Nestled in Key Largo, Bungalows Key Largo hotel garners acclaim for its plethora of amenities, such as outdoor showers and various excursions, despite the extra charges some guests mention. While the comfort and unique features of the rooms win praise, others express concerns regarding cleanliness and privacy. The outdoor areas, particularly showers and tubs, are often highlighted for their cleanliness. Opinions on value diverge, with a number of guests deeming the hotel overpriced, especially when considering the food and service quality. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere, enriched by live music and chic decor, is a hit, though it comes with a caveat of potential noise for some. Service experiences vary, with reports of both commendable staff attention and instances of lackluster service.

Let me start by saying the property is beautiful, including the room, landscaping, restaurants and the beach/pool area. The food quality was superior to most all inclusives, even high end ones,, and top shelf liquor was included. But the place was way overpriced for what it was, and very deceiving in that it was not really all inclusive. First of all, they had the nerve to ask for $300 extra if you arrived early. I understand not having the room ready, or having to pay a la carte for lunch or drinks, but $300 just to be on the property and have a lunch worth maybe $60 and a drink, that's insulting. Most properties are thrilled to ask you to use facilities as long as you are out of your room. And by the way, the resort had no more than 20% occupancy, so we surely did not crowd anyone. Additionally, tips were more or less demanded, and hefty tips at that. As the staff was excellent, and we did not know how they were compensated, we complied with the suggested tips, and this added about $80 per day to a base charge of over $1,000. Since occupancy was low, they only opened limited dining venues, we had very little choice, especially for the main course during dinner. And while we paid for 3 days, which would mean 9 meals at 3 meals per day, you could not have lunch your first day unless you paid the $300, and you were forced to leave before lunch the last day, unless, again, you wanted to pay $300. So, we got 8 meals when I feel we were charged for 9! Room service was not included. Many all inclusives may charge a delivery fee if you dine in your room, but here you had to pay for your food as well, even though you already paid as an "all inclusive". The wine list in the room included mostly bottles in the over $100 range, only 3 choices were below $75, and again I remind you we already paid for all drinks. The resort provides beautiful bicycles to get around, but the place was so small, there was no where to bike to! When we were there (mid January), it was too cold and windy to use the non motorized water sports, and the beach and pool were literally deserted. There was absolutely nothing to do in inclement weather, the fees at the spa were extremely high, and you could not use it unless you booked an expensive treatment. Likewise, boat trips were much higher than at other area resorts. The only activity we could partake in was yoga, and this they offered at 7AM only. Do I really want to wake up that early on vacation? There was no other activity option. We were so disappointed, and bored, we tried to check out early, but of course they would allow no refund. I see that the few other reviews posted offer similar comments, and it is hard to see how this beautiful resort can stay in business if they do not make some changes. Interestingly, they did not reach out with any requested customer survey or feedback, which you would think as a new resort they would. In fact, that was emblematic of the condescending attitude of the resort. And the few other people we spoke to while we were there all seemed to share our view. Don't go

Response from BungalowsKeyLargo, Manager at Bungalows Key Largo
Responded 5 Feb 2020
Bungalows Key Largo is unlike other high-end resorts in the area, and unlike all-inclusive resorts elsewhere in the world. Our rates are competitive with other luxury resorts in the Florida Keys, when the average cost of food and alcohol consumed daily is factored in. We have worked hard to detail our resort policies and customs that thoroughly explain the inclusions of Bungalows Key Largo, our gratuity policy, our early check-in and late check-out policies, as well as plenty of other valuable information. This information is readily available on our website and reiterated on all confirmation emails. We also have 24-hour guest services that would be more than happy to answer any further questions you may have before reserving a stay at Bungalows. Other resorts may happily welcome you to their facilities prior to check-in time, however this is because they are not all-inclusive. Our on-site food, beverages, and resort amenities are all included in your stay from our 4:00pm check-in time on your day of arrival, until our 11:00am check-out time on your day of departure…not the 9-meal program you suggested. In order to cover costs outside of that time frame, we offer options for Limited or Full Early Access as well as Limited or Full Late Access based on availability. If this is not of interest to your party, our bellmen will happily drive you anywhere within a 5-mile radius to grab lunch prior to check-in, where you struggle to find a restaurant offering comparable food and drink for just $60. We absolutely do not demand tips. As listed on our website: Bungalows Key Largo has chosen to reject standard resort protocol and not charge our guests a resort fee or pre-collect a set auto-gratuity for staff. We believe that our guests should have the freedom to decide how their gratuity dollars are spent based on the quality of service received. We present a check totaling $0.00 at the end of each meal period with a space to add gratuity. Similar to any other restaurant, we have a suggested gratuity amount at the bottom of the receipts as it is harder to calculate percentages on a $0.00 check. You are of course welcome to leave whatever amount you desire and not refer to our suggestions. We have a wide variety of activities available on site. Besides the non motorized watersports such as: kayaks, paddleboards, glass bottom kayaks, water trikes and snorkel gear, we also offer a variety of lawn games, a 24 hour fitness tiki, two pools, two hot tubs, cruiser bikes, daily live music, and a large living room with an extra large screen TV and board games. In addition, we have a variety of boat excursions (with prices starting at $30 per person), Spa treatments, and private yoga or fitness instruction, available at an additional cost and all priced competitively for the market in which we operate. Our included daily yoga classes are offered on a weekly schedule with start times ranging from 7:00am to 11:30am depending on the day and class. Again, all information that can be found on our website or by asking one of our guest service representatives. We are truly sorry to hear that you found Bungalows Key Largo to be “boring” and “disappointing”. We appreciate your feedback, as we strive to offer an extremely relaxing and tranquil experience to our guests, that will continue to bring them joy and memories long after they depart. Hopefully with this information now reiterated on yet another platform, there will be less of a possibility of confusion or disappointment for future guests.

“The Bungalows” is a beautiful oasis for couples. If you do not like who you are with, this is not for you. The bungalows are beautiful and private with outdoor showers and baths. It is a boutique hotel, so anything you need will be brought to you within minutes. The spa is a must. It was incredible. It has salt rooms, Eucalyptus room and is a true retreat.
The hotel advertises itself as an all inclusive which would make sense for the price, but it is not a true all inclusive. You must tip at meals and when people help you out, bartenders, pool service, house keeping etc. they also charge you if you arrive before 12pm or stay after 11am on your departure day. If you want to use the property before 12 on your arrival day it is $300 extra and if you want to stay after 11am it’s also $300. However, we wanted to keep the room for late check out at 3pm and that is yet another $300. Basically, it’s $900 on top of your bill if you want to utilize the day you arrive and depart. The excursions are also extra like sunset cruise and things of that nature. These excursions were well run and excellent. It is high end, accommodations are beautiful, but it is expensive. We felt it was all worth it. The water front Bungalows are gorgeous, but they are the same as the garden, so this is where you can save money if you choose. In the Garden Bungalow, when you sit on your porch, you won’t see the water. This is the only difference. The steak restaurant is the best, but they tell you you can only go to it if you stay 3 nights. We know people who stayed 2 nights and ate there. When you get to the property, talk to them and they can most likely help you. The Mexican restaurant at sunset on the water was perfect. The main pool is great early morning. By afternoon, it gets crowded so if you are looking for quiet, the Spa pool with beds is perfect. If you long for more action stay at main pool. The resort provides you with bicycles, which is so nice too. If your smoke cigars, there is a special tee pee for that. We would absolutely return The Bungalows. We felt as if we were a million miles from home.

I cannot emphasize the beauty in excellence in this resort. The staff are top notch the food and beverages were excellent and top shelf respectively and the staff was committed to making your stay fabulous.

Just a couple Of things to know the early check-in does not guarantee that your room will be ready before 4 PM but the staff will do their best to have it ready before 4 PM. The early check-in allows you access to the resort including food beverages and lounging by the pool areas. This is an additional cost of $300.

The late checkout process is also $300 to allow you to use the compound but that does not include the use of the roomAfter 11 AM. If you want to have access to your room that is an additional $100-$200 cost on top of the 300 so just beware of those things.

The final cost will be more than what you see on the website as there are resort fees taxes for the taxes etc. The same goes for any spa treatment it will be more than the price that you see as there are taxes including resort tax for the tax and a dish and only they had a 22% gratuity to any service you have in the spa. Regardless, allAll of it was fantastic and I have no regrets whatsoever.

The compound air is pristine and meticulously maintained I cannot say enough good things about this resort and I already have in mind I’ll follow up visit within the next two months.

I really don't know where to begin to describe the Bungalows and how they dialed up the perfect vacation. First of all, I never write reviews but felt compelled to share how amazing of a time we had while vacationing for a week through Easter weekend.
We arrived later than planned around midnight due to a delayed flight however that didn't diminish our sense of arrival. The bellmen took time to show us around the entire resort with lots of useful information to help us with our first day at the resort.
The rooms/bungalows are awesome! They are thoughtfully decorated with every detail taken into consideration during the design . We were located away from the beach closer to the road and never felt disturbed during our stay. We utilized the outside area often whether we were drinking coffee in the morning prior to breakfast or in the evening while enjoying a cocktail before dinner. In addition the outdoor shower was utilized often during our stay, after a long winter taking a shower outside was a welcomed change.
The restaurants and overall food and beverage experience was on par with some of the best resorts we've had the opportunity to stay at over the last few years. Whether we were lounging at the pool or in the nicest restaurant, Bogie and Bacall's, the food never disappointed. We ate at Bogie and Bacall's a couple of times however didn't take advantage of the secret menu at the bar in the restaurant because we were so happy with the other offerings.
Finally but probably the most important factor that made the Bungalows such an amazing place to vacation was the staff. We were visiting during a busy week with several staff members working doubles in order to keep things working smoothly. This didn't change the warm welcome that we were greeted with at every interaction. I wish I could remember all their names but there are too many for me to list them all. If there were two stand outs during our stay it would be our frequent server, Alain, and the female Jamaican bartender in the Tiki bar, sorry can't remember her name. The spa attendants, massage therapists, bartenders, bellmen and housekeeping staff all greeted us every day with warm welcoming smile.
Thanks again to the Bungalows for crafting the perfect vacation that we needed after not traveling for so long! In addition, every couple we met shared the same opinion of the Bungalows. We couldn't have asked for a better experience that made us never leave the resort until our departure day.

Do not hesitate in booking the Bungalows Key Largo! This resort is absolutely gorgeous! The grounds are even more amazing in person and are impeccably maintained, the service is 5 star and food was top notch! I'm a tough reviewer when it comes to these things and I know it can be difficult to pull the plug on a vacation at this price while not truly knowing what to expect but this was all WORTH IT. I would recommend reading all the FAQs on this resort in order to be prepared and know all the policies in advance. After reading a few of the negative reviews, it seems most were disappointed by things they could have educated themselves on in advance.

We booked 4 nights and rented a car from Miami to drive down to Key Largo. We fully expected to take a drive and leave the resort one day but because this is such a serene and private oasis, we didn't want to leave! This was our babymoon and it was the perfect place for it. I fully expected to RELAX and have quiet, pleasant days by the water, good food and daily naps. :) Even if the noise level is too high for you near the pool, there are many options to move and lay in other areas with a water view.

The food here was awesome! No complaints whatsoever. I was not sure what to expect because I couldn't find many photos online so I wanted to share food photos here for others who are also curious. We tried just about every restaurant and menu. The wait staff is full of recommendations to ensure you're ordering the best items on the menu! :) I enjoyed a prenatal massage at the Zen spa, highly recommend! We also did a sunset cruise on our last night which was gorgeous. The boats are magnificent. It can get a bit chilly on the waters so dress accordingly!

One of my favorite special touches was the turn down service. Every night the maids come into your room while you're at dinner and turn down the bed, make sure your fridge is full of water/sodas and leave a special treat for you!

We left the resort so happy that we booked for our babymoon here! I definitely recommend 3 to 4 nights. 4 nights gives you the reservation at Bogie and Bacall's. This gives you just enough time to try every restaurant/menu and enjoy the resort to it's full potential!

My husband found this hidden gem searching for a local place to travel for our honeymoon. He did not disappoint! We were welcomed with a smile and escorted to our cute bungalow! It was such a nice concept how the rooms were laid out with both inside and outside showers with complete privacy. My husband loved taking baths in giant tub outside looking up at the stars! We also had these cute little cruiser bikes to travel around and explore the property. If we had a critique for this it would be maybe placing those blindside mirrors on some palm trees because we had some close calls with other guests when coming around corners not being able to see them but that is minor. As for the food, simply spectacular!!! We tried every restaurant and got almost every item available to us and we were never disappointed! All of the staff was fabulous and it couldn't have been a more perfect trip! Our last day we got to experience Boogie and Becalls their Steak restaurant and man did we go out on a bang! Again all staff was great but Madelynn was an absolute gem. Every time we had her at the pool or as our server she was always so friendly and knowledgeable to answer all questions!

In regards to cleanliness the resort is spotless. We were so impressed with everything the resort did to try and make guests feel safe! We purposely stayed during the week to avoid maybe higher numbers on the weekends but we were so happy that we are already discussing celebrating our anniversary there next year!

After having to cancel two other trips planned for our 25th Anniversary because of shut downs from Covid, I luckily found The Bungalows at Key Largo and booked it at the last minute and loved every minute of it.

In one word, relaxing.

Once you check-in, you are swept away on a golf cart through the magical gates. Once inside the gates, everything changes, the clock slows, the stress fades and the fun begins.

Pros:

The grounds and landscaping are beautiful. The bungalows are spacious and comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower (who knew) and sitting on the front porch of our bungalow each night. The food is very good at all locations with a lot of choices, the steakhouse is terrific. The liquor is all top shelf and the bartenders are excellent. The watersports (kayaking, water trikes, SUP and snorkeling) are all included. We kayaked for the first time and loved it. We also did a couple of boat excursions that we paid for (there are a number of different types of boats that they have on premises) we did a sunset catamaran one evening and a 4 hour tiki pontoon boat tour that was amazing. There are 2 pools which were both very nice. And we loved having 2 bikes parked outside our bungalow to ride while we were there.

Cons:

The wait service for food is a little long because the kitchen is on the smaller side. The wine list was weak in our opinion, except at the steakhouse where you could buy wine by the bottle, luckily we brought some with us and they gave us glasses for the room. For the amount of money spent we were really hoping for better choices for the wines by the glass. Was also hoping for some lobster or crab for dinner, even if it was just at the steakhouse.

All-in-all, we’d go back in a second.

We absolutely loved this place! From the second you pull into the gates you are whisked away and instantly in vacation mode. The grounds are beautiful and the individual bungalows awesome! You truly feel like you are out of the country while still in the states. The staff, grounds, food and amenities were wonderful. We take a annual couples trip and we have traveled far and wide and we really enjoyed this place. It is all inclusive and that includes awesome food and really does include top shelf drinks. I like that you can do all the excursions right from property as they have their own boats. You don't have to leave if you don't want but if you do Key West is a 2 hour drive down the road with awesome sites. I give this property a 5 star even with a few cons. The cons is waiting and receiving a ticket after each meal so we can tip. I would rather it be handled like a cruise where we can tip at the end or more casual and not expected. We are paying premium prices for a vacation and really there should be some tips in there for the staff. The other complaint is that in room dining is a charge. Im not sure if that is because they are short on staff to deter it but when you are on a couples get-a-way you want to enjoy in room dinning and a day or 2 where you might not leave the room but that is not possible here unless you pay extra money. And the final suggestion would be to have a little more night life. The acoustic music is great but it would be nice if in the lounge area we could have a little more action if wanted. Another thing to note is this is the bay side so the beach is man made. There isn't really a place to get into the ocean for swimming. If you like the sound of waves crashing this side would not be for you. We love the ocean and getting in but we were not disappointed we could not as everything else made up for it. Other then that we will be back and we highly recommend this little slice of heaven

I am driving back from a weekend stay and felt the need to write a review immediately. I’m a previous B&B owner so I’m pretty picky when I stay anywhere. Our stay at The Bungalows was amazing! The resort is absolutely beautiful , immaculate and a perfect place to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Our bungalow 233 was located in a very private area. The room was so clean, well appointed with an outdoor shower and tub. They literally though of everything. Our room included two bikes which we used all weekend to get to the pool, activities and restaurants. The property is very well laid out but the bikes were great.
Every staff member we met couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful. The food is delicious and so plentiful. Drinks are delicious. We spent yesterday at the Zen pool in our own cabana being served drinks and lunch! Heavenly. We loved the water sports and the guys that work there are very helpful. Staff at this resort really appear to attend to the guests needs.
I really don’t understand some negative comments. I agree they should be more flexible about early check in and check out but when you book this is all clearly spelled out. If you don’t like the policy book somewhere else.
If I had one complaint it would be that the person that checked us in was very aloof. Not a great first impression, really acted like she couldn’t be bothered. I had concerns about a quiet room. It appeared we were being put close to the road and she basically ignored me. Our room had a bit of road noise outside but it’s a narrow island so hard to avoid. Once you enter your room it’s extremely quiet even out on our private side porch. Maybe the woman that checked us in was having a bad day. Not reflective of the rest of the staff. I know this resort appears pricy but the value is well worth it. Please don’t pay attention to the negative reviews. I will be back here again and again!

Dear Deb, Thank you for choosing to stay at The Bungalows Key Largo and identifying some of the key attributes of our services and amenities such as the watersports team at our coconut beach and our service at the Zen pool. We truly appreciate your gracious approach to the review process with a a critical eye to the details as well as the big picture. Thanks for your intentions and honesty, oftentimes critics seem to have ulterior agendas. Gratefully, MW

Yes everything was beautiful however, this resort is NOT all inclusive as advertised. At 10pm the last restaurant closes. At 11pm the Tiki bar closes. After that you are on your own. No more all inclusive. If you want something to eat, either you go off property or you order to your room and PAY for it. You cannot get anything past 11pm to eat or drink unless you PAY for it, NOT all inclusive. The restaurants are only open based on occupancy. This means if there’s not a lot of people then your restaurant selection is down to one maybe two, again depending on occupancy.

Also the lunch restaurants that might be open are only open until 2:30pm after that your only selection is from the tiki bar until dinner restaurants open and for those you must have a reservation.

When I’m paying over $1000 a day I would expect WAY more. I would also expect if you say that you are all inclusive to be just that, all inclusive. And again at over $1000 a day yes the property is very nice however food comes with very limited options and past 10/11pm pull out your cash because you’re on your own.

Thank you for your recent visit to Bungalows Key Largo, our adults-only, all-inclusive resort. Bungalows is an intimate and tranquil getaway. All our restaurant menus and hours are clearly listed on our website to avoid any confusion upon arrival. We also provide a welcome letter at check-in that reiterates this information. We have food and drink available as part of the all-inclusive experience from 7:00am until 11:00pm every day. The 8-hour window where most of our guests are asleep, we offer in-room dining for an additional cost. If you are looking for dining later than 11:00pm, or a bar/club that is open until the early hours of the morning, there are several local options we recommend. If you are looking to get away from stressful everyday life, and experience exquisite and diverse dining we offer, come book a stay at Bungalows Key Largo!
