Stayed two nights. Upon checking in there was only 2 bath towels and one hand towel/washcloth. Room was acceptable could have been cleaner. But I was fine with all that. The biggest issue is there is no way to close the room doors without slamming them because when they met the doorframe they wouldn't close without a heavy slam. So I heard this all night long. Also the clientele staying here is questionable, a little seedy. The second night they were partying in the rooms going between then loudly talking. I guess for the price paid it's acceptable but I did not get a good nights sleep the second night due to the doors slamming. Fix your doors so they close easily. No room service the second day even though I requested it.

Dear septaleon, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. While I am disappointed to hear that your stay was not entirely satisfactory, I appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the shortage of towels and any cleanliness issues. Please know that we are actively addressing these concerns to ensure a more consistent level of service. I am aware that the doors to some of our rooms can be difficult to close without slamming. This is due to the age of the property and the fact that the doors are not self-closing. We are working on a plan to replace the doors in the near future, but in the meantime, we will be providing guests with door stops to help prevent the doors from slamming. Lastly, we apologize for the noise disturbance caused by other guests and will take steps to address this issue as well. Your feedback is invaluable, and we appreciate your patience as we work to make the necessary improvements. We hope you may consider giving us another chance in the future to provide you with a more enjoyable stay. Warm Regards, Sid Patel GM

We stayed here one night. Room was spacious and looks to have been recently renovated with new carpets, fresh paint and crown moulding. Room had fridge, microwave and flat screen tv. Wifi was good. No closet only a closet rack in the room itself. Bed was a little soft for my liking but acceptable. Small sink area outside of bathroom in main room. Our room was near the front so we could hear the traffic but it did not bother us. Breakfast was minimal - we ate at the Dunkin Donuts that is 20 yards from the hotel door. Steps into the hotel and did not see an elevator. We walked down to the Manor Inn where we had a nice dinner.

Reasonably priced and right off the highway. Friendly night clerk. Clean room with comfortable bed. Microwave, mini fridge, 42" TV and plenty of storage for suitcases etc.
All in all a a fair deal at a fair price though I wouldn't come for the view.

The place is a dump. I walked in and there was a huge box fan in the lobby blowing hot air everywhere. The mattresses in the room looked like they had been dragged on the street. I know the housekeepers see the filth. Why does managment keep these filthy mattresses. It was too nasty for me. I went to the front desk and asked plainly, ‘are all the beds in this hotel dirty? Are there any clean rooms here, because if not, I need to check-out.” No argument from the front desk clerk. She checked me out immediately, no charge.

For a non-smoking room, it wreaked of cigarettes . There were cigarette holes burned through the sheets and bugs everywhere, kids didn’t get any sleep as they were afraid to close their eyes. Better off sleeping in your car, seriously, it’s nasty!

Lowest price available anywhere around here. Nice TV. Happy to have a refrigerator and microwave for this price. But the smell ruined everything. The smell of the lobby, the rooms, the hallways - just really bad. Like cigarettes and pet urine covered by Indian spices. 2 stars.

Very dilapidated. Very old fashioned with a new coat of paint. Blankets had holes from cigarettes in them. And after we left and we got home, we found a bedbug on the playpen we had taken with us. We realized it came from the room we slept in there, especially because there was a streak of blood? on one of our mattresses, that we ignored because it was only one streak.

Response from Sid P, General Manager at Econo Lodge Milldale - Southington
Responded 4 Aug 2015
Dear Guest, The following response is submitted with respect. First and foremost, it should be noted that this isolated incident has been taken seriously by the staff and management of the EconoLodge Plantsville-Southington. Our guests, past and future, should not be alarmed as there is no bed bug problem at EconoLodge. Although an isolated occurrence, anytime a guest is not satisfied or not comfortable for any reason it becomes a top concern for all of us, as guest satisfaction and comfort remain our number one priority. Regarding the incident in question the room was immediately taken off-line; a staff evaluation was conducted, followed by a thorough profession examination by NuAge Detection & Pest Elimination (Reg#B2997) with a K9. It was not until management was 100% certain that the room was suitable for occupancy that it was returned to inventory. As an experienced and conscientious hospitality professional, this incident is both frustrating and alarming, as we host thousands of guests each year, consistently providing exemplary service and comfort. We unequivocally apologize for the inconvenience and discomfort this guest experienced and once again, we would like to assure you that we do not have a bed bug problem. We take every step including staff training and professsional preventative programs to insure our guests; comfort. Sincerely, S Patel General Manager

The stay begins with two front desk attendants staring at me having a personal conversation as I struggle with my luggage and neither have caught the hospitality bug enough to at least a hold a door open. There is no automatic door openers here like you might see for a guest in a wheelchair.

To the room now. One bed has dried paint on it which is about eight inches long. The other has dried food near the pillows and a cigarette burn hole. I also notice the fridge is full of water. Like most people, I do not to sleep on these beds and I did want a functioning fridge. I ask for a new room, and the desk obliges, but simply gives a new key, and never, ever, extends any sort of an apology.

The new room is better. Hairs in the shower, but you know, I guess I will deal with that. I try to think that the bad part is behind me now. Unfortunately, we were just getting started. I realize I need an 8-page copy of a document.

I go to the desk for the copy and am told that it is 50-cents per page. I declined to ask if it is special paper, but do request that the fee be waived given the issues earlier. I was dealing with the same desk clerk, so he knew of the issues. His response was absolutely stunning. I was told that it was just dried paint. Just dried paint. Let that sink in. That it was just a cigarette burn hole. And the dried food item, they didn't even see it. Wow. Scary what is not being seen, but he concludes by telling that they did nothing wrong. Therefore they will not waive anything.

Unbelievable. I call Choice Hotels customer relations, and they essentially saved the day. The rep was amazing, and I encourage anyone, ever, having problems at a Choice Hotel, to call customer relations during the stay. This rep educated me that since I was using REWARD POINTS that the hotel is not entitled to collect this fee, or similar fees, because its a perk of using your points. The rep kept me on hold, spoke to the desk, and lo and behold I go down, see a new front desk attendant who bends over backwards to make that copy with no charge. So, be aware that this hotel may try to charge you for something that they are not entitled to charge you for, if you use points.

"You get what you pay for/it's an economy hotel" is not an excuse. I stay at many Econo Lodges and other economy hotels. Customer service is still an expectations. Apologies, when required, and expectation. Empathy, is an expectation. Dried paint on a bed cover, is not desired.

I stayed here in January and had problems then too. This is not an isolated incident. This is par for the course at the Econo Lodge in Milldale.
