A bit disappointing when you first drive in, if you're not sure whether you're in a cabin or the actual motel - if you find out that you're in the motel. There is typically never anyone at the front desk, so good luck there (especially if you're checking out). Our room was JUST ok. They'd done some touch-up work on...

The rooms are spacious and decorated cool vintage. Everything was really clean and organized with plenty of towels, and the little things one would need when visiting a place without anything. Cant wait to go back again!

We spent Christmas at the Mountain Motel. The staff was friendly. We had to get our own clean towels. Shampoo/conditioner was not left for us. Comfortable beds. Fair room. Nothing special, but accommodated our needs. The location is convenient to town and facilities.

Great place to stay. Super nice people running the place. Very nice comfortable beds. I wish I could show you the fish I caught. The deer sometimes come right up to the fence to see you. My dog had the best time of her life. I only lost about three bucks playing poker with my brother and cousins. The food...

Take a chance and get away from staying at the big chain blues. Mountain Motel is one of the best motels we've visited in all the years of travel. We stayed in Room Six which was decorated for the winter season. The furniture was top grade; the bed fabulous; the large wooden rocking chair a delight. The bathroom was the...

This is a very nice family-run accommodation. It is one of only a few hotels in Salida that accepts pets, and that is the reason we selected it. The little cabins are nice and fully equipped. Not much in the way of frills, but priced accordingly.

The cabins are super cute with antique furniture, extras like cute wooden trash cans, and very comfortable beds. Unlike the reviews of many other places along this highway, we had no traffic noise problems. It is not a 5-star hotel, it is rated 5 stars by me because it is cute and nice for the price!

Checking in was a very pleasant experience...the owner/manager was friendly and professional. Having stayed at Mountain Motel before, I was not disappointed...in fact some updates around the property had been made making the visit even better than before. Rooms are not huge however they are very adequate for two adults and one very well behaved pooch. Thank you Moutain Motel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hitchin' Post Motel, formerly know as the Mountain Motel welcomed its first guests in 1947. In 1996, six more rooms were built to accommodate the tremendous influx of visitors to the motel. The Hitchin' Post Motel has been a family endeavor, being locally owned and operated since 1947... Over 55 years! In December 2011, the owners of The Mountain Motel felt that it was time to showcase the charm and history of the motel by changing the name to The Hitchin' Post Motel representing the by-gone era of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. After transforming the office area into a lounge and reading room, the energetic owners set to work to begin outfitting the remaining nine rooms with an exhaustive inventory of Mountain Western Retro furniture, fixtures and room decor. Their vision to make the Hitchin'Post, Salida's FIRST "boutique mote;" and reinventing an American icon - the roadside motel is coming to life!Foremost in the minds of the staff at the Hitchin'Post Motel is to provide guests with a comfortable, cozy, distinctive and memorable stay. One-size DOES NOT fit all! Each room has been reimagined to bring in the owner's own style to make each room personable and "one-of-a-kind." Room decor is "Mountain Western Retro" - reminiscent of properties dating back to the 1940's, 1950's, and early 1960's. We consider our motel an ever evolving work of "motel art," where updates and decor are an on-going effort. We pride ourselves on being the only local motel to bring the "boutique motel" experience to guests visiting Salida.A locally owned motel, the Hitchin' Post Motel is noticeably different in look and feel from other hotel/motel chains - we love it when our guests are pleasantly "surprised" to find that the motel offers much more than a room to sleep. We invite YOU to share our "Mountain Western Retro" experience! Whether it be... Sharing a bowl of chili on a cold day with other guests, or sipping the special "Hitchin'Post Ice Tea on a hot day... Your stay at the Hitchin'Post Motel in Salida, Colorado will be a memory to share forever and keep you coming back, year after year. ... more   less
