This hotel is round the bay and the majority of rooms have a great view out. The rooms are a bit dated (mainly the bathroom) but are clean and tidy. The view on the balcony was the money shot though. We found the accommodation really quiet and we slept really well here. Wifi was good by the pool but a bit patchy in the rooms. Breakfast was normal Greek fayre - Bread, cheese, ham, eggs, greek yogurt. We found it fine and fresh. Recommended to go and pick up and eat on your balcony as otherwise you were surrounded by wasps down at the pool area. Staff were very friendly and helpful - helped us organise a car to explore the island. We only had one for a day as its only a tiny island. We mainly went to the beaches by taxi - Filiatro and Sarakiniko. Our favourite was probably Filiatro with the lovely taverna Kirki there. Although Sarakiniko has a nice Kiosk that you can get food and drinks from.

By looking at the pictures, it gives you the impression of high class hotel. Unfortunately, this is far from reality. Breakfast was poor. Extra charges were applied for a small bottle of water with the coffee or a cold coffee instead of filter coffee, or a juice that should be part of a standard breakfast. Bed mattresses were not comfortable, sheets were too small. No complaints about room cleaning but the staff at the pool bar preparing the breakfast were barely wearing a face mask. That makes me wonder if they followed covid rules as they should. However, one of the few positive things of this hotel is the view at Vathi' bay.

Situated on the quieter end of the harbour and nearer to its intimate family beach. Hotel Captain Yannis is a lovely 10 -15 minute walk from the centre of Vathy. Rooms are clean, wifi is variable, breakfast is adequate (and we shared it with the wasps) , pool is clean and deep. The location is stunning but what sets this hotel apart are the staff who are so friendly and will do anything for you. Stay with Stefanos and his team and you will have a great holiday. Oh and they've got terrapins!

This place was recommended by my mother who had visited for the last 26 years. My husband and I joined her on holiday with our 2 kids. We rented a house in Vathy but the kids like a pool so I took the 10 minute stroll along the road. Positives - very nice pool with high quality loungers available for non residents to hire. That is all!!! The negatives - 7 euros per person. This is for lounger and use of the pool with a “free” drink. No shade!!!! I don’t know how anyone could use this for the day without shelter with temps in mid to high 30’s The owner was very uptight and unfriendly, harping in about tickets for loungers... not typical of Greek hospitality Residents had all the shaded areas. I saw a lady move her bed to under a tree and the guy was out like a shot to tell her to move it as he needs passage! He complained he never had enough beds one day so when we arrived the next day my husband paid for 3 of us £21 euro! And my son just played in pool (never uses a lounger, he’s 9!) Owner straight over saying he must pay whether he lies on bed or not! He said “you don’t go to cinema as a 4 and only pay for 3!) Needless to say, I voted with my feet and my wallet.

Just spent a week at the Captain Yiannis in a Junior Suite. Very well appointed room, clean and a very comfortable bed. Looked like it had been totally refurbished in recent years. Superb views across the bay. Situated in a quiet area and about a ten minute flat walk into Vathi. Breakfast fairly basic, but ample. The pool is a bonus as not many places have them on Ithaca . Definitely recommended. There is a beach within walking distance. The staff very helpful.

Room Tip: The hotel rooms are set behind in an elevated position. These probably have even better views....

Right good things first, hotels position is good ,about a 10 minute walk into Vathy and there is a good selection of bars and couple of tavernas on the way. Room i stayed in was very comfortable and contemporary. It had free AC and was clean. I had no problems with amount of time cleaners came, towels, and bins etc. Staff are great and really helpfully. Pool area and bar are very nice (but oddly quiet during my stay) and also where you have breakfast, over looking the bay. Right bad things..... breakfast, it was the same everyday and i mean the same, i got sick of little Frankfurt sausages, egg and tomatoes or Greek yogurt and (in hotel grounds were fig trees covered in gorgeous fruit!) tinned peaches......and iffy tea and or coffee..... view was good though. Next my terrace outside my room, although it had great view it was very exposed to everybody coming and from the hotel. Also hotel has a small pond with terrapins in it ,this is a mozzie factory and makes sitting on terrace at dust or later unless soaked in DET ,not a good idea.... 13 plus bites on first night and it was not just cos i have tasty English blood ,Dutch couple next door got bitten to pieces too. The price of drinks at bar was high but bar snacks were good and not expensive. It sounds like i had bad stay, but i didn't really , just a few things that could be easily be rectified to turn it into a excellent hotel. Ithaca is a great island, drinks and food a little on pricey side ,also beaches are all pebble and some at top of island have fresh water springs coming up in them and therefore can be a bit on the cold side for the Ionian.

There are too many things I would like to say. Some of them: - Terrible breakfast - The WiFi was weak and in some cases absent - Terribly expensive for the services offered - There were no clean towels every day - Ants in the room - We could not lock our room - The air-condition was shouting like crazy. It is definitely not a four stars hotel.

My wife and I travelled to the beautiful island of Ithaca and stayed at the Captain Yiannis Hotel for my daughters wedding. The wedding took place at the quaint chapel within the grounds of the hotel. Katrina and Stefanos were fantastic in making it an unbelievable occasion along with the caterers, Florists etc. Our room had a very large balcony with lovely views. The room was roomy and comfortable and the hotel is in a wonderful location. After the wedding we had a very relaxing holiday. In fact the 12 nights we spent at the Captain Yiannis were almost perfect! If you fancy staying in Ithaca then I would definitely recommend this hotel.
