This is without a doubt the place to stay in Rote. Dean and Sharon have built a place thats amazing. The rooms are very comfortable and cleaned daily.The food is enough for any hungry surfer with great variety.The pool is sooo good after a surf, along with a cold beer that Obed (Rote's most famous barman) will serve with a smile and a joke. With a great wave out front your boat trips to and from are covered with Alfred and Yosef who wont leave you stranded. You can explore the island on your own moped and soak up the local culture, or, Deono will organise one of the local tour ops to go further explore. I travelled solo and stayed for 3 weeks and laughed, danced ,ate and surfed the whole time. Thanx to the whole crew there !!!

Dino and Sharon are fantastic hosts. They have gone all out to make a fantastic villa/resort. For a surfer this is the perfect destination and allows itself to be perfect for a family destination also. We got the all inclusive package three meals a day and I can tell you that this will not let you down the food was just amazing probably a little too much food LOL. With access to the primary boat every day and a smaller tinny if required for easy access out to Tlands. every day or should I say two or three times a day. We didn’t venture much past the break out front however there’s some great places close by that can be accessed by bike in for the more adventurous Dane will sort you the boat to go further afar exceptional waves. Bedrooms all pillars in self are extremely clean and tidy Dino runs a very tight shift and without doubt he’s a perfectionist the place it self is spotless and will not disappoint any fussy traveller. The bar and eating area is it is open at an extremely relaxing place to enjoy a few quiet beers and a sunset. The bar at self generally has a small handful of people in the evenings sometimes to watch some football. The great thing is it’s got a great atmosphere but navigate to out of hand very quiet little bar which makes it easy for people to return to bed for an early morning start. I would not hesitate in recommending this venue for your next roti trip. It may be a little more expensive then some of the surrounding accommodation however I can tell you it’s worth every cent. i’m a bit loathed to do my first review ever as i’ll never be able to find an available booking again, but feel obliged as dino and the villa santai staff bend over backwards to accomodate me on my latest and all previous visits. the renovations and improvements (including pool and poolside area) completed over covid lock down have really given the place a polished beachfront boutique resort feel. food is outstanding 3 times a day with a good mix of indo and western and gorgeous smiling chef sanchi. great bar on premise hosted by a great local lad aka the number 2 barmen in nembrala obed, inclusive with view straight out to the surf so you can easily regret your call to crack an early starter. grounds have beautiful gardens throughout and my room had its own lovely private courtyard grassed area (should have taken the boss!). in terms of surf, dino has the place wired and boat access to longer range surf spots is definitely a bonus.
folks the days of having to do it rough around these parts are truly gone for better or worse!

We spent two weeks at this lovely hotel hosted by Dean and Sharon. It was the perfect spot away from the hustle and bustle of Bali. We had a lovely large room with a wonderful outdoor shower and a seating area overlooking the pool with the surf break behind. The room was cleaned daily and mosquito nets cover the beds. The hotel is small and quiet with plenty of comfortable seating areas for guests to hang out. The pool was a particular favourite of ours, a welcome break from the heat with lots of sun beds. The hotel bar is the perfect place to watch the sunset with a beer or a cocktail. The food is freshly prepared daily by the lovely chef. Utmost care is given to hygiene here. The food is served on a communal table - expect to leave your holiday having made good friends! Staff are all super polite and friendly and Dean and Sharon are super hosts, always on hand to help or advise on best time to surf! The surf break is directly in front of the hotel, with the hotel bar serving as the perfect place to watch the waves roll in. Accessibility to the break is very easy with the boat to and from the break always ready and available. We were travelling with our 6 month old baby and Rote island served as a lovely quieter alternative to the typically busier islands of Bali and Lombok. Locals are all very friendly and the area felt very safe. Thank you for having us. We can’t wait to come back!

Magnificent location, excellent diverse food from Indonesian to International cuisine that you will not find match on any restaurant; beautifully taken care gardens by the hands of Dino, your host and the best friend you will ever find in this God blessed part of the world . The resort is magnificent with beautiful Switzerland grade clean bungalows , powerful necessary AC and nice hot shower. Location foot steps distance from the warm waters of the Indian Ocean crystal clear waters. It will create on you the best sensations that you didn’t even know you had . Relax, enjoy the swimming pool, have a beer and see everything else in perspective : Big Aloha to all the Staff: Sharon , Santi, Randi , Obed and everyone else that made this November session everlasting unforgettable . Dean and Shaz, what can I say about the villa santai!! Everything.
My partner and I (32 & 27) - a novice surfer with a advanced surfer their was some waves for all. The break situated out the front of villa santai, you can pick what tide, wind and time to go out to the break with a boat easily accessed when you were ready to surf.
The organisation and ease of getting to Villa santai was also something to mention: flights had been cancelled from Kupang to Rote there and return. Deano & Shaz we’re so organised with these changes - arranging our transport and ferry and accommodation in Kupang with no hassle. Communicated everything to us so we were prepared to enjoy our stay. Changes that are usually stressful felt really easy with there assistance.
The accomodation: we booked the boa villa as a couple and found it really private with our own courtyard, great for mid day siestas and escaping the heat, the pool was a nice addition and after a dip in the big ocean you Could sit around the pool and enjoy the vibes. Santi and the team in the kitchen are so accomodation of dietary requests & the food was incredible. Fresh fish, fragrant veggies and some crowd favourites on a Friday night 😉
Scooter hire is easy way to see the island and something we loved having for freedom to see sites at our own pace
THe Bar: haha Deano and Shaz have made the villa santai an addition of home, very comfortable and the bar is a great place for a beer, a dance and chat.
Deano and Shaz helped with finding local Places and checking out areas of interest and made sure we got to see all that rote had to offer.

Having never been to Rote before I was recommended Villa Santai buy a good friend. To say it exceeded my expectations would be a massive understatement. I’ve been coming to Indonesia for over 25 years and have stayed in many establishments during that time, but I have never felt so at home and relaxed in such glorious surroundings. Dino, Sharon and the two dogs are literally the most welcoming hosts you could possibly imagine. My room was immaculate, charming, spacious and equipped with a fridge. All of the staff were fun, friendly and eager to help out. From the beautiful new swimming pool, to the sunset bar situated directly in front of the white sand beach leading to the epic T land all in one frame!!! Does it get much better than that! The boat and its driver were available at a moments notice to take me out to the break, from the crack of dawn until just before sunset. I can say hand on heart I will definitely be staying here again. Thank you very much Sharon, Dino and all of the crew at Villa Santai.

Villa Santai is everything you want from a family holiday. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by courteous staff and treated like VIP guests and friends. The rooms where clean and serviced daily by amazing ladies who quietly popped in and did their job. They even took great care in doing our washing. The food was delicious. Three cooked meals a day made from fresh local produce and prepared and serviced by amazing kitchen staff. The gardens and pool were well maintained. I visited with my husband and 2 daughters (15yo and 16yo) all of whom surf. A personalised guided tour to surf breaks by Dean and they were set. They enjoyed the freedom of having the boat boys at their beck and call!! I felt very safe on Rote and comfortable to explore the seaweed farm and shoreline by myself whilst the others surfed, or just relax with my book by the pool and in the cabana. Evening sunset drinks at the bar rounded off everyday with some playful banter with the Bar Boss. Besides surfing we enjoyed some snorkelling, swimming and checking out the local village, weekly market and seaweed farms. Dean and Sharon are wonderful hosts with plenty of local knowledge and Rote Island history. They organised everything from airport transfers, ferry tickets and accomodation in Kapung. Everything went smoothly. I couldn't recommend enough a visit to Rote Island and a stay with Dean and Sharon at Villa Santai. Both the girls wanted to stay for ever but we will be back.

Amazing Villa, fantastic owners/hosts at “the place to stay” for Roti Island, T Land-Nemberala . Dino and Sharon have a first class resort and their willingness to help and attention to detail is what made our stay fantastic. The staff are amazing, warm and welcoming, I have travelled to many luxury destinations and many five star hotels. Villa Santai provided us with the most amazing holiday and I highly recommend it to all travellers to the island.
Amazing Villa Santai, fantastic owners/hosts at “the place to stay” for Roti Island, T Land-Nemberala Beach. Before we arrived we had comprehensive instructions and check list with advice on travel options, surfing, tours and the accommodation. Sharon provided prompt and amazing support by answering any questions and provide info on the stay at Kupang in the Hotel La Husienda. All transfers and travel worked like clockwork and we arrived to a warm reception. Sharon and Dino were so helpful and accommodating making sure we had everything we needed.
Dino went above and beyond by organising tours and provided invaluable precise predictions of surf and weather. He was very generous of his time and local knowledge. He made sure we knew the options and tailored our personal guided tours passing on information about the island, villages, flora and fauna. His knowledge and openly given advice meant we maximised our time at Villa Santai. Dino even provided assistance with some reef rash and surf injuries ensuring we used proven techniques and medication to avoid infection, thank you so much.
Villa Santai has Impressive gardens, layout and pool with an idealistic ocean front view of the T Land reef and surf spots. The rooms are spotless well maintained and serviced daily. We stayed in the Bungalow and were very comfortable. Air conditioning is also available in other rooms.
The staff and barmen are warm and welcoming. Their English is fantastic and they enjoy passing on their languages used in Roti and Indonesia. The food is fantastic with varied daily meals which were more than we could eat. Obed the barman makes great cocktails and keeps you entertained with his good hearted jokes. His warm and keen nature is second to none and he always makes the guests feel totally satisfied.

Villa Santai is the best place to stay on Rote Island. Nothing else compares. If you want 3 delicious meals every day, a bar with the best barman and sunset view, immaculate pool and lounge area, comfortable and clean rooms, and a host that will get you into the best waves or fishing everyday then Villa Santai is the place to come. Forget the rest! My wife and I stayed for a week and we could not fault the service or facilities. Nearby massages, Yoga, Paddle Boarding, Snorkelling and epic surf everyday. All our needs were tended to, and we did not want to leave ... and like others we re-booked on our departure.
