The use of the Catalina 22 for experienced sailors is an awesome deal. My sailboat is on the hard side this experience has tied me over. The cottages are older but clean with outdoor space to grill and enjoy the simple life. The staff is excellent and helpful.

The place would of been a little challenging to find but, they have great instructions to follow and Jenn, was outstanding in explaining the area, along with what they all had to offer. Very relaxing. They had several different activities to chose from. We will be definitely back!!

incredible value -- Priceless location and experience! Cabins are clean and well appointed. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but comfortable and incredibly fun. Staff is very helpful. Good restaurants nearby including walking distance. So cool to be able to paddle board/kayak to local bars/restaurants. Great experience! Oh...and my husband LOVED the sailing!!

We loved our stay at Key Lime Sailing Club. Our room was larger than expected, and the kayaks, paddleboards were in great condition. The kids were pleased to see all the snorkel gear (also excellent and clean) and even tried on a wet suit. It was very nice that we could also take them to John Pennekamp. Your staff was great. Felt like home, so much better than a hotel. Great location for driving carious places in the keys. Thanks for letting us sail! We will remember that for a lifetime. We hope to return soon!

Avoid this too good to be true trap. The ad in Sailing Magazine hooked us. We wanted a sailing fix and who could resist a sail boat with your room. We should have!

We booked a cabin on the beach for 5 days in July and only 4 days in August because the cabin we chose was fully booked except for those 4 days.

We arrived to find the window type AC unable to keep the cottage cool, leading to a sleepless night in the Florida heat of mid¬summer. The next day, we were moved to a cabin which was the largest but farthest from the water. It should be noted that cabins are NOT CLEANED at all during the entire length of your stay.

The sailboat, part of the rental package, was a 70’s Catalina 22, a great boat if maintained, but like all boats we saw had been hopelessly neglected. In fact, they were disgusting. We learned that less than half the fleet have furling head sails. After casting off for our first “Sailing Fix”, the keel winch became jammed and the first day’s sail was cut short. A different boat the next day, but the keel winch broke in a down position and the kick¬up rudder would not stay engaged in a down position. Another busted sail day, but with the promise of a fix for the next day. When the fix was not even attempted, we cut short our vacation from hell and came home a day early. Our disappointment made obvious by the lack of attention and maintenance to the fleet was prevalent and evident throughout the property.

In view of our unacceptable and unsatisfactory experience, we cancelled our August reservation and asked that our $500 deposit be returned. Since we had chosen the most popular, solidly booked cabin, their ability to re-rent it seemed quite certain. In any case, the management agreed both verbally and in writing that a refund check would be sent. But like “the check is in the mail”, it never arrived despite our repeated requests and their assurances. After 6 weeks of empty promises, we gave up. We now better understand why Key Lime discourages the use of credit cards by assessing customers a charge of $35 to use one. Having your credit card company fight for your refund increases your chance of actually receiving it
.
The lane leading into the “resort” is a graveyard of derelict boats and junky objects providing an omen of things to come. We ignored the obvious and paid for it both financially and in a vacation ruined.

If SERIOUS NEGLECT is your thing, you will love it here.

The Key Lime Sailing Club in Key Largo, Florida strives for a funky, Florida Keys experience. I asked my traveling partner if the Jungle Room where we stayed was the worst public accommodation that she ever experienced. She thought for a moment and said that it wasn't necessarily the worst (air conditioner didn't work, cramped bathroom with missing tiles in the shower stall, no convenient place to plug in the coffee pot, an elevated bed that required a leap for a short person, multiple plug-ins at an electrical outlet that gives you cause for concern, missing smoke alarm, etc.). She said that the Jungle Room wasn't necessarily the worse public accommodation in her experience, but it was down at the bottom of the list along with a 2 Star hotel in Paris that had a condom machine in the hall immediately outside her room's door and a bullet hole in the room's window facing the street. More on the Key Lime Sailing Club. It is nearly impossible to find the entrance to this facility at night. The driveway is flanked by rusting equipment and abandoned marine salvage. Without exaggeration, the entrance to the Key Lime Sailing Club gives all the appearance of entering a marine salvage yard. There are no signs on the main highway that give a hint to the entrance to the club. Continuing down the driveway you pass small cottages and a large RV. On the left is a two story building with a handwritten sign: "Office." The Office was poorly attended on a number of visits seeking assistance from the staff. The Key Lime Sailing Club offers small sailboats for instructions and sailing. One sailing instructor was unhelpful on two occasions when I indicated I needed assistance.
I am reluctant to give any business a bad review. People are trying to make a living and generally trying to do their best. The Jungle Room was a huge disappointment, but there is a so-called Main House that may have better accommodations. But on whole, my experience at the Key Lime Sailing Club was so disappointing that it only seems appropriate to advise future visitors and the management of the problems that I experienced.

First, try to find the Key Lime Sailing Club....If you are looking for the location DON'T expect a cute quaint group of Cottages with a old Key West style sign expect to look for a BOAT JUNK YARD and if you come in the dark GOOD LUCK since they move the mailbox in at night with the only address on it. Second, the accomadations WOW what can one say...an outside shower that is so scarey I would not wash my dog in it. Oh and speaking of dogs (I have two service dogs ) the advertisement states DOG FRIENDLY ~ but as soon as we arrived the management asked us to leave with YES licensed by the state insured for 1 million each service dogs. Oh and do not expect a refund after they ask you to leave (Denying a service dog is a Civil Crime of the Federal ADA laws, and a Criminal Crime under Florida State laws. Penalties can be compounded) Yes we had to call our lawyer to stay...CRAZY. A hygiene issue was in the bathroom sign posted stated not to put anything in the toilet to throw it into the waste basket...yes gross. I had to kill many a cock roaches every morning and the A/C unit barely kept the bedroom cool. please have a look at the pictures if you do not believe my words. What we liked best about this Key West Dump was that we could escape by sailing away on one of there 22 ft sailboats.

I have traveled across the country many times and like to give a chance to those owner-on-site type places as much as possible. However, this "resort" has me wanting to go with the chains from now on. It was cold in Florida the week we stayed, but, the owner and staff saw no reason to supply us with anything to offset the cold. The had a space heater the size of a toaster, a summer weight bedspread, no blanket, no nothing. Then the toilet backed up and I had to call the number taped to office door. The maintenance man told me he was surprised that our cabin's toilet overflowed, in that, it was not one of the many that did so regularly. The bathroom consisted of a refrigerator box sized shower and jammed-in toilet. We never did get to talk to owner despite asking many times before and after checkout. Take my word for it, you could go anywhere in Key Largo and get better accommodations, which we did. No refunds , no amenities. Once they got our money we were on our own. The worst vacation experience I've ever encountered.

I hate to be the odd man out, but in my opinion, the reviews I found here are WAY over rated and I just don’t get why. You read the reviews here and you think that this is the greatest place since sliced bread and that is SO NOT True. You read the other reviews and think, “Wow, this is a place I have to go to,” but that isn’t the case either. The place is nice, but nothing to rave about. We’ve lived and traveled all over the world and know better than to expect a lot, especially when a place gets so many positive reviews. Based on the TA reviews, we chose Key Lime Sailing Club to stay. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. You know the saying that if it is too good to be true, then it probably is…. We should have heeded this, but we didn’t. We spent a week here…

First off, the Keys were awesome!! We just wish we had stayed someplace else. There were no bugs or rodents in our cabin- The Dolphin Unit. This cabin was very clean and well maintained, but very small. I’d estimate the size of the Dolphin Unit to be 10 x20. It could accommodate 2 persons max. Anymore in the family and they’d be stepping all over each other. Bathroom had a shower and no tub. There is no privacy to be had, if that is what you’re looking for, and which we were looking for. In fact, before we had made our choice, we had asked Cindy which cabin offered privacy, which is why we chose the Dolphin. The Cabins are rustic duplexes. All the cabins, house and parking sit on about 1 to 2 acres. If you have dogs, there is no real place to walk them and not much space in the cabins for them. The web site says the cabins have cable, but they don’t. And regular TV reception is dependent on the weather. Not that we went for the TV, but it is nice to kick back after a busy day and just veg out sometime. Not everything on the web site is accurate, as it is not updated regularly. Staff was great and very accommodating. However, Caretaker staff and reservation staff don’t seem to talk or share emails. The day we drove down, there was a call to our house back home asking when we were going to arrive. We had sent two emails to Cindy giving her the time of arrival, but Gloria never got them.

There isn’t much of a beach-just a 10ft long sandy area. The Dolphin didn’t face the beach, but was comfortable. If luxury and privacy are what you are looking for, this is not the place for you. Compare this place to the 50’s and 60’s when families traveled to Florida and stayed in the “Florida Tropical Resort.” The place is well kept, but it is old and worn and it shows. It is not a vacation spot resort. Bring bug spray for the many mosquitoes-once you exit the cabin, you have to quickly choose what to do and where to go-car or beach before the bugs swarm you.

For scuba divers and snorkelers this would not be a good base for you. It wasn't for us. If you’re into sailing everyday then this might be place for you. The free boat with the room was a nice touch, but if you don't use it, not so much. I can’t even recommend it for families because the cabins are so small. Overall, the place was okay, but not the place for us when all we was in it for was diving. And it certainly wasn’t a gem or paradise as others have said it was. Sorry, for a difference in opinion, but that is what we thought. Would we recommend this place to others? Sorry, no.

First the good news. The location is wonderful. It is waterfront and not far from Miami. Now the bad. If the weather is poor or if there is a small craft advisory, you cannot use the sailboats. I can understand using caution, but keep in mind, you are paying a higher cost because the boats are included. The unit we stayed in was clean, but extremely dated and worn. The bathroom wallpaper was peeling off, and there was no lock on the door. The shower head was weak and water pressure was minimal. There were no lights outside at night, and it was dangerous walking in the pitch dark. The kitchen had very little supplies for cooking. The worse part of our stay was the paper thin walls that seperate the units. I could hear everything and I mean everything that was going on next door. You will not sleep well if you have neighbors that like to stay up all night and party. I was very disappointed with the accomodations. Really...what does a fresh coat of paint cost and a lock for the bathroom?
