This was our second time staying at the hotel, though the first time had been 6 years ago. This time our stay was short, only 2 nights. The main con of this hotel is the location, there aren't restaurants, shops, or anything worth visiting within walking distance. It is close to the airport and cruise port though. So you do have to spend you entire time onsite unless you rent a car. We actually had a car rental this time, but parking was very pricey, $40/night plus tax. The hotel itself is wonderful. There are many so many different activities going on at the hotel. There are free cookies and lemonade at 2PM, and in the evening they give out free food and have activities in the lobby. The resort fee includes two beach chairs, and the beach is great. We also played sand volleyball. There are many sports activities included - basketball, tennis, non-motorized watersports like kayak, etc. A lot of different kids activities planned throughout the day too. Trying to get a pool chair while there was tough though. We stayed Dec 25-27 during peak season.

I have stayed at MHB many times over the years since about 1995. I am a Lifetime Titanium member with Marriott Bonvoy. It has been my most favorite property in the US.
Lately I have noticed many reviews (for this hotel) from first time contributors who are singling out employees on the beach at this property. It is odd that they are all first time contributors and they never mention anything else but the beach staff. I have been on TA for many years and this is my recent review.
This review is for our stay over the Christmas holidays in December 2021 for 7 nights and the stay was for hubby and myself. I asked for and received the room that I wanted on the 14th floor…an oceanfront King bed room with balcony (thanks to Ana at the front desk who was extremely helpful) I don’t expect upgrades at this time of year as the hotel is quite heavily booked so I book the room category that I want We arrived for check in early and had to wait 5 hours for the room. We arrived on a very busy day and it was understandable.
As usual the room was spotless and exactly what we wanted for oceanfront as we love to sit out in late afternoon and watch for manatees. The oceanfront rooms have the very best views including the beach, cruise ships entering/exiting the harbor, low flying pelicans….and the occasional passing manatee.
We prefer to sit in the pool area rather than the beach because hubby needs to stay in the shade. The pool area, while beautiful, has become quite crowded over the years and we can’t enjoy it like we used to. If you arrive later than 8:30 or so you will have a tough time finding available chairs. This problem is compounded by the fact that the hotel has placed multiple covered cabanas and double loungers in all of the front sections. These are income generating items for the hotel. Additionally, the pool is used by Beach Club members so they are looking for seats as well. As a result, there are too many people looking for regular loungers. We spent some time every day at the pool and it always was a problem to get 2 chairs together. We had to get help to get an umbrella and the staff was very helpful. For the last few days, we were jammed in the back rows and my chair was actually right next to the bushes and practically on top of the speaker for the piped in music. The music is annoying especially when you have to sit right next to a speaker. My hubby is a disabled vet and he uses bilateral hearing aids. The pool music is so disruptive for a hearing-impaired person that it requires turning the hearing aids off…this means that person will not be hearing much while out there.
We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel each day and the buffet and staff are terrific in that area. Starbucks is also great and quite popular at this hotel.
I am not sure if I will return because of the pool issues described, but if I do, I certainly hope that the hotel can make some changes in the pool area.

We planned on a long-term stay of 30 nights (work related) and had assistance from one of the nicest, kindest, most helpful hotel managers (names Niki) I have ever dealt with in my travels. I am Ambassador level with Marriott and Diamond with Hilton so I certainly have experience with hotels. My family of 4 only stayed a few nights because we had a chance to get a room in another Ft. Lauderdale, Bonvoy hotel that had a kitchen and washer/dryer. The rooms at Marriott Harbor were a bit small but the hotel, grounds, location, and service here was really top notch. I look forward to coming back for a short beach vacation after COVID as this hotel had a vacation feel to it. Anyway, great job by all.

Room was not ready until after 5pm, people reserving chairs at 8am to never show, pool closed 2 days in a row for 'cleaning', entire beach view and breeze blocked by cabanas that range in price from an additional $150-$250/day depending on the Federal reserve or some inexplicable rule, Rule for using the cabanas not enforced. Wait staff only able to bring $5 water bottles to you and NO free tap water available. Drinks were $15-$20 each??? not a bottle, just 1 drink. When asked about dinner reservations a WEEK in advance, concierge only checked open table - has NO contacts in town? Isn't that a concierge's job?? I think the owner and his family need to stay at the resort for a weekend to see what $500/night gets them. The PEOPLE who work there are kind, cheerful, want to be helpful, but have not been given appropriate training or resources to do their job.

You will like this hotel if you enjoy paying for the same thing 3 times. With rates of $600+ per night or 60,000 points you are already paying for the beautiful beach and pool as the rooms are very basic. But to actually use the beach there is an additional $40 per day mandatory resort fee. For that you get a chair but have to wear a wrist band and sign in and be escorted to the chair like it’s gold. Then if you want to use the umbrella that it sitting at the chair it is an additional $20 per day. When I said I did not want the umbrella they literally took it and moved it even though there were very few people at the beach. The other “benefits” for the $40 daily fee include free internet which I already get as a bonvoy ambassador member and free use of non motorized equipment. Except during my 5 day stay the equipment was never made available (there was high wind on 2 days but the other days were just overcast and cold with some rain so kayak or paddle board would have been fine to use). Then comes the free breakfast for elite members except its $10 per room plus tax and tip per day if you want any hot items from the buffet. They also give you 1 drink coupon per person for the entire stay not per day (beer or wine only). I misplaced mine and they refused to replace it. Seriously, Did I mention I stay at Marriotts over 100 nights per year. Hyatt does not charge resort fees for elite members nor anyone using points for a stay. I will never stay at another Marriott property with a resort fee and urge all others to vote with your feet and stay elsewhere until this ridiculous policy is changed.

Dear mollymach, First and foremost, thank you for being a loyal Marriott Bonvoy Elite member and for choosing to stay at our resort. We do regret if you were disappointed to find a Resort Fee charged at our property and that the benefits provided did not enhance your stay as intended. While we can not change the weather that may have limited the use of some of the perks, there are still many others such as our spa credit, fitness classes, court use, and access to some pretty fun beach games that we hope you had a chance to explore. Thank you for your feedback and we can assure you we take your comments to heart. We would love to welcome you back should you return to the area. Any chance we have to elevate your stay to the five-star experience you deserve is welcome. Charles Albanos Resident Manager

The hotel grounds are beautiful and the pool is awesome. The bad review is based on the room. We stayed in room 1233 for 5 nights. Its the wind drift suite. It’s a nice size and decently decorated. Not so modern but really it was fine. The major issue comes in regards to the bathroom, specifically the door. Its a barn door type of closure which looks nice but the door over closes and there is a slot for your fingers but they get caught easily. My 6yr old son had his fingers caught and he screamed and cried on our 1st day here. I checked it out myself and sure enough my fingers got wedged and almost broken. I went to the front desk to mention it and was told engineering would take a look. We spent the day at the pool and came back and now my son is trapped in the bathroom because the door overclosed and you cant access the handle. How is this possible? I go check the door again and i notice nothing has been done to correct the situation and now i notice ANTS all over the shower area. I once again speak to someone at the front and they tell me the door is missing a “stopper” and they are aware but for my inconvenience they will give me $100 credit🤦‍♂️. I explained i have small kids and they keep getting trapped in the bathroom and im paying roughly $600 a night for the suite and he tells me it will be escalated to the proper person. Its now day 5 and nothing has been done. No repair- no offer to switch rooms. Nothing! And there is still ANTS in the bathroom. Oh yea and housekeeping has rolled up used wet towels and put them back under the sink for reuse. Thanks! We are considering extending our trip but we will be switching to a different hotel for the remainder!

We stayed here for a conference right before COVID hit. The rooms were fine — standard moderate chain hotel. Service was also typical. We didn’t have any specific needs and people seemed friendly and efficient. The weather was cold and windy when we were there. Fortunately the resort fee was optional with the conference but if we’d had to have paid it we would have been upset because we definitely didn’t use any of the resort fee items. The hotel restaurants are fine and other restaurants are an Uber away. (We had a rental car.) There wasn’t much to do in the area and if we didn’t have friends and relatives wintering nearby, we would have been really bored.

There was also a fire when we were there with an evacuation in the early hours of the morning. Fortunately no injuries and the hotel gave us extra points (though who knows if we’ll ever be able to use them).

The rooms did have reasonable electrical plug access for charging devices, which is always a plus!

Overall, this was a reasonable hotel but we wouldn’t return except for another meeting.

Overall, it's a nice hotel. There are a few suggestions as guests do pay a lot to stay here and it would make it more enjoyable for all.

It's very annoying that the pool chairs are taken by 9am with towels. It becomes such a game every day. There must be a better way to reserve chairs based on room number and # of occupants per room (without adding fees to an already expensive hotel).

We come to your hotel as you are one of few right on the beach. However, the cabanas that are placed right at the shore completely defeat the purpose of sitting on the beach. They completely block the view of the ocean for the guests in the lounge chairs behind them. And if you have young children, you have to stand at the shore in order to see them, and then you can't even see your stuff at your lounge chair. Not relaxing at all. We already pay for 2 lounge chairs per day, I do not want to pay another $150 to sit at a cabana. Put the cabanas on each side of your property line and let the lounge chairs be able to see down the middle.

There are now 2 volleyball nets - great! Except there was only one ball total and no one on the staff seemed to know or care to find a second one. So only one group could play at a time.

The rooms on the 2nd floor are noisy - mechanical noises come from below the rooms all day long.

Keep the pool servers as is - they are terrific and attentive. It's easy to get food and drinks.

Absolutely amazing property on this gorgeous stretch of beach in Fort Lauderdale
Rooms were beautiful big and clean
Food is extremely expensive but the quality is excellent
The staff will go out of their way to help which is amazing
We packed and completely forgot to bring a beach bag
I looked in the shops but refused to pay $50 for a tiny beach bag. I went to the front desk to ask if they had a promotional bag or anything I could use and got a wonderful woman Tishayla Hinsey that not only gave me one but two beach bags! The staff is truly what makes this resort remarkable.

My only complaint and it is no fault of the hotel is that there was a group of about 100 foreigners that were extremely loud screaming blaring their own music at the pool.

Stayed at this hotel for the tartuga festival for one night. Although the grounds are beautiful everything else about this hotel was just subpar particularly the front desk staff. We are ambassador level marriott members (mentioned to emphasize that we travel often and stay at many many marriott properties). We arrived early and purchased an ocean front room on an upper floor. We were told the room was being cleaned and would be ready shortly. Several hours later (mind you we are waiting for our room to be ready to change and head out to the concert). Still not ready. Told they would send someone right away and would be done in next 30 ish. Again another 2 hours later and still not ready. They explain the bottom floors are cleaned first we could move to a low floor (we wanted the view that’s why we stayed at this particular hotel). Again another long wait and then finally moved to a mid level floor when we entered the room. We looked at a concrete wall. Yes you could see the ocean could not sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. Went back down to the desk requested a change moved to an even lower floor and this room only half the balcony was blocked by solid concrete. And because we were now on a lower floor the very loud air conditioning unit just one floor down was so loud you wouldn’t enjoy the serenity of the ocean or the fresh air. I am the mother of 3 we are used to loud but this was obsurd. But we were not moving again Oh and they turned off the keys and had to go several times to front desk wait for security etc. etc. While we understand changing due COVID and short staffing issues but why not just explain that instead of having us wait and wait and wait. We would have just left and come back later but the “it will be ready in just a few” kept us at the hotel instead of the festival. When we described our experience through the marriott chat with the front desk we were given the “oh too bad” attitude. The staff was unsympathetic. This was by far the most inconvenient complete disregard for their guest experience we have had since the start of COVID and that is saying alot. No need to go into the overpriced food and long (almost 2 hour) wait for room service since they closed the restaurant before the festival let out (which was around 9:45) that is standard inconvenience-stuff and kinda expected.

There are plenty of other hotels in the area that are better locations and offer better costumer service. . Stay at the W or one of the boutique hotels. Don’t waste your money.

Beach chair reservations are managed by a separate company. Specific chairs and cabanas can be reserved well in advance. Prices are relatively high with out some discounts based on Marriott member level. Ask at front desk. Pool chairs vary and the staff discourages “saving” chairs. Best ask at the entrance to pool area on first day to get current rules. Pool cabanas are purchased and therefore reserved. Busy time, especially weekends warrant reservations. Have a great stay!
