We had an awesome experience at Hotel Familia. Great hosts, delicious breakfast, atmospheric rooms and a very luxurious feel. The hotel is located close to the centre of Vathi, so it is very easy to go out for shopping and food and drinks. The island is stunning and hotel familia is a great place to experience it!
Ithaki is a special place for obvious reasons but people like Cristina and Eleni make it all the much more special through businesses like this one. The hotel building may not be on the water or facing the bay, but the building itself is a perfectly-preserved piece of history and the rooms are kept immaculately. We stayed in the room with the little balcony which had a gorgeous garden and a full door screen to be able to keep the door open even overnight. It is also right in the middle of the restaurants, bars, shops and cafes that make Vathy a special little port. But what I will remember most is the warm hospitality of the women who run the hotel. From Cristina’s conversations at breakfast to Eleni’s helpful attitude with anything, you couldn’t ask for better stewards to your time in Ithaki. I hope we can return someday. …
There are some greek words like "meraki" which is almost impossible to translate in other languages. The people who run the Hotel Familia have definitely put tons of "meraki" so you feel that you never left your own home. You will experience amazing and original greek hospitality. The rooms have an amazing architecture (it used to be an old oil mill), the breakfast is amazing, full of local hand made delights and the location is perfect since it is next to everything you will need. Pro tip; Ask Makis to give you advice on where to go for dinner, he is the best
Loved our stay at Hotel Familia. Building is full of character and family run. Location couldn't be better and rooms very comfortable. The highlight was the breakfasts though which the took great pride in with different home made things to try every day... all of which were incredibly delicious.
We went after consuilting the Tripad page and weren't disappointed! We were giving one of the gorgeous rooms, the hotel is extremely tidy and well-disinfected. The staff is extremely friendly. The owner lived in South Africa so she speaks perfect English!
A simply stunning hotel run by very hospitable people making their guests feel like at home! I’m sat here in 2020 thinking where my best stay has been of 2019 and I cannot for the life of me think of a better hotel! The hotel is situated in the centre of Vathy town right next to a series of supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops and a few minutes walk from the main square! The room that we stayed in was on the ground floor and it was not only massive, but was impeccably decorated in a way that married the modern element with the traditional architecture of the building. The bed was a double (if not king) metal bed with plush pillows and a medium/firm mattress, exactly the way we like it! The bathroom had a very nice walk in shower and all the amenities! The centrepiece, however, was the breakfast area / hotel lounge for many reasons. First of all, the breakfast that was served on a daily basis was served there by one of the owners. We found out relatively quickly that the hotel has signed up to a scheme that promotes traditional Greek food for people to taste, so imagine starting your day with warm spinach pie, cheese pie, cakes and other Greek delicacies! The second reason was that breakfast was served on a long table, which meant that all guests in the hotel came together and had to interact! This made us get to know some interesting people. One day the weather was so nice that we went outside to have our breakfast and we felt slightly bad for it! But the sun quickly made us forget all about it! All in all, this is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. The owners take great care of it and its guests and they are always willing to greet you with a smile and answer all your queries!…
A stunning boutique Greek island hotel. Everyone says so and they aren’t wrong. Top class welcome with coffee and cake. Old building with modern room and bathroom. Super high ceiling with stylish room features. Very comfortable. Mostly booked out so unfortunately only got 2 nights. Manageress who should give lessons on how to welcome and support guests. Super plentiful genuine best greek breakfast until 11 + so plenty of time to get a swim in first. A lovely stay. Familia quality and service should divide and multiply everywhere.
My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a few nights "mini moon" after our wedding in Kefalonia and it was such a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The room was lovely and spacious, the staff were friendly and very helpful, even to the point when we forgot an inexpensive item they sent it the UK and wouldn't take payment for postage. The complimentary prosecco on our first night was also a lovely touch. The highlight of our stay has to be the homemade breakfast every morning... absolutely delicious!
My sister and I had a one night stay in this delightful hotel in the centre of Vathy. The hotel was lovely, lots of character using parts of the old building tastefully mixed with more modern features. Lovely twin room, very comfortable beds, nice linen and towels along with good quality complimentary toiletries. The staff and owners were very helpful, friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was delicious! I can see a visit to Ithaca with a stay in this hotel becoming a feature of our annual holiday on Kefalonia.... I couldn’t fault it in any way and highly recommend a stay at Hotel Familia
Set just behind the waterfront, this wonderful building started life as an olive press until the present owners rebuilt it into a small luxurious hotel. The bones of the industrial building are there for all to see in this fascinating and beautiful conversion. The bedrooms are large and spacious, the beds and linens are comfortable, and the welcome from the family and staff extremely warm. Breakfast selection is laid out in the dining area and one then takes it into the courtyard. Christine bakes fresh pastries and pies each day, and tries always to offer something different. However we enjoyed her spinach pie so much that she made sure there was some for us the next day. Christina was also full of helpful suggestions of where to go and what to see. When our friend left behind his jacket, it was quickly returned to them in France. I am so delighted to recommend this hotel to all, and hope there are vacancies when I return. …
