We stayed one night at Hitching Post Country Motel while passing through the area with our dog. Room was small but clean and comfortable and the bathroom was fine. WiFi worked in the evening but was out in the morning. The location is nice, very close to Kent Falls and the covered bridge. There was country store next door to get breakfast from. Nothing fancy here, but it was a dog friendly room and fine for one night. Wouldn't want to stay here for an extended time.

This is being written by runnergirl's husband....

I get up to this area to race at Limerock once or twice a year. One complaint most of us racers have is the pricing of hotels in the area. Lots of not that great places at $180+++ per night.

I read that this motel had been renovated, and a friend and I decided to split a room with two double beds for two nights. At the price, we figured it was worth it to not be camping or sleeping in my race car trailer.

The room had fresh carpets, bedding, paint and bathroom. Yeah, it's an old building and the layout is a bit funky and the shower is a bit small....but so what? This area is so beautiful, you shouldn't be staying around the hotel all day!

Hotel is approx 15 min from limerock....closer to the fly fishing outfits. Took about 15 min give or take to get home from the bar at the Falls Village Motel one night, and about 25 min or less to get back from the Woodlands Restaurant.

If you're in the area and looking to save a few bucks, you can't go wrong with this place.

I'm very thankful for this little place called Hitching Post Motel. It has allowed me to get out of manic New york City and escape to beautiful Litchfield County (while living on a tight budget).

This is a great find because we all know how expensive this area can be.

There are no perks or luxuries. The rooms are older but have all the basics: bed, bathroom, a/c, heater, tv, fridge and microwave.

If you come out to enjoy a good hike, skiing or town-hopping on a small budget give this place a try.

Tips:
- Get snacks and drinks to bring back to the room in the evenings.
- Ask for an extra blanket in cooler months
- Bring instant coffee. A great plus for the morning as there is a microwave

Stayed here last year. It was tolerable. Very outdated. Mom and pop operation. Middle of nowhere. They still use toilet paper bands. The WiFi password is 12 random digits. The owner offered a discount if I paid cash. There were (hopefully permanent) stains on the bedding— and nothing had changed. Only this year the room was occupied next to me. I could hear the TV as if it were in my room. I know he didn’t have it on loud because after he turned it off I heard his snoring all night until he turned the TV back on at 4. I was grateful that our heating unit frequently drained out the sounds.
On the good side, nothing itches this morning and it is 7 minutes from Mt. Mohawk.
P.S. owner did not wear a mask when he checked me in.

I hate to write a bad review but if this helps just one person avoid a horrible experience…. Stayed for one night. When we walked in, it smelled as though someone Smoked in the (non smoking) room everyday for a year straight. I wiped every surface with Lysol wipes; after using 20 they still came out black. The room was full of ants, too many to count. The sheets were very stained and didn’t fit the bed; the bottom sheet was so small it didn’t cover the mattress. Gross.

I could go on. My husband wanted to sleep in the car. He was right.

I’d give this zero stars but the app won’t allow. In this case, it should.

Nice, clean room with a king-sized bed. Refrigerator, microwave, and Direct TV. Owner very helpful with the free Wi-Fi. Stayed here 2 years ago and glad it was available once again. Hiker friendly, owner will shuttle. Food delivery available; extensive menu.

Seriously, a terrible place! It's not clean, smelly and disgusting. Mosquitoes, ticks, spiders, and a lot of other insects that will turn your stay into a real nightmare. Towels and shower were so filthy, that it seemed like after you'll use it, you would get even dirtier than you were before, not cleaner.. For that unreasonably high price they charge, a complimentary gallon of vodka should be offered to the guests, so they could just pass out without noticing all the stains on the ceiling, holes in the walls and all the possible bad surprises.

I got to the Hitching Post late in the evening and the owner was extremely helpful. I called earlier in the day to see if a friend of mine had checked in and he went out of his way to try to find him. Since the owner was so nice, I ended up staying. The rooms are not upscale, and had unusual layouts, but they were clean. I slept comfortably.

I have stayed at many places(hotels, inns, motels) across this country, but have to say I was really pleased with my multiple visits here. The owners are engaging and friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and you can't beat the price. The rooms have the basics(tv,microwave, fridge) and 2 large beds. I have been there when there were many rooms occupied, but was not bothered by any undue noise. I have read the comments from the complainers out there, and feel pretty certain you all would find issues at the Ritz-Carlton. These hard working folks provide a valued service, and have my gratitude for doing so.

One of the worst motels I've stayed in. For starts, to check in, we had to press a buzzer to be allowed into the so-called office. The room had two double beds, as we requested, but the big disappointed was the bathroom. A room that appeared to be approximately 2 feet by 4 feet had a toilet and a tiny shower shoved into it. The sink was in another area sharing space with the closet. That evening when we returned to the room, we found the same guy who had checked us in, who may or may not be the proprietor, in our room hooking up a portable heater. He told us the heat wasn't working, that it might be fixed by the next day. It wasn't. Fortunately for us, we did not spend much time in this room. A problem for the traveler who wants to stay in this immediate area is that this place is the only motel. My suggestion is to find a place a bit farther away, perhaps a bed and breakfast.
