A charming old hotel right on the edge of downtown, so an easy walk to shops, train & restaurants. Antique decor in lobby and room, but updated bathroom which I like. My teenage son was not thrilled, but my parents would love it. Room was small and had no windows which felt a bit odd, but still comfortable. Very friendly...

We loved the charm of this hotel, from the oldest running elevator in the state of Colorado, to the stately, elegant sitting rooms and lobby. But beware - rooms are small, quite a bit of noise from the street and AC not operating at all. But if you like staying in a place that will remind you of bygone eras,...

This was our first trip to Durango, and I was very pleased with our stay at the General Palmer. We had an Executive King room facing the front of the hotel. Our room was clean and generously sized, The bed was very comfortable and the towels and amenities were excellent. The price of the rooms was very reasonable. The front...

The General Palmer's 1898 Victorian era exterior intrigued me when I first saw it and the front desk experience captured my heart. The desk clerks, Sharon and Logan, treated new arrivals as well as incoming calls with genuine warmth. Sharon volunteered and I accepted her offer to explain the choices of amenities to my clients and then individually checked each...

We had a very good stay. Yes the hotel is old but that is part of the charm. Elevator was small but not difficult to use as there was a hook to hold it open which was explained to us. Location is excellent, right next to the railroad station but also very quiet. The rooms were very clean and had...

The most important thing one needs to know about this Hotel is that you are charged a non-refundable 70% of the total price when you complete your reservation and the remaining amount 7 days prior to your arrival. This is not clearly stated on the website; Booking even has a felonious “free cancellation” quoted on their site for this Hotel....

My wife and I recently stayed at The General Palmer Hotel as an overnight stop on our way to Denver. We chose the Hotel because of its location in downtown Durango. We were pleased with the location, as it is located within walking distance to restaurants, the supermarkets, a movie theater, the river walk, and the train tourist attraction. On...

We stayed 3 nights at the General Palmer and enjoyed our time in this restored Hotel. We had a room on the 3d floor, facing Main Street, and did not find it excessively noisy. We did like being downtown, able to walk to the shops and restaurants, and the Victorian decor of the hotel is just what we like. The...

My husband & I found this place by chance, and when I tell you we fell in love with it instantly, I'm not exaggerating. Located in the heart of town, the rooms are beautifully decorated & extremely comfortable. And the location is perfect! Step out the front door and you're on the main street. Walk down the street and you'll...

The General Palmer Hotel worked out perfectly for us. The rooms are nice, and beds comfortable. The place is charming and staff are friendly. Great location, close and to the railroad terminal. We would stay there again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rich with Victorian elegance, the General Palmer Hotel has all the modern comforts that you would expect of a Four Diamond establishment. Named after General William Jackson Palmer who established the hotel in 1898, the General Palmer is the only historical Four Diamond Hotel in Southwestern Colorado. Each room has been hand decorated in the Victorian era with luxurious amenities. It’s the little touches that make the General Palmer unique; freshly baked muffins each morning and Teddy Bears on every bed.
