I love old hotels. We came into this place for the Yale Graduation and I felt I was on the set for Eugene O'Neil's play "Hughie." It also reminded me a bit of my stays at the wonderfully eccentric Chelsea Hotel in NYC. The trappings are old school, there is an antique elevator--with a crank--the desk clerks are from central...

This hotel is very old and quaint. The smell is odd, the rooms are old school, the radiators make quirky sounds all night, the elevator is scary, the painting is peeling off, and the wireless is unreliable. BUT: the staff is very friendly, perdsonable, and forthcoming (even talkative) (and so are some of the permanent tenants of the hotel) and...

We loved this place. However, it may not be for everyone. If you want a sterile, impersonal chain go stay at the Marriott. This place has all the charm of a great lady. The hotel is was built in 1894 (?) and though she shows her age she is very pleasant to stay in. The elevator is the oldest operating...

The Duncan Hotel is not for everyone. It is old (well over 100 years); it has, no doubt, seen better days. It is definitely in need of some TLC, a bit of paint, some new furniture, better lighting, a general sprucing up. On the other hand, it is not dirty, despite what some reviewers claim, and the management and staff...

This hotel is quaint & very clean. Don't expect all the frills of newer hotels, but the staff at the hotel are very accommodating. The best part is that it's one half a block from Yale, so you can walk everywhere.

I know what I love (and I know what I hate...) I love old hotels that pre-date the cookie cutter sameness of 90% of today's lodging options. Take ANY of the major brand mass market hotels that dot the National map - you know the chains, I'm not going to name them here - they are literally everywhere you want...

I had a conference at Yale and discovered when I got there that they had mixed up with my arrival date and I had no place to stay. I called Hotel Duncan and was very grateful that they had a room available for the night. It's an historic building; I had a room at the top floor. It was quite...

Came to New Haven for a weekend on my own and didn't want to spend too much money. It is not luxury by any means. It's an extremely old hotel that hasn't been renovated in many years, but this adds to it's charm. You have to be willing to stay in a place with little/no AC, and few amenities. However,...

This hotel was conveniently in the center of New Haven. The room was comfortable, but old (and remember to bring your own toiletries, as none are provided). The internet is pretty poor, but there are many coffee shops nearby.

This hotel has good reviews and my interaction with the staff was very positive. The halls, rooms and public spaces are very old, dark, and smell very badly of cigarette smoke. I did not feel safe there and chose to move hotels. While the location was ideal for me the smell of smoke, the very old bed and dingy bathroom...
