Detailed Reviews
Liked the Amselhaus so much, ended up staying four nights. Robin is so helpful and friendly. Loved the big kitchen and starting the day with the special Amselhaus blend of coffee. You can walk to the Housatonic River to fish. It is also a place to get your laundry done and resupply at the country market across the road.

My family and I stayed at the north suite during our ski trip (thurs-sat).Robin greeted us and showed us how everything worked and was very nice. This is a quaint and original home with updated furnishings. It's cozy and much thought has gone into the details of the furnishings. We usually stay at hotels so this was a nice change of pace. It's nice to be able to make breakfast and lunch in a kitchen and not have to bring anything. (All utensil, silverware, cooking equipment, coffee maker etc) Since it is an older home, it was a bit of a hunt looking for the light switches-part of the adventure. If you want to cook, make sure you buy or bring groceries prior to arriving otherwise there's limited options and are pricier even though there's a convenient market across the way. The best part was that it was so close to Mohawk Mtn, free wifi, and direct tv. I would definitely come back and could see us enjoying the stay during the warmer weather as well.

Stayed here with some couples for a wedding weekend and couldn’t have been happier. Beautiful vintage home, nice setting near the river, everything was clean and worked, and Robin was very friendly/helpful. Highly recommend!

I loved the cute little 3 bedroom apartment in a beautiful historical building. Robin was very kind and welcoming. I was a half-mile from a lovely section of the Appalachian Trail, and a short drive to cute little towns like Kent and Sharon. They even had a nice laundry room in my apartment which was great since was half-way through a two week vacation when I arrived.

We liked the place a lot, we used it as a base for trips in the area - Kent Falls are just about 4 miles away, as is the Mohawk Mt. park and ski resort. The suites are well equipped, rooms cozy, kitchen w dishwasher available too. Parking is easy, post office and liquor store just around the corner.

+1
My family and I lucked up on this last minute gem of a location at the last minute for the Labor Day Weekend last year! We were pleasantly surprised as the house is spacious, comfortable and very well kept. In addition, Robin is a gracious and pleasant hostess. We appreciated and used all of the amenities including the well stocked kitchen, the dining room as well as the porch and the backyard BBQ grill. I especially liked the laundry room complete with a washer and dryer ..smh but that's just me! We are returning for an entire week this July and intend to make this an annual vacation spot. The surrounding area is quaint and there is apple picking nearby when it's the season. We even caught a wonderful County Fair that Robin told us about! Yaay... thanks Robin , your the hostess with the mostest! See you soon...

My wife and I stayed at The Amselhaus for a week while we day hiked the length of the Appalachian Trail in Connecticut. The Amselhaus is ideal for such an endeavor, as it is close to all of the parking for the AT trailheads in Connecticut.
The Amselhaus was a nice place for us to clean up, enjoy supper, and rest after each of our hikes. The North Unit of the Amselhaus in which we stayed featured a full kitchen, dining room, living room with satellite TV, bathroom, and laundry room. The three bedrooms in the North Unit could accommodate as many six guests in my estimation.
I especially liked the way Amselhaus provides guests with breakfast each morning, giving them a voucher for the purchase of breakfast at the general store immediately across the road from Amselhaus. Breakfasts at the General Store were delicious and the manager and his staff very friendly. It was a most pleasant way to start each day.
Robin, the owner of Amselhaus, is a gracious host. She was attentive to our needs and responsive to the few requests we had, but was most respectful of our privacy.
Overall Amselhaus was a very convenient, comfortable, and cozy place to stay. It is hard to imagine any place that would have been better suited to our needs, and I would hope to stay there again should my future travels bring me to Northwest Connecticut.

It was really great to meet you both and be able to give you a "home base" for your week of section hiking. The weather was nearly perfect for you! I'm glad that the breakfast package worked out for you as well. We always appreciate the great breakfast the Market provides to our guests. Hope to see you again!

My AT hiker husband and I met at this lovely inn so he could switch out some gear to lighten his load. Robin has preserved the charm of this 1800s-era building while incorporating modern conveniences such as wifi, a fully equipped modern kitchen, tv, etc. There are beautiful period touches throughout - antique furniture, unique artwork, and my favorite, the charming iron doorstops. One can be completely comfortable, however, without having to feel "Oh, I must walk very carefully so I don't disturb anything!" We stayed in the South unit, which has separate living and dining rooms, a kitchen, access to a back porch with rocking chairs and a view of the river, and a half-bathroom downstairs. Upstairs were two lovely bedrooms (very comfortable beds!), a utility room with a washer and dryer that guests are welcome to use, and a large bathroom with a lovely clawfoot tub. How we wish we could have settled in for a longer stay, but my hiker had to get back on the trail! Thank you, Robin, for a delightful stay!

We stayed at the Amselhaus on a Saturday night as we were skiing at Mohawk on the Sunday. It is a very well maintained, period property and you can see that the owner takes a lot of pride in it as it is personal, warm and spotlessly clean. Couple of tips - it does take a bit of finding - our navigation systems (car & iPhone) came up with three different locations. It is actually within a stones throw of Cornwall Bridge - so I would recommend you head for there first and then look for the place. Also if you don't bring your own food for an evening meal be prepared for a 9 mile drive to Kent (where there are some nice restaurants). For breakfast you get vouchers to go over the road to a kind of deli which is really nice. Hope my comments come across as informative as opposed to negative as we will certainly return

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. It was a pleasure to meet you and accommodate you for your ski trip. GPS does struggle with this area. We do our best to guide our guests to the correct intersection. Hopefully the GPS situation improves. We are always hopeful that local restaurants will reopen so there will be closer food choices. I look forward to seeing you again in the future! Thank you for choosing The Amselhaus!

I took our family of 4 to spend Christmas in CT. The place was wonderful and Robin made us feel right at home and like family. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite which had everything we needed(full kitchen, laundry room) even a Christmas Tree. We will make a return visit.
