PRO: Great location, very friendly staff, good value, large rooms.

CON: A little outdated, very thin walls.

We stayed in the Rose Room (room #4). Could pretty much hear the conversation going on in the next room. Didn't help that they were "door-slammers" either. :-) Room was larger than I anticipated, or maybe it just seemed that way because of the high cathedral ceiling.

Given it was $158, and other B&B's in town charge much more than that, it was a good value. (Plus, we didn't spend much time in our room anyway.)

We didn't go into the restaurant, but it looked charming, and there was a very sizable crowd in there for Sunday brunch. Note that this is NOT a B&B, as there is no breakfast. However, Caralee's right down the street serves a very good breakfast.

All in all, it worked just fine for our purposes (a decent room at a good price - just wish it wasn't so noisy), but those looking for a "true B&B experience" should be advised to look elsewhere.

Stayed at the Fife N' Drum Inn in Kent CT for 3 nights in late July.

Check in: was a little strange at the bar of the restaurant next door. However the staff was pleasant and check in went smoothly.

I was in room #7. It is somewhat set off by itself. The room was quite large and nicely decorated. There was a refrigerator, with a bottle of orange juice and a bottle of grapefruit juice which was a plus, coffee pot with coffee and filters, cable TV, air conditioning, iron and ironing board and a large closet. There was a king size bed and a futon so the room would have easily slept 3 or 4. The room was very clean. The bathroom was old fashioned but very clean. The holder for the hair dryer was empty. A call to the restaurant produced a portable hair dryer in short order.

I was there on business, so it was a negative that there is no desk to put your computer on. I had to unplug the telephone and sit on the bay window to do my work e-mail, which was not comfortable. Also the lighting in the room is more for atmosphere than working. I would have appreciated a larger light bulb in the lamp.

The location of the Inn is right next to the center of town and you can walk to all the shops. There are several restaurants in the area and the Fife 'n Drum's own restaurant is excellent. The chicken marsala at the Pizza Garden is also quite good. For breakfast walk down the street to the cafe. .a nice local place with good breakfast at a reasonable price.

If I am in the area again I will definitely stay at the Fife n' Drum.

Stayed at the Fife'n Drum during February in order to go to Mohawk Mountain. Our stay was Saturday night and the check in at the restaurant and condition of the room were all very good.

The room itself had a vaulted ceiling and was recently remodeled. Everything was clean and in good working order. You are supplied with free juice and coffee and the room we had had a large king bed and a secondary bed/window seat was also in the room....so it would easily sleep 3.

This is an Inn and not a bed and breakfast......so don't expect free breakfast etc. I asked and discovered that a free lift ticket was provided for Mohawk......so make sure to ask for deals.

The vaulted ceiling and the room was extremely nice. The room and probably the Inn in general had one big negative.....no sound insulation. You can hear the TV from a room adjacent to yours and if you are a light sleeper it will be a problem.

The location of the Inn is right next to the center of town and you can walk to all the shops. There are several restaurants in the area and the Fife 'n Drum's own restaurant is excellent.

Personally, I'll probably hit a bed and breakfast in the future......but it was a good stay.

Shocking. Register at the restaurant? Clearly no one there knew much about the Inn, except to take our money. We were instructed to come back if we needed towels, etc. That wasn't comfortable. We walked over to the Inn, unlocked the door to our room, and opened onto a long, close staircase leading up to single locked door, which was our room. We felt rather trapped, especially with no other egress, and no staff available. The smoke detector casing was dark brown with age. ? Furnishings were sub-par, mismatched. No table to sit and eat or work. No glasses for drinks or water. The TV did not work well. Cleaning chemicals were stored in an unlocked bathroom floor cabinet. Kid safety? The mattress felt more like a board, pillows no better, and there was no extra bedding. We took a quilt off of the daybed for extra warmth. This revealed that the daybed was actually two beds, one on top of the other, the top bed on some kind of metal platform. Who gets to move the bed if needed? The grounds around the Inn were overgrown and sloppy, especially for anyone needing to go around back to find their door. Parking for the Inn was poor, as we shared with the restaurant and gift shop, leaving no spaces for us. We should have marched right back to the restaurant and demanded our money back.

100% agree with some of the other reviews. Check in is at the restaurant which you have to sorta guess is connected to the "inn". The waitresses there aren't even that friendly when you arrive. The owner acts more like an employee than an owner. The internet was down for my 1st 2 days. The "inn" has not been updated since, well - hard to say actually. During my stay they actually had a crew yawning and patching up the room next door with no warning of the noise or the mess. When I checked out I asked for an emailed copy of my bill - I'm still waiting and I emailed then 2 times. Would not recommend at all!

Please accept our sincere apologies that your stay at our Inn did not meet your expectations. Had we been made aware of your displeasure before you checked out, we surely would have attempted to make it up to you - somehow. We value our return guests, and hope that you will find a way to give us a try again in the future. Also, it would really help if you could tell us how/where you received your information that our Inn served breakfast, since in fact we have never offered it - and you are the second guest in the past year who publicly chastised us for it!

Wonderful place to stay. The cleanest rooms I think I have ever stayed in. The place was immaculate.
Kent itself is so nice this time of year and the Fife n Drum just added to the wonderful weekend.
The staff was very friendly.
I am not a huge fan of B & B's and this was a great alternative since that area has alot more B & B's then hotels.
The bar and restaurant was also very nice.
Walking distance to some shops and restaurants.
The inn was fully booked, however, did not hear a thing the entire night. So quiet and relaxing. Planning on going back again and again.

This B&B/Inn was listed on CT’s site for B&B’s for a place to stay. Plus online it says upscale B&B and the sign out front says Fife n’ Drum Restaurant and Inn

The room is cozy and the building construction is post and beam , this is where the B&B /Inn ends.

This really is a very high priced motel. There is no Inn Keeper no owner that lives onsite

There is no breakfast at all. You must go to a local restaurant down the street. There is a restaurant next door that owns this building. You check in at the restaurant bar. That is the only connection. You don’t even get a reduced meal at the restaurant for staying at the “Inn”

We spoke to the owner at the bar next door yesterday. She said she did not know she was listed as a B&B. Really????? I was not born yesterday. It is listed such on many sites

Does the name ‘Inn’ in you business name give you any clue what so ever?

At $185 per night this is just a quite expensive motel. A bed in a room , Bathroom. Coffee maker and mini fridge. Yup. A motel.

The is no common area nor living room nor kitchen where the owner/Inn keeper makes meals

This is not our first B&B. We have stayed at many in the past

Oh... check out is 11 AM. If you stay past that time you are charged another night. You check out in the bar at the restaurant next door. OK fine. Just a short walk across parking lot. One issue. They don’t open until 11:30 AM. So you are already late checking out past their posted sign So you have to check out the night before you leave. How quaint

Kent is quite beautiful and we have visited many local shops. Already started Xmas shopping. Lol. Found a great present for a loved one already

Visiting Kent falls and park today. Can’t wait

Jim and I are having a great time.

So business out there. DO NOT list your self as a B&B or Inn if you are NOT

You WILL get negative reviews like mine

Dear Diane R: We need your help here. Can you PLEASE provide the name of the website where you found the listing saying we are a B&B, we will gladly and permanently correct any erroneous information there! The last thing we want is to risk receiving reviews such as yours. You can forward the name of the site to elissa@fifendrum.com Please understand that we have checked our own website as well as our listing on the State of Connecticut's visitct.com, and we have found nothing listing us as a B&B. We have also checked sites like bedandbreakfast.com and ctbandbs.com - and we have found no listings for us there. We want our online information to be accurate - can you help? With your expectation of a stay at a B&B, we fully understand why your accommodations were not what you envisioned. BUT do you recall that when you brought your B&B complaint to our attention, we offered - and you accepted - a $20 discount? Could you have mentioned this in your review? ... and that you were actually charged less than $150 per night (before CT's 15% hotel tax) after a discount for your husband's military service? We have not remained in business for over 46 years by being ignoring our customers' complaints, and we take yours very seriously. So please help us to correct any online misinformation that may be out there, for the sake of our future customers.

It’s leaf peeper season and many people are out to see fall foliage. We called ahead to see if there was a wait, because many other restaurants in Kent were closed on Columbus Day, and found that there was plenty of room.

We ordered and were not disappointed except for the lobster roll. It was basically lobster salad with added fillers like celery with no mention of this on the menu. Additionally, the menu was on one sheet of paper-limiting you to just a few selections.

Service was good but some of the decor was dated and needed dusting. We may be back but you can’t compare it to Kingsley Tavern-right down the road, whose food is always surpurb!

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night, and we were glad it wasn't more.

Our first impression was that this was a nice spacious room in a lovely part of America. It probably is the case that we were unlucky, and that this is usually a lovely place to stay at. However, there were a number of issues which meant that we left less than impressed.

First, our air conditioning unit did not work. It was a hot evening, so we mentioned it at the desk. Despite the assurances that something would be done, nothing was - as far as we know, nobody even came to check the aircon, although the total lack of communication meant that we couldn't be sure.

In addition to this, the wifi did not work, and our room had quite a lot of ants in (and even a rather lonely grasshopper).

Most disappointing was the "check out". We had not been told what the check out procedure was, so assumed it was simply a case of going to the front desk in the morning and handing the key in. However, the desk (in the nearby restaurant) did not open until 10. We went to get breakfast to fill the time, but there was no sign of any activity when we returned at 10:40. We tried ringing a number printed on the building, but there was no answer. As a result, we left without being able to mention any of the problems we had encountered, whilst having to leave our key in an open room.

In short, as nice as the Inn's rooms are (aircon aside), one gets the feeling that it plays second fiddle to the restaurant. A shame.

The place was clean, but the room was worn down. You can hear the heavy noise of the Train Tracks at night which could interrupt light sleepers. For all options in KENT this is probably one of the best.
