We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Calypso apartments, the view overlooking Vathy is spectacular, the room is comfortable with mini fridge. Gerry is a lovely host and looks after the property, all the staff are friendly and Maria was especially helpful with providing lots of local information, we liked the island so much we extended our stay and will be back. (Other room types available for families)

My husband and I stayed at Calypso Apartments and we loved it... Reasonable sized room with a veranda overlooking the view of the town (please refer to the attached photo). The room we stayed in had a fridge and access to a small kitchen area shared by 2 other rooms. The town where the restaurants and supermarkets are is within walking distance uphill - 1.5km away. We walked to the town & then got a taxi back for €5.00. Friendly & family run business - Nordas the owner’s son helped us with trying to get a rental vehicle. The owner was very nice - Gerasimo dropped us off to the nearby beach so we didn’t have to get a taxi. And Angelina washed our clothes when we arrived.

Amazing appartments in the capital of Ithaca! Very reasonable prices! The personnel was extremely friendly and helped us with any question/need we had! The owner Mr. Makis offered to get us with his car from the port and during our stay he made us feel like home! By far the best appartment and hospitality we have rent sofar! Would definitely recommend it!

For those who are not into reading long reviews: 1) You need some sort of transport (car/scooter) to stay here as it is part way up a mountain 2) It is worth staying here just for the view 3) The owner is lovely 4) The rooms are clean and comfortable Ithaki is a small island and Vathy is the capital/biggest place, although not exactly a big place by any standard. It is village like. In my opinion Vathy is the best place to stay, as it is just the right size, and has the necessary amenities close at hand (supermarket, restaurants, coffee shops, banks etc.). It is also a pretty place. As for the hotel it is situated probably a 3 min drive from the centre of Vathy. I would not recommend walking or cycling to and from this hotel as the mountain road is quite steep, some form of transport is required. There is actually a car rental place in Vathy should you need it. To be honest if you really want to have a look around the island or visit the multitude of beaches it has to offer you really do need transport of your own, and that is regardless of where you stay, as the whole island is very mountainous. On entering the hotel driveway which sweeps round in a curve to the graveled car park (plenty of space for all guests I would say) you will get a glimpse of the view down to Vathy, and it really is stunning. I suspect partly due to the steep mountain I can only describe the view as feeling close, but high above. Almost like a view from a helicopter I suppose. The room we stayed in was large, spacious and clean with a large balcony overlooking Vathy. The bathroom was also pretty big. There were spare blankets in the wardrobe, a hairdryer, and the double bed was roomy and comfortable. The owner is lovely and constantly smiling. Answered all our questions and told us local places to eat/visit. Really lovely guy. If I was going to visit Ithaki again I would stay in this exact same hotel, mainly because of the view. My description and picture don't do it justice believe me. There are hotels in the centre of Vathy that are more expensive and potentially offer a more modern look or better amenities, but nothing can replace that view! If you have a car the distance down to Vathy is negligable, and not worth thinking about. Ithaki in general is also amazing. I thoroughly recommend both this hotel and Ithaki.

It's worth staying here just for the view, day and night, it is absolutely awesome! Friendly welcome with some usual tips on the local area. We booked months in advance and only paid 36 euros per night for September, so great for the price ...bathroom very compact but nice balcony (room 4). Signposting a bit shabby, when you come into Vathy, follow the road round the waters edge and look for the anchor on the left hand side, take the next right passed a council looking building up the hill. Fab place, look up at it from the port at night all lit up in blue.

We stayed 4 nights for 60€ per night. The room has great view. Small balcony, small room and no soundproof. You could hear everything from nearby rooms. It was clean and there is plenty of parking space for car / motorbike which is important when staying at Vathy, where everything is congested. Given the above I would say that 60€ per night is somewhat overpriced and I would give 3/5 stars. However the owner / manager named Gerasimos is totally unprofessional. He overbooked our last night stay, and at the end we had to change hotel. First he offered us to stay inside his house sofita (together with him!!! Omg) for the price of 30€! Not even for free... I repeat, he dared to offer us space inside his house for the price of 30€. Unbelievable. When we found a new hotel I informed him that he should pay for the room. From that point and on he became unable to communicate in a humanly reasonable manner. Totally unprofessional. At the end he offered us 20€... I cannot believe it even now (with peace of mind) that I am writing these lines. I encourage everyone not to stay at this hotel. Your money worth to end to somebody else's pocket. Thank you, Christos Chalkiopoulos Greece
