorly . We ran out of towels on the second day. We were called on our second day there at 11:00 a.m. and asked if maintenance could come in to look at a leak because our room was leaking into the room below us. I asked if they could come the next day because I only was given minutes to make the decision. We left the next day after scheduling for 11:00 a.m. for them to come look at the room and we came back to the same dirty room. The property is run down and although it says Wyndham on it do not be fooled; Wyndham has not started renovations on the property yet. The manager was helpful and giving us a refund for our last day but the property itself is run down. The pool is hot and maybe two degrees cooler than the hot tub itself. The cornhole game outside is ripped, there is old food products and a jar of Prego Sauce that was there the entire time we were. The room was run down all the bed itself was comfortable period there was no dresser and very little room to navigate period there were also four doors that were all locked in the room no idea where they led to. The closet had no light. You are required to check out pool towels however on day one we were told they were being laundered and it took until day 3 for them to have more than one available. They are kept in a bin in the lobby . I did try to call the front desk at some point but the phones do not work in the room. To top it off there is a jet ski rental place attached to the property that we tried to rent jet skis from at 4:00 p.m. given that there were still six sitting there and the man told us he was booked for the day. He was not. He tried to get us to pre-reserve for the next day only to be closed when we walked outside at 10:00 a.m... keep in mind this town closes at 10:00 p.m. at the latest and half of the restaurants and bars are not open every day of the week and the only two places in town open past 10:00pm are dive bars. Won't be coming back to Key Largo anytime soon. Best part of the vacation was eating at Sol by the Sea and Calusa both excellent restaurants in very nice hotels.

So glad we stayed here for a few nights before attending a wedding in the area. Loved the pretty view and watching the sunrises and swooning birds from our balcony with morning coffee. Room was very clean, bed comfy, and we enjoyed both kayaking in the mangroves and biking along a designated route to another nearby beach in Tavernier. Expanded continental breakfast was appreciated with hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt and fresh fruit accompanying very good coffee and the standard bagels and pastries. Yolando and her colleague were always there with a smile to answer all questions about the area and were even kind enough to allow us to use a room to shower and dress for the wedding after we’d already checked out. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

There are quite a few fishing charter trips and plenty of bridges and the occasional fishing pier along the Keys. Would suggest you view on google maps for directions to these. If you fish for tarpon they only take chicken nuggets, ignore everything else. Poor sense of taste some of these fish.
There are more places to choose from in the Key Largo area.
