If Glenwood Springs' history was a place, it would be Hotel Maxwell Anderson (formerly The Hotel Denver). Our walls tell the stories of the many travelers who've visited our hotel over the past 100 years, reveling in its unexpected touches, old-world hospitality, and unrivaled mountain views. Every room has been completely renovated and updated with modern bathrooms, plush new bedding, and modern amenities, balanced by the charm of the exposed brick and antique accents of our 100-year-old hotel. We've also added several new suites so you can stay in style.

We stayed here for one night while roadtripping through Colorado and this was such a great hotel! The location is great as it's very close to restaurants and breweries and there's free parking at the hotel, which is a nice surprise. Our bed was very comfortable and the water pressure was great in the shower. We really liked the decor and it was just a really nice room overall. We would definitely stay here again while visiting Glenwood Springs!

Spur of the moment trip to Glenwood for a soak. Stayed at the Hotel Colorado before and seen enough Hampton/Courtyard/Holiday inns over the years to know what they have. Decided to book a room at the hotel Denver for a change. I reserved a "Colorado" room, basically a premium room that was only $40 more than their lowest offering and put in the booking notes "quiet room". Check in was at 2pm, earlier than most in the area, and check out was 11am. Front desk staff was very friendly when I checked in and informed me of their towels and discounts for Hot Springs visits. We got our towels and 10% discount for the new facility, Iron Mountain Hot Springs. A good soak and dinner at the Pullman (really good food) set us up for a restful night. Thanks Hotel Denver for a nice little getaway.

I located this hotel on the internet and booked a one night stay based off the photos on their web page and reading some of the reviews. As I walked in the hotel I was immediately greeted by my last name front the front desk clerk John. John was very professional and friendly. That is customer service! I was checked in within minutes. My room was not a typical hotel room it felt more like a room in your house which was nice and cozy. The room was very clean and neat. The appearance of the hotel inside and out was very nice and located next to several restaurants and they are attached to Glenwood Canyon Brewery which is also nice. I highly recommend this hotel and I will be back!!

We splurged $ on this hotel for its history and location alone. This is the hotel from where you have direct access to the the train depot (simply cross the street). All the rest of the hotels are barely within walking distance of downtown. The lobby is extremely small but I appreciate how its retained some of the original architecture. We've stayed in many other historical hotels, and they generally have modernized their amenities and bathrooms, which was unfortunately not the case at the Hotel Denver. We had a very big room with two queen beds but the bathroom was way too small and outdated. For its price point, there weren't those luxury details like expensive bedding, an expresso machine or high-end toiletries. It was quite charming to use a real hotel key for the first time in decades and it would be adorable if the Hotel Denver offered a replica fob from way back when. We were very happy with its proximity to downtown, however, and the staff was very nice.

Flew from AK to CO for a whirlwind 48 hour trip to see my sister and 11 yo niece..... it had been a while since we’d seen each other. My sister picked me up from my all night flight with a suprise itinerary to Glenwood Springs.it was a gorgeous drive to the adventure park where we toured the caves and rode the rides with a plan to quick check into our hotel before our soak and vapor caves at Yampah Spa. We pull up to the Hotel Denver and I am so impressed. It’s beautiful! We check in and the woman at the front desk announces that we cannot go into our King Room as there were 3 of us and hotel policy forbids 3 in a room. She offered us a 2nd king suite at an additional $250 for one of us and announced that they were not a “chain hotel” in a not so subtle dig at what she may have imagined our tastes to encompass. I almost thought it was like a candid camera type moment as I could not imagine we were actually being turned out into the street????? It was bizarre, unexpected, and disappointing. Luckily after driving around a bit we happened upon the Hotel Glenwood Springs with gracious staff and excellent customer service! Similar price point. So the snobby woman at the desk on 4-24-21 at around 4:30 did NOT ruin our girls adventure and we are now getting ready to go to the Iron Mountain Springs before our trip back to Boulder and then my flight back to Alaska tomorrow after a comfortable night at the Hotel Glenwood Springs. So a great ending to a tenuous story where poor customer service did NOT spoil our trip! I will however forever have a bad taste for the Hotel Denver!

Response from Roger Smith, General Manager at Hotel Maxwell Anderson

Dear 408nickia, I want to apologize for your experience at the Hotel Denver and thank you for your feedback. While we do have very strict policies on the number of people per room at the Hotel Denver, I'm sorry to see how my staff made you feel. By sheer coincidence, I am also the General Manager at the Hotel Glenwood Springs and I'm happy to see you had a memorable time at this property. All of my staff at both properties are trained in the same manner, and I will be using this feedback as a training tool for the future. Please reach out to me directly if there is anything else I can do to be of service. Sincerely, Roger Smith Hotel Denver - Operations Manager Hotel Glenwood Springs - General Manager

This likely is the best place in Glenwood Springs. The service is good including daily room cleaning, the coffeehouse on site is frenetic but fine and the rooms good enough. I was surprised that being so close to I-70 the hotel proved so quiet. The rest of Glenwood looks like chains and broken down older hotels, including the Springs, which looks set to topple onto the Highway. How can anyone find anything about the hot springs relaxing with trucks rumbling by?! If this hotel were closer to a major city it would earn three stars, it’s just a bit rough round the edges, like huge televisions overpowering rooms, but for this town, stay here.

Have been staying here for years, last time I reviewed I gave it 5 stars. Used to love this hotel. Had to downgrade from 5 stars to 3. Not sure what has happened, but the amenities are not what they used to be. Feels like they have had a change in ownership.
Paid for a premium room, but was given the smallest room I have ever had here. Not much more space than a closet. Should not have been in the premium category.
The bathroom floor did not look like it had been thoroughly cleaned in a while. There were urine salts under the waste basket next to the toilet. The floor in the room had greasy food residue left from the prior tenants. Probably just ran a vacuum over the wood floor.
Parking used to be free, they now charge $20 per day (in my opinion, that's pretty steep for a small town.)
They no longer offer pool passes (they seem to be in bed with Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Amusement Park, and are aggressively pushing those venues.)
Liked coming up during the week, but Wednesdays and Thursdays are now completely booked by the Rocky Mountaineer. Can no longer book a mid-week stay. Apparently they book all the premium rooms, which were still being cleaned when we got there on Friday. Consequently, even though you are now coming up on the weekend you still get what's left over.
To top it off, the weekend we were there, they were holding drag races in the street next to the Hotel at 2:30 AM. So much for the quiet mountain town.
Probably won't be going back, there are other places to stay in Glenwood. I have heard that they re-did all of the rooms at Hotel Colorado. Might be worth another look.

We stayed at the Hotel Denver for 2 nights. The room was beautiful, furnished with antiques. This was the start of a 10 day road trip through Colorado. The restaurant/bar/grill in the hotel was good. Mostly we loved the location, and how easy it was to walk to other restaurants, stores, etc. Staff was professional, if not overly friendly. Could not have asked for a better start to our journey. The view from our room over the Hot Springs and the Depot and the mountains beyond was breathtaking, especially to this flat lander. We

Posted this review on google too, but have to warn folks so they can be aware of what might happen staying here if the stars align badly for you like they did for us.

Had to pull the ripcord on a truly hellacious experience at Hotel Denver tonight. While I’m a longtime dog owner, the hotel’s pet policy failed it today. There was a guest(s) who left their dog in their room and the dog was barking non-stop into the night and could be heard everywhere on the 3rd floor due to the hard floors that created an echo chamber. Our 6 and 9 year old couldn’t sleep, so we checked out and had to find another hotel in Glenwood late at night. The front desk staff were apologetic, but unable to do anything due to rules they said that prevent them from entering the room. The jackhole guests were not responding to the calls from the hotel either. I don’t know what to really say about the place. The rooms were nice, but if the pet policy creates the potential for a situation like this to perpetuate, and you can’t sleep there, what good is decor or location. If it was a loud person, they would be able to send someone up to address it. This was like someone leaving a siren on in a room and the hotel was unable to do anything about it. To the jackholes who were in room 302 with the poorly trained dog…..you’re lousy people. Got a refund at least, but would never book a room there again. Really upsetting to me because we have a dog who doesn’t bark when left alone, and people like the ones in 302 ruin it for everyone else. If your dog has that issue, get a pet sitter and leave them at home. It’s not like it’s a cheap place and they couldn’t have afforded to do that.

We took the Amtrak train to Glenwood for a 3 night stay. Literally walked across the street and checked into the hotel with a very friendly and efficient staff member.

We walked everywhere from this hotel. Even to City Market (0.7 miles away) to get some waters. Excellent restaurants are all around the hotel. Even the attached Brew Pub had outstanding Fish & Chips & their own veggie burger. Again, very friendly staff members.

We stayed in a corner room which had plenty of natural light - and black-out curtains for sleeping in.

We will likely stay here again on our next getaway to Glenwood!

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. If you want convenience or to avoid the weather, give it a shot. We are there in October and found the food average and adequate but not special. Glenwood Springs is small, and you can walk to 15 other restaurants in under 5 minutes.

Is there an extra charge for pets in the room??
Answer from Roxie M
We are a very pet friendly hotel and do not charge a fee when traveling with your furry companions. We have a policy sheet for you to review and register your pup upon you arrival. Most of the Hotel is pet friendly with only a few rooms/sections that don't allow pets. Feel free to call the hotel: 800.826.8820 to ensure you have booked a pet friendly room, as we do like to know and collect the pets name to ensure they feel welcome while staying here with us also.

I have allergies to dogs. Do you offer pet free rooms?
Answer from Roxie M
We have accommodations to support everyone's needs. We have a variety of pet free offerings: Our Denver Rooms are 100% PET FREE and are in our Eastern Side of the Hotel. These rooms offer a single queen or single King Size bed in the room. We also have 2 of our Colorado Rooms that are Pet Free, and also added a new Ground Floor of 5 rooms all a little different that are Pet Free as well. We highly recommend calling us to make your reservation as the more knowledge we have we are then better able to cherry pick the perfect room for you and your traveling companions. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you plan your next escape from reality!
