Detailed Reviews
WestWall continues to get better and better. BEn is a fantastic manager for this property and his attention to his guests is appreciated. The property is a great value in a ski world that continues to get more expensive each year. After 42 years of skiing a host of locations, I can honestly say Crested Butte is a great value and has it all.

We have stayed here many times. Love it! Everyone’s friendly. Great location! You are practically on the slopes. The bar at the front lobby is a great gathering space, provides warm, fresh cookies every afternoon. Front desk is friendly and helps with anything needed. My only complaint (I think I say this every year) is everything shuts down around 7-8pm, hot tub etc.

We are long-time Vail skiers (>40 years) but had become disillusioned by the whole Vail scene. So it seemed that a trip to “not Vail” was in order! Crested Butte has a reputation of being an authentic town with real people and a great mountain, but where to stay? Westwall Lodge looked to be ideally located, and based on an extended phone call with Ben (Manager), we made the decision last spring for skiing this year! We will be checking out tomorrow after a wonderful stay, and already thinking about coming back in the summer! A couple of highlights for the skiers:
1. They have their own lift you access by waliking out the back door
2. They have an on site ski rental service that puts your skis outside the door in the morning and brings them back in at the end of the day
3. There is a locker room to store and warm your boots
Most importantly this review is to recognize Ben. Things don’t always go smoothly, but Ben was there to fix them! We were so impressed with him when we called for initial information, but even more impressed how he and his staff went out of the way to make our stay perfectly wonderful!!
THANK YOU!

We just spent 2 nights at WestWall. Very attractive property and furnishings with hot tub and small pool. We were disappointed that they provided no bathrobes, q-tips or cotton pads in bathroom. A couple of light bulbs were out and sink in bathroom did not drain properly. Guest book clearly stated daily towel, trash and bed service but when we called to say room not serviced front desk said required 24 hour notice. No coffee available in lobby in early morning and no decaffeinated available at all.

I made last minute plans and decided to stay at the West Wall Lodge. Within an hour of my reservation, my fiancés flight from Denver to Gunnison was canceled, so she flew into Montrose. I called West Wall back immediately to tell them I had to drive 2 hours to pick her up, so we were just going to stay the night in Montrose (stayed the night at the beautiful Bridges Golf and Country Club). Now I completely understand that my room was "non refundable", but come on. $455 (w/tax) for a room that wasn't even used....in the off season nonetheless, and only offering an unspecified "discount" the next time I stay, is pretty poor customer service. I would have been happy with a partial credit or even a voucher towards a future nights stay. I frequent my brothers house in Mount CB several times a year, but I can guarantee I won't be back to West Wall to use my "discount". LOTS of other places just as nice

Great lodge and outstanding customer service. The lodge/condo was luxurious, well equipped with outstanding views. We had C204, it was labeled as “neighborhood views” The views were down valley but of the mountain range opposite of Mt Crested Butte. We spent most evenings on the deck with this view. Someone mentioned earlier that there weren’t many chairs (loungers) at the pool…there we 5. It didn’t matter because there was never more than 2 people out there all week. One evening we asked the front desk about restaurants nearby. He checked, noticed none were open (6:00pm) and offered to go down into town and pick up dinner! The lodge is about a 1/2 mile walk up to the base/restaurants (when open) and the 2 chair lifts. Great hikes right out the door.

Westwall went out of their way for our quick trip. We have long time ties to Vail and Steamboat. This was our first trip to Crested Butte and staying at Westwall made our trip well worth the drive. This is a beautiful lodge. The accomodations were outstanding. Pool, hot tub and fire are is beautiful. Only downfall, was there were little to no chairs to enjoy this area. Understandable due to covid, however just visiting Vail the previous week, one of the best places to enjoy time was pool side. It was very welcoming. We were not able to spend time in this area due to lack of seating arrangement. Everything else was outstanding.

Looks are deceiving at this lodge as the service stinks! We came to crested butte for the first and last time due to the unacceptable accommodations.
There was no one answering the phone for reservations so we drove here anyway. There was no one here when we arrived and since we booked online to make sure we had a room we had to wait. We were put in a suite which looked nice but when we returned after dinner discovered all the towels were soaking in the washer. Housekeeping obviously did not finish the room and this is where we have to sleep but cannot shower. We washed our hands with shower gel as there is no soap and dried with Kleenex!
We cannot get the bedroom TV to work and were not shown how. The front desk closes at 8pm and Ken gave me his phone number but he doesn't answer. He did not give us the code for the garage so we had to park outside. And this morning it is pouring rain so we will get soaked getting to our car. This experience has to be the worst hotel experience ever at any price. We could have paid a lot less and had towels. How do we know the sheets are even clean? Yuck, get me outta here.

Checked into the West Wall Lodge on June 20, 2019. Only one person on staff, Dan, who was very nice. We rented a three bedroom condo which still had Christmas decorations up. No air-conditioning, heat in each room that could not be turned off, a very musty smell, beds that were so high to get into that my wife had to sleep on the couch. The coffee machine in the kitchen was inoperable so we went to the lobby for promised coffee and there was no one at the front desk and NO COFFEE!! Maintenance man came and could not get heat turned off. Provided a fan that would not work. We moved after one night to the Elevation Hotel which was excellent and also had a very good restaurant [West Wall has no restaurant]. We paid much less for a room there as well. West Wall lodge has promised a refund on my credit card, but so far five days later no credit has appeared. I feel that this Lodge should not be open at all in the non-skiing months since they provide almost no service.

Response from WestWall L, Manager at WestWall Lodge
Responded 1 Jul 2019
Hi Jack, We apologize for the heat situation in the unit you stayed in, it has been repaired. We moved the rest of your party to a different unit the next day, and based on their feedback, they were happy with their new accommodations. Our website clearly states that we only have staff available from 8 am to 8 pm each day, and that these hours are shortened in the off-season. Coffee was provided to you at 8:30 am, when our coffee service begins (also listed on the website). Your card was refunded today, and we explained why there would be a delay when you left the property. When your sister checked in and mentioned that your wife has physical limitations we offered to bring a rollaway bed to your unit because it is very low to the ground. She said that was not necessary and asked for a step stool, which was provided to you. We truly wish you would have contacted us via phone or email before your arrival so we could have worked with you towards a solution to that issue. As far as the Christmas decorations go, they were minimal (not a tree). All of our residences are individually owned and the owners can decorate them however they want. We wish the WestWall Lodge could have been a better fit for you and your wife, but I am glad you were able to find more suitable accommodations for your needs elsewhere.

My wife and I have stayed at WestWall multiple times and each time we thought it couldn't get better, Ben and Lainy seemed to surpass our expectations. The overall site is spotless, access to the base area is a ten minute walk and the workout facility is clear with modern equipment. Ben and Lainy truly understand that they are in the service industry, always available and accommodating. We have been spoiled and won't be staying anywhere else.
