All in all a a fair deal at a fair price though I wouldn't come for the view.
To the room now. One bed has dried paint on it which is about eight inches long. The other has dried food near the pillows and a cigarette burn hole. I also notice the fridge is full of water. Like most people, I do not to sleep on these beds and I did want a functioning fridge. I ask for a new room, and the desk obliges, but simply gives a new key, and never, ever, extends any sort of an apology.
The new room is better. Hairs in the shower, but you know, I guess I will deal with that. I try to think that the bad part is behind me now. Unfortunately, we were just getting started. I realize I need an 8-page copy of a document.
I go to the desk for the copy and am told that it is 50-cents per page. I declined to ask if it is special paper, but do request that the fee be waived given the issues earlier. I was dealing with the same desk clerk, so he knew of the issues. His response was absolutely stunning. I was told that it was just dried paint. Just dried paint. Let that sink in. That it was just a cigarette burn hole. And the dried food item, they didn't even see it. Wow. Scary what is not being seen, but he concludes by telling that they did nothing wrong. Therefore they will not waive anything.
Unbelievable. I call Choice Hotels customer relations, and they essentially saved the day. The rep was amazing, and I encourage anyone, ever, having problems at a Choice Hotel, to call customer relations during the stay. This rep educated me that since I was using REWARD POINTS that the hotel is not entitled to collect this fee, or similar fees, because its a perk of using your points. The rep kept me on hold, spoke to the desk, and lo and behold I go down, see a new front desk attendant who bends over backwards to make that copy with no charge. So, be aware that this hotel may try to charge you for something that they are not entitled to charge you for, if you use points.
"You get what you pay for/it's an economy hotel" is not an excuse. I stay at many Econo Lodges and other economy hotels. Customer service is still an expectations. Apologies, when required, and expectation. Empathy, is an expectation. Dried paint on a bed cover, is not desired.
I stayed here in January and had problems then too. This is not an isolated incident. This is par for the course at the Econo Lodge in Milldale.
