The balcony was run down. The windows did not have screens. The sliding doors to the balcony did have screens but they were torn in several places. The coffee table was in poor shape and needs to be replaced. One of the chairs in the living room area had several burn holes in them. Both of the bath towels were disgusting looking. They were stained with what looked like blood!! I was very disappointed that one of the jets in the whirlpool tub in our room was broken. There was a TV in the living room and bed area but only one TV remote. There is free internet but it only worked somewhat in the bathroom! The room was large as we got a king suite. That is the only thing that seemed to be true of the booking. I would not stay here again.

The good--the room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast was decent--coffee, OJ, apple juice, bagels, cream cheese, a toaster, fruit, cereal and muffin. Staff was reasonably helpful.

The bad--Very poorly managed. The amenities here were extraordinarily out of date. Example--I booked this room b/c it had a microwave. THE MICROWAVE WAS SO OLD THAT IT HAD A DIAL ON IT. I was afraid to use it. Management could purchase an up-to-date microwave for under $100. The faucet fixtures were tarnished and leaky. THE ROOM DIDN'T EVEN HAVE AN ALARM CLOCK IN IT! (We did comment on this, and the staff provided us with one--but honestly, we shouldn't have to ask!). The flooring was torn, the towel rack was falling off, the windows and door were difficult to lock, the wallpaper was peeling off, we had an iron but no ironing board, the chairs were so old that the dirt on the arm rests was visible and the tissue box wasn't filled. Oh, AND THERE WAS AN OLD, DIRTY MATTRESS JUST HANGING OUT IN THE BACK, LEANED UP AGAINST THE HOTEL. Real classy.

You definitely can get a better value elsewhere. A lot of these things are easy fixes that wouldn't cost much to take care of, and the management's failure to do so says to me as a customer--"We just want your money and don't care about your level of comfort."

After attending a family holiday gathering in Mystic Conn. we arrived on Tuesday Dec 23, 2014 with a reservation booked by Hotel-Rates.com for one nite at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites. We arrived at check in time (3:00 pm). There were no cars in the parking lot and no other guest around. It appeared deserted. At the front desk we rang and rang the bell several times. My husband went and checked the hallways and opened the door to the stairway to no avail. Finally, a female appeared who id herself as "Jeg". We checked in and were given room 105. At the room, my husband put on the heat but found that it was Not getting warm. So we decided to wait awhile by doing a small load of laundry. We stopped at the desk and requested change for a five dollar bill. She denied our request saying the bill was not good because it was slightly torn. Even with a piece of tape she would not honor it. Now, because my wife has a disability, we decided to use the elevator to go down to the laundry room. However the elevator did not go down! So, we reported it and was told to use the stairs. Downstairs in the laundry only one washer was operable. Although this time we were able to use the elevator but only to go up not down. Now, back at the room we realized that the heating system was not working. We walked back to the front desk and reported this issue. We also requested a room change. We were told that since we were already settled in that she would not give us another room. She offered only a small plug in heater however, she told us that it would be a while before getting it because she was busy bathing her children in the back room. We went back to the room and decided to call and report these issues. Within a few minutes we were given a room change and a room with a great heating system. Although, the front desk person was very annoyed with us for calling up and reporting the situation. She sure let us know her displeasure and I let her know that I would write and submit this review. Anyhow, in the morning we went to the lobby for their continental breakfast which by far, was nothing to write home about especially during the holidays. Finally, we packed up, checked out and drove away, but not before noticing that, there were only (3) other cars in the parking lot. They say that a picture is like a thousand words. Anyhow, "Merry Christmas to the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites" in Mystic, Conn :)

The only positive this I can say is the room had plenty of room. I can deal with an outdated dirty room, but when I pay for something I expect it. I paid for a jacuzzi room and got a room with a small whirlpool tub. Definitely not the picture of the room I chose. That's what I get for paying in full non refundable. Now I see why that was. Customers do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to not stay here, it's worth the extra money to get what you pay for.

This place is 100% outdated and not maintained well. The carpets were tacky, so don’t walk around barefoot in the room. Ripped blankets, possible blood on the wall by the sink, and the A/C did not work at all. It was a miserable, hot night. No one even showered because the shower was very questionable and looked worse than the showers in a college dorm.

This hotel was excellent. The hotel room was spacious, nicely furnished, comfortable and quiet. The hotel and room were very clean. There was a lovely flower garden along the entrance walk. The staff were very helpful. The room was great value for the price. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe. I would stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights the last week in April 2005. This was our first time in Groton, CT and I booked the luxury room with a king bed and jacuzzi and it has a large living room area with a kitchenette area.

The microwave was old and dirty from circa 1980 and the couches were worn and ripped. There was no heat on one side of the room and the other side had heat but made sparking noises when turned on. The toliet was dripping (very loud) and didn't flush right and was loose when you sit on it. The maintenance man spoke only spanish and it was hard to communicate with him about the toilet problems and heat problems. We had to wait a long time while an electrician came by the next day and he told us that the heater/a/c unit needs to be replaced and that he fixed 6 units in the past week. He said the units are about 15 years old and the owners have been slow to replace them. The front desk person told us she would give us another luxury room but we passed as they were worse than the room we were staying in! The other room she showed us had no heat as well and was in worse shape. The fire alarm kept going off a few times a day and the front desk kept calling us to see if we were cooking in the room. I wouldn't touch those old pots and dishes in the cupboards if you paid me to.

The blinds were bent on all the windows and didn't open and there is a huge cathedral window without any blinds or shade on it which lit up the entire room and it was so hard to get sleep as the light from the parking lot was shining in our room at night and as soon as the sun was up so were we! We hardly slept.

The staff are friendly but not accommodating. I called many times the front desk and they told me that they have not received any complaints about the problems we were having and that there is nothing they can do for us.

I have to say is that the king bed was comfortable but we didn't sleep much due to the noise from the dripping toilet and having constant light in the room. There were 2 TVs with Cable TV which was nice and the room was pretty much clean. The jacuzzi was small but it was clean and it worked. We had to beg for extra Towels which were worn as they only gave you 1 hand towel and 2 small bath towels in the room and were told they ran out of towels and would come by later to bring us more. This went on for 3 days! This hotel needs major updating and we will not be staying here again!

My family is relocating to the area and we had planned on staying at the Sojourner Inn while we looked for a house. We chose the suite with the seperate bedroom. The rooms are tastefully decorated and quite spacious, but the furnishings seemed a bit old.

Early this morning my wife had an appointment so I decided to sleep in. While I was in the bathroom I heard the room phone ring but I didn't get to it in time. I thought nothing of it and went back in the bedroom to lay down. I thought that I heard some noise coming from the living room area and I opened the door to find one of the hotel workers going through our belongings.

When I opened the door it startled the worker and all that he could say was "I didn't see the sign", without ever looking back at the door. We called the police and to our surprise the person in our room was the hotel manager and his reason that he told the police officer for going through our belongings was to see if we needed room service.

To make a long story short we immediately made other arrangements for a place to stay.

I will be honest, we were suspicious because when we'd leave the room (even with the "privacy please" sign up) and return later things seemed like they weren't where we put them. But, never in my life have I even encountered such a blatant and unwarranted violation of privacy.

I planned a day excursion to Mystic however exhaustion got the best of us and I decided to stay overnight. The Sojourner Inn was available for a fair price on the Fourth of July weekend. It was very clean, polite staff and quiet accommodations and close to everything. The Seaport is very disappointing! The golf range, mini golf, game room and aquarium are your best bets.

My wife and I have stayed at the Sojourner Inn in Groton every year when we visit Souteastern Ct. We have always enjoyed staying there, but no more.

The Sojourner Inn is under new management and they are quite simply horrible. The hotel is in very bad shape.

We arrived last night for a room that we reserved in advance. Our room was dirty, there were no clean towels, it had a strong mildue odor, and the ceiling was actually dripping rainwater onto our bed. When we asked the front desk for help they were very rude and basically refused to help us.

We checked out first thing this morning (in the pouring rain no less) and relocated to another nearby hotel to finish our vacation.

Do not, I repeat, do not stay at the Sojourner Inn.

Is there anyway I can arrange a ride to/from Foxwoods through here?
Answer from Pat D
East Setauket, New York63 contributions35 helpful votes
Groton is closer to Mohegan Sun, not Foxwoods. Some of the Groton hotels offer free shuttles to Mohegan Sun. To take a cab to Foxwoods would be pricey. You're better off getting a hotel/motel nearer Foxwoods that offer the same free shuttles.
