Rock Reef Resort is widely regarded for offering comfortable and value for money accommodations, with a few guests cautioning about potential hidden costs. The hotel exudes a charming, artsy ambiance complemented by a laid-back Keys atmosphere. Staff members earn accolades for their personalized and attentive service. While the variety of room options are generally clean and cozy, some guests have noted occasional issues with water pressure and reservations. The resort's tranquil location is celebrated for its convenience to shopping and attractions, though nightlife seekers may need to look elsewhere. Cleanliness is a strong suit, particularly noted in the well-kept grounds and pool, with a single mention of a less-than-pristine shower. The hotel's amenities, including lounging areas, gardens, and water activities, are frequently praised, enhancing the community feel and overall guest experience.

The vibe in all of Key Largo is very oriented to diving and snorkeling. Rock Reef is very laid back. Sassy, the owner’s dog is clearly a highlight, what a great dog! The owner is super friendly and engaging if you want to stay in the office and chat. The front desk actually showed me both rooms, the one I booked and one that had not been booked and we picked it since it was on the first floor. By the way both rooms were great, so we would have been happy with either. By the way the ‘choice resort’ Kona Kai is next door and I thought where we stayed was nicer (they are ten feet away from each other when you walk out to the pier) Next trip I think we will stay a few days longer and maybe grab the beach cabin (name of the room). The location is good for someone interested in relaxing, not for those looking to walk to bars, etc… we stayed most of the time out on their pier and enjoyed a breeze and a cloudy sunset.

We stayed in one of the beach side cabins while getting scuba certified and could not have asked for better accommodations! The place was immaculately clean with a fully stocked kitchen including ice trays, coffee maker, blender and toaster! The shower had great heat and water pressure and each room had it's own air system. Look no further and stay here, great kayaking and a nice pool with beautiful sunset views from the dock in the back.

We arrived at the Rock Reef Resort after a long day of driving through Memorial Day traffic to find a charming place well cared for grounds and everything was very clean
the pool was spotless even had a pool lift to help me in and out from my wheelchair
Our room was nice roll in shower grab bars where needed which is required for me with my disability I complained about the height of the bed it was so high i could not get into it from my wheelchair, I have had this problem in the passed and talked to other hotels about this issue. To our surprise about 10 minutes later the owner Linda was at our door asking how she could make things better I suggested removing the box spring and putting a piece of plywood there instead she took care of it right away for us which had never happened before which made my stay very enjoyable. The sunsets from your dock take your breathe away. Linda you have a beautiful property and wonderful staff the way you dealt with my issue was amazing no one has ever been so understanding as you were Thank you very much Ed Bell

Ed, Thank you for such a wonderful review and your lovely words about Rock Reef, my staff and me. When you arrived, we could tell that you had a stressful day. We all wanted was to make you feel comfortable, at ease and happy to be here. When we came to check in on you really wanted a bench instead of the one on the wall in the shower So I offered both the bench and a chair. You said the bench would work better for you and it was delivered. We also made the bed easier for you to get in and out of, which we were happy to do. We had great conversations with you and your wife and I was so happy to see you at sunset. When it was time for you to go, I was so happy to see the twinkle in your eyes and such a lovely smile on your face. I also enjoyed the hugs that your wife and you gave me. It just made my day! Thank for staying with us. I hope that if your ever get back here, you will come back to share more time with us. Thank you also for your helpful hints.

We had room 16 and it was amazing!! Highly recommend the comfort double room with the king size bed and city view! Parking right in front of the room, free wifi, nice tree line on the property to obstruct the highway view. Very private. Room very nice and seemed brand new. Keurig maxhine in the room, they provide coffee the first day but bring more for additional days.
Publix is only a few miles away though. Comfortable bed, nice shower, very quiet and close to many restaurants. Even got an email letting me know the room was ready early for us to check in. Beautiful pier and dock to enjoy your morning coffee and evening cocktails. Easy check in and checkout. No housekeeping but they have a bin you place your dirty towels/linens in each day between 9a-1p and they provide clean ones as well as complimentary beach towels. They also have books you can check out to read complimentary too!! Nice pool area and lounge chairs!!

Our trip to Rock Reef last week marked 16 years of staying with Linda and her great staff at this wonderful little resort in the heart of Key Largo. My wife and I found ourselves saying again and again last week, "it's our best trip ever." We've fallen in love with Rock Reef, first visiting in 2008, getting married there in 2013, and visiting nearly every year since. Rock Reef is a quaint boutique resort on a beautifully maintained property with clean, comfortable accommodations and a private, cozy bayside beach. The sunset views are just stunning. Most importantly, everyone at Rock Reef makes us feel at home, including Sassy the dog. Linda, Jerry, Ashley, and the rest of the staff are ready to accommodate any needs that we might have. Wishing to experience Old Florida charm in the 21st century? Look no further than Rock Reef Resort!

Thanks you so much for being such a loyal guest and such a good friend. We never know when you will meet a couple and you can just talk and talk and really get to know someone. It is such a pleasure to see you year after year and sometimes even get the girls and see how much they grew or see what they are into now. You defiantly know how to enjoy the Keys and also how to just relax and watch the sunset at the end of the day. Edward said thank you for the fish! The picture you sent me of that fish was something else CONGRATULATIONS! Hope to see you next year so we can laugh together and just catch up on life. Oh, thanks so much for the encouragement that you gave me---it is greatly appreciated and meant a lot!

This property definitely has a nostalgic feel to it, but has been kept updated and you can tell the owner takes pride in maintaining the grounds. It is not a corporate owned chain and had a homey feel to it. We had a room in the main building that faced the highway but we didn't really notice any road noise. It was a short walk to the beach area and pier. Perfect spot to watch the sunset! The cottages by the water looked very nice and would be a good option to be closer to the water. There are hammocks and chairs throughout the property to relax in. Also picnic tables and grills for guest use. The only minor complaints we had were inadequate electrical outlets in our room and the water pressure in the bathroom sink was almost non-existent. And the walls were pretty thin - we could hear people in the next room talking quite often. But we recommend it and would stay here again!

The pictures on the site are somewhat misleading. The property by the water is nice. We were surprised that there is no room service. If you want clean towels, you place them in a plastic bin outside your door. Wondered if those bins are cleaned between guests. It is definitely “old Florida”. Room was musty smelling on arrival but after running a/c it improved. It’s an OK place to stay but don’t have high expectations.

Thank you for your feedback. Our pictures on our website are current and show each room. Because of Covid we had to make some changes to protect you as well as our staff. Just because we had to change our way of doing things, does not mean that we skip on cleaning and disinfecting the bins between each towel change. We are upgrading as our supplies come in and trying to make changes that will make everyone feel at home.

We stayed at RockReef as part of an adventure through the Florida Keys. The motel advertised itself as a Resort which is a stretch. It is situated on the water and has a concrete pier that allows view of a gorgeous Florida sunset. There is not much of a beach, it is a very small area of crushed shells that leads to dark water. The property has a small beautifully maintained pool.
There are a few cabins that have views of the water, but, the majority of rooms are motel rooms that are right on the road.
The room we stayed in was clean, except for some mold in the shower grout. The room had an overwhelming air freshener smell. Two air conditioners were running when we entered the room, one seemed to be pushing the scent into the air. We both had headaches after spending a few hours in the room. There is no place close to get coffee or breakfast in the morning.

We finally made it back to the Keys after being away for 3 years, and once again thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rock Reef. It started this year with Sassy greeting us upon check-in with her sweet and welcoming dog demeanor. The owner and staff are always a pleasure, and prompt in responding to any questions or needs.

We've been going to the Keys for 15 years and have only stayed at Rock Reef. The quiet, quaint and old Florida feel with the property and rooms are always a comforting delight...we've stayed in many different rooms and love them all! The private beach and beautiful Gulf bay is always enjoyed with sunsets, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. There are lots of great restaurants locally for a fun dinner and night out at the end of each day...enjoy the sunset right out your back door, or from a local restaurant.

We have yet to find anything better than Rock Reef in Key Largo!

Thank you always to Linda and her staff! Sassy the four-legged hostess is a bonus!

Dear Cole Family, Thank you so much for staying with us this year. We have missed seeing you but with Covid and a growing family we know how life goes. We appreciate your taking time to write a review for us and letting other guests know what we have to offer as well as great restaurants near by. It was fun seeing you down at the beach watching the sunset and just enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with it. Sassy sends her big smile your way. She is just a little upset that she makes so many new friends and she is so excited to see everyone come to see her every day, but just doesn't understand it when they leave! Thanks again for the great chats and the kind words that you had for our work at Rock Reef. I means a lot to know that people do notice what we have done over the years and that we are improving all the time.

We stayed here for one night on a road trip down the Keys with destination Key West. I wish we had planned to stay longer at this nice resort. Linda, the owner, was so friendly and obviously cares about making her resort comfortable and with all amenities you could want. We stayed in a nice space that had a separate bedroom with living / dining room and small kitchen with full size appliances. Our accommodation was very clean with AC on and the room cool when we arrived. The resort has a front row seat to the sunset, boat access, a small swimming beach, kayaks, and a heated swimming pool. This place has a very laid back vibe and is a great place to just relax and chill out. We live on the other side of the country but hope to come back one day for a longer stay.
