i didn't have high hopes going into my stay as far as the lodging but boy was i surprised. the snowmass inn was wonderful. its no W hotel but it was warm, comfortable and clean. we received free breakfast and lunch and pool/hottub access. and oh did i mention we were 50 years from the mountain and the village. this was the perfect stay for me and my 12 year old son and we would definitely recommend to anyone on a budget. if its ski in ski out you want NOTHING comes close as this price. we booked the first week in march and received a spring skiing discount to what amounted to under $200/night. find me anywhere in aspen/snowmass where you can stay at that price and with FREE WiFi!
Pls note: there was no checkin at the Snowmass Inn; formalities are conducted at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet down the street. And, parking is not included in the room rates; it was $10 a night at the nearby lots. There is an unloading zone in front of the hotel. The Mountain Chalet does have a couple of computers for guest use. Snowmass is a nice destination for skiing, since you don’t really need a car to get around. There are several areas for skiing down to the lifts and shuttle buses to get around. This includes buses to take you to the other three nearby ski areas – Aspen, Highlands and Buttermilk. Staying at the Snowmass Inn, we were able to walk down the street to the snow and either take the gondola down to the base or ski down to the other lifts or gondolas. The bus stop is across from the hotel. The room is basic ski lodge style – worn out carpets, pressboard furniture, weird 60’s/70’s style interior – globe lights, baseboard heaters. This room had two beds and the furniture was placed without regard to the location of the heaters such as a built in cabinet for the refrigerator / microwave with just half of the heater sticking out. Not sure if all of the rooms have refrigerators / microwaves / coffee machines, since the next door neighbor always had beverages left out overnight (we were on the first floor, room 223). There was plenty of storage space, despite the two beds in the room – an armoire and a large ledge. We used the second bed to lay out our ski clothing as well. There are racks for holding skis and poles near the door. There was one strong draft coming in around the doorjamb; the most we could do was place a towel at the bottom to block the biggest gap. It was one of the cheaper accommodations in Snowmass; it was convenient to ski in and out, with easy access to the Mall and gondola to the base. The quality of the room was no better / no worse than the average ski motel from our more youthful days twenty years ago in the Tahoe area. The biggest detractor – the noise. Not sure the source, but from above, there was constant stomping around – from the room above or the walkway to the rooms ? Fortunately, we were dogtired after skiing, so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience, but it was constant. We did not hear much noise from the room on the other side of us on the first floor.…
Our room in the Snowmass Inn was very basic. It was clean, but VERY dated. We stayed there because we were stuck in Snowmass an extra night due to snow storm. We were happy to get the room, and very pleased that management let us out of the second night of our reservation, which, as they pointed out, is against their policy. There were lots of outside noises and lots of noises from the next rooms. My sense is that this is where college kids and families traveling on the cheap (as we, ourselves, have done in the past) come to stay. No problems with that. But, you should know that before you book.
We drove from Grand Lake , lots of road work going on and gps got confused while location the property .One need to get Mountain Chalet which is the next property for getting check - in registration . Rooms are pretty old , no air conditioners , some old racks - on a whole I find it very very old stuffs - stinking beds. For the cost I paid - I will not recommend
Came back to stay (been here before in 2013) knowing full well what to expect. Let's be clear, this property is not for the faint of heart ;) Aspen-aspiring fur-wearing tourists. Could this place use a major renovation ? It surely does without any doubt. But as it is, for a fraction of the price you'd pay anywhere else in the area of these four wonderful mountains you get a decent fair sized room with two double beds with a small fridge and microwave oven. On top, the swimming pool and hot tub are yours to enjoy. Let alone that it is slope-side and the staff is as good as it gets - same as they were 3 years ago when we first visited, kudos - and literally only steps away from the Snowmass Mall. Daily room cleaning service is beyond reproach. Enjoyed every moment of our ski vacation, same as three years ago when we promised we'd be back. We'll be back again!…
