So we stopped into this place after a long day of looking at boats...our last broker we spoke to at the Island Cove Marina recommended it to us...what a great recommendation...the place is beautiful...people are very nice...we got there 15 min before dinner started and were promptly seated...in the Library room...the decour (sorry about the spelling..!) of the place was...

A group of us had dinner here. It is a neat old restaurant. Our server took great care of our table. The menu had a lot of choices. I had the potato cakes for a starter, they were the closest to the ones I had in Germany, they were fantastic. I had the special trout dinner, it was great. Highly...

We really enjoyed the Griswold Inn's new seasonal menu. We started by sharing a pear and arugula salad that was tasty and nicely presented. (They divided it for us before serving it.) The pork chop was tender and flavorful and the vegetables complimented it nicely. The duck breast was moist and delicious on a bed of spaghetti squash with a...

Quant inn with original old wooden floors. Bathroom was very nice and the room, although not real big is clean and nice. No TV in the room, you go to a common area in another building to watch. The people are very nice and try to help in any way they can. The bar, wine room and restaurant area are...

Stayed in the Hayden House for a recent wedding and everything about the Griswold Inn was superb! Rooms were spacious and comfy. Just the right amount of historical ambiance mixed with everything you would need for the modern times. Grounds are beautiful! The town is very friendly. Highly recommend staying here! The wine bar had different entertainment every night and...

The History Makes it Great. The taproom on the weekends and Mondays... is the best! Artwork and smell of history. The food is average... no matter how hard they try it is average to boring. The rooms do not have TVs due to thin walls, ok anyway... nice to disconnect. I enjoy staying in the historic rooms. My only beef...

I love eating a meal in an historic location, and the Griswold Inn certainly fits the bill. It is very interesting just to walk around the inside of the restaurant simply to view all the historic memorabilia, books, etc. on display. Atmosphere is pleasing; we were there at lunch so there were actually not very many people, therefore no noise...

** My review is the restaurant only, not the hotel ** Winter here is just magnificent, but this trip, we ate outdoors on their patio. As much as I don't like cars driving by so close to our table, the food is what we came for. Reservations are recommended on weekends because this is a tourist attraction. I love the...

My wife and I had talked about staying at the Inn for quite some time and finally had the time to visit Essex and book a room. My expectations were high as we have staid in many historic properties - I was a bit let down. I thought we were going to be in the Inn itself but were placed...

We're sorry your recent visit was a bit disappointing. Now that you've been here, you probably understand the "lay of the land" but to clarify for others that may read this review...We refer to our property as a "campus": we have the Main Inn which houses our spirited Tap Room, our five historic dining rooms, our Wine Bar, and our...

Having the surname "Griswold" piqued our curiosity about this accommodation and the Essex, CT area. We visited for 2 nights and were simply amazed by the The Griswold Inn itself and the town that surrounds it. Visiting the Inn is like stepping back 240 years in time but with a modern twist. The Inn has managed to preserve the flavor...

Thank you Peggy GRISWOLD for sharing your comments with the Trip Advisor community about your recent visit to Essex and The 'Gris' - both very special spots in our humble opinion as well. :) We are delighted, of course, that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay.
