In the US we have high standards of cleanliness. In some other countries the standards are not that high; Old and beat up. Didn't have clean look. Bed was fair. Toilet clean and low. Sink clean. Shower not clean. While taking shower, be prepared to move quickly because temperature changes. Air condition not real cool but not miserable. The towels were white and smelled clean. Staff was nice. So if you're on a budget you can stay here for 4 days for $400.00 or at a motel down the road for 2 days for $400.00. Just depends on what your standards are.
Where do I start. Although the location is obviously fabulous, and it really could be a nice little place if they would bother to make updates and give it some TLC, in the condition it is in now, there is nothing else about this "motel" I would recommend unless as a very last resort. A friend and I haven't seen each other in a long time, and since we both had pandemic related travel vouchers that were about to expire, and both LOVE the ocean, I searched and searched for a beach front location in Florida for us to meet up for a few days. Unfortunately, it seemed like before I could complete a booking, it was no longer available. Literally, everything for the days we had available to go were booked! The only place left (which should have been a red flag) was the LaTerrace Oceanfront Hotel. First, and foremost, this is NOT a HOTEL is is 100% a MOTEL. I arrived 6 hours before my friend, and upon my arrival, I stepped into the "lobby" which is literally no bigger than a very small coat closet located in the alley. Positive aspect here is check in was fast. Then I proceeded to walk around the building, drag my suitcase up 17 stairs (no one to help with luggage), to find the room with the door not even closed. I entered, to a smell I am not sure of (hopefully some odd cleaning product), and a room straight out of 1950. The curtains were yellow, the stove definitely predated this decade, and there was a bent curtain rod with a beat up shower curtain hung up to cover a circuit breaker box. The bathroom was super small, with only a pedestal sink and a very old shower. Bedspreads were as thin as paper towels and there was one lamp for the whole room. There is no safe for valuables, and I had to slam the door to ensure it remained closed. "Lobby" is only open from 11 am - 6:00 pm. No ice machine or other amenities either. Again, my friend and I wanted this to be a relaxing beach trip, and as it is oceanfront, making the best of it was the only option. I cleaned the room with my own Lysol wipes and plugged in a Glade air freshener. I went and bought my own bag of ice, and then when I returned, I met some very nice people next door, and spent time with them outside on the terrace while I awaited my friend's arrival. My friend and I spent the next day on the terrace because it was too windy to go down by the sand, and again - no safe to keep valuables in, thus we were hesitant to go far. But the best was yet to come. First, there was a sign on the bathroom wall that read (word for word): "Please do not use towels for the removal of make-up, mascara, hair dye, blood, food grease, etc. Do not use them to wipe the table or wash dishes. For your convenience we put a box of tissues in every room. Leaving towels with any kind of stains will incur $15/each towel charge. Thank you for your cooperation". SERIOUSLY! One pays $169.00 for an outdated, rundown motel, and they are going to tell you how to use the towels? The tissues for the record were a box of generic, extremely thin, Kleenex. No paper towels. So you can't cut yourself shaving, wash your face if you wear makeup, or wipe off a counter? And trust me, the towels were not worth $15! Second, as I was taking a shower, the large, metal, square shower head fell off and cracked me in the head. Kudos to the "maintenance man" for coming pretty quickly to put in another, but it never should have happened. This is how bad the condition of this place is. What did I get for this particular incident; $50.00 off the stay. That is it. So, although it ist a fabulous location - and the view is phenomenal, I don't think it justifies allowing your establishment to become so run down and in disrepair. I am serious, unless it is your ONLY option - look elsewhere.…
Loved the view and location. Owners and people running business were kind and helpful. Room #5 needed a new mattress (closest to the window) badly. Springs are very worn. They pop when moving on bed and the mattress dips where your back is. After walking all day all you want is a comfortable bed to sleep in. Air worked great, good shower pressure, great wi-fi. Clientele consisted of a lot of smokers... being a non-smoker I was naïve to think differently of a motel like this. Not so wonderful to watch the sunrise with the aroma of smoke... definitely a smokers heaven on the other hand. Would come back if the mattresses are replaced.
We had such a great stay here, that (even though I NEVER write reviews) I felt a NEED to let everyone know about this place. Lets clarify that this is a budget option, and great on the wallet. The accommodations themselves do not exceed the price, but the overall experience sure did! TOP PRO: LOCATION is just amazing. Right near ACTION, beach view from most rooms, and a PATIO OVERLOOKING THE OCEAN right outside your door! Parking availability is good, the staff was super easy to deal with. The place was clean, however the cleaning agent smell was a bit strong upon arrival. They provided extra beach towels and beach chairs, and (for a small fee) late checkout really made our last day memorable chilling at the beach until our flight!
Place is in a GREAT location! Heart of the boardwalk with a bird's eye view of everything. Room was clean but needs updating, starting with new mattresses. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable. Parking is convenient right behind the building.
