Detailed Reviews
This is an older hotel just west of downtown Colorado Springs in an older neighborhood. The staff was VERY friendly going out of their way to please us. Being an older property, it had a few issues but evidence of remodeling work was apparent. There is an onsite restaurant with a very limited menu.
One big concern I had was security and safety. The last night we were there, I was looking for something out of my vehicle in the dark parking lot. I was approached by 2 people trying to pan handle some money. Fortunately, they went on their way but given the darkness and no barrier between the street and neighborhood, it could easily have gone bad.

My mom, kids and I stayed here on Aug. 8th-9th. When we arrived at the hotel my first impression was I was going to be disappointed, the hotel is dated, the hallways are also dated. But once inside the lobby it was very nice and clean, the staff were very friendly and my room was a nice sized room and very clean ( we walked around on the carpet and our feet did not turn black). The beds were comfortable and they put more than two pillows on it for you.Outside of our room was a gazebo and tables and chairs placed in different places. It was beautiful out there as well as a nice quiet place to sit or let the kids play (it's fenced in so the kids can't get out). The pool and hottub were clean as well. The breakfast area is big, they have alot of seating. The breakfast was good, with waffles, eggs, biscuits and gravy and other various items. I will definitely stay at this hotel again as well as recommend it to others.

My daughter and I stayed at this property for two nights.
My understanding is that Clarion has not owned this property for very long. If it were a house, one would call it a “fixer upper.” The public areas (lobby, restaurant) were clean, well-appointed and met my expectations for a Clarion property. However, the hallway areas were clearly undergoing remodeling, the elevator was beat-up (although it worked) and the ice machine we passed on the way to our room was out of order.
Our room was below my expectations. While it was very clean (the most important factor for me), it clearly needed additional rehabilitation. The light fixture between the beds was hanging off its bracket, the cover had popped off the fire alarm, there was a light out in the bathroom and the toilet ran constantly until I fixed it. We had very weak, essentially unusable wireless internet access from our room.
Breakfast was served in a large, open restaurant area. A wide selection of items was offered, including a hot buffet. However, the alcohol heaters under the hot items had expired and the eggs, etc. were no longer hot. As we arrived, the staff was replacing the heaters but that should have been done earlier.
The staff was friendly and professional.
Overall, it was a clean and quiet place. We read the negative TripAdvisor reviews but took a chance on this hotel because (1) it appeared Clarion was trying to improve the property and (2) it was relatively inexpensive compared to other places we considered in Colorado Springs. I rate it "3" instead of "2" because I think Clarion is making an effort to remedy the deficiencies. We might stay there again if we were in the area.

WHAT A MISERABLE SERIES OF EXPERIENCES ALL PACKED INTO ONE NIGHT's STAY...
As a business traveler who stays in hotels an average of twice per week, I see a LOT of hotels across the country. I booked the Clarion Colorado Springs because it was in close proximity to the location at which I was to do business. It is also close to "downtown."
What a mistake.
I arrived very late (midnight) and exhausted from my flight. I checked in (non-problematic) but the clerk must have been new and didn't fully know the hotel and how to direct me to my room or an elevator, but gave me a map. He was kind....just not able to provide normal service due to his newness.
Had to climb up 3 flights of stairs with luggage in this strangely laid out hotel (a tri-level type with a half-submerged basement/1st floor) and the elevator never really brought you to the right floor because no matter what floor you started on, you always still had a 1/2 flight of stairs to climb (with your bags) to get to the lobby because of this strange layout.
Very frustrating.
The hallways are SO tired looking---ratty carpet, seams on wallpaper are all splitting and separating very badly and very consistently. The whole place is just something leftover from the early 80's without any thought to renovation, maintenance, or paint--aside from the lobby which looked teasingly nice.
Went to my room and was going to use the bathroom---BUT there was a wet and filthy washcloth on the rack---very obviously there from the previous guest. There was only 2 towels in the room..and the bathroom had obviously not yet been cleaned. It was as if the maid started and then never finished. Gross!
I called the front desk and explained my dilemma---and the gentleman said, "Well do you want me to let housekeeping know about it in the morning?"
Are you kidding?
I do not want to stay in an uncleaned room with dirty linens for the night! No! So I was the one who had to ask/suggest I get another room. He gave one to me, thankfully. This time 3 floors away---more climbing again with all of my things. It's now nearly 1am. I have a business meeting at 7am. He did offer to help me carry them, which was kind.
I went to my new room in the "basement" of this hotel. (Room was half underground/half above ground...so the window was in the upper part of the wall. ) I tried to lock the door but the deadbolt was not working at all. I only had the swing-bar latch that allows the door to be cracked open as the lock. Better than nothing---but given that this hotel was in a marginal area of town already (I had no idea until I got here), I really didn't like the idea that I only had that as protection-- given that I am female traveling alone.
At this point it's so late and I am so tired I just "called it good" and went to bed. I got up the next morning to get ready---and the hair dryer didn't work at all. Maintenance was called and thankfully another was brought to me----but still, these things should be checked regularly for functionality. I was on tight timelines and it just added to my increasing frustration with this hotel.
I left the hotel and came back in the afternoon. Went to my room--but my door key no longer worked. I drag all my belongings all the way up to the front desk again (up more stairs) and ask for a new key. I headed back to my room and as I passed by the vending machine a VERY dirty, creepy and frightening looking man in his 40's appears from the tucked away vending area (about 15' from my room), approaches me as I pass by. He looked like bad news.
He began to talk to me in an odd way--very unsettling. I tried to avoid/ignore him and continue to head to my room but he began following me close behind....so I quickly turned around and headed back down the long hallway and up the stairs in the direction of the lobby. The hallway is about 75-100' in length---but as I turned around to glance back once I reached the stairway, I noticed he had stopped squarely in the middle of the hallway and was watching me the entire time I walked away. When I glanced at him, he stared right back and stood there. Chilling.
Needless to say I was afraid to go back down that hallway in what felt like a basement--let alone into my room that won't lock!
So I went back to the desk and requested to checkout of this awful, dirty, tired, and now unsafe hotel....but was told that I may be charged for another night because I didn't check out in time (it was 4pm when I requested checkout, given this new creepy development.)
I explained my multiple frustrating experiences to the clerk, but that did not seem to override the fact that I was checking out after normal hours. I hadn't even touched my room following maid service that day---as I couldn't get to it due to the creep downstairs!
After many moments and my reiteration of the faulty door lock, the dirty room, the broken drier, the key issue, the creepy man, and the fact I hadn't even been there 24 hours yet......they finally said that I wouldn't have to pay for the 2nd night. GEE..you would THINK that not only refraining from charging me for a night I hadn't yet used, they would have credited me for the original night, given my miserable experiences! I barely even got an apology--but did get a half-hearted one at the end.
I am one of the most understanding, flexible people there are---and I hate to cause a stink about anything---but my goodness! This was awful!
I will never, ever return to that hotel and I sincerely encourage anyone considering it to stay elsewhere. I wound up going across the highway and am now staying at the Hilton Antler Inn. More money, but my health and wellbeing are worth it at this point. It's nice--I feel safe and 100% more comfortable.
Thank you.

I stayed at the LeBaron hotel overnight while in Colorado Springs for a job interview. I was totally disappointed in this hotel. The rooms weren’t very appealing, and the bathroom was very undersized and had some problems. The toilet didn’t work – and ended up “running” all night. The sink didn’t have a plug, which can cause some difficulty if you need to put in contact lenses. I was led to believe that I would get a buffet breakfast, but when I went down the following morning there wasn’t any food. I ended up having to buy some toast and coffee. I definitely would not stay at this hotel again.

I booked at this hotel because of the decent price and good reviews. Upon arrival, the lobby is updated but the rest of the hotel was in desperate need of upkeep and paint. The hallways are dark and dingy, and quite creepy. Our room (which was "upgraded" to a junior suite) although clean, was very outdated - even the sheets were old and pilled - and had a noticeable odor of previous smoking. The breakfast is your standard free hotel breakfast. Nothing to talk about, really.
You can imagine my surprise of all of the good (and some rave) reviews of recent stays... until I received an email from them with this included: "For taking the time to give us a Positive Review I would like to send you aFree Night Voucher at our hotel for a future stay or 2,000 Choice Privilege points and an upgrade to a Gold Choice Privilege Membership." AH HA! THAT explaines all the great recent reviews!
Needless to say, I will not be receiving a free night, nor Choice Privilege Points in my near future. I refuse to give this hotel any more than a 1 star (wish I could give 0).

Was skeptical on this place given the reviews I had read on this site. Since the reservation was made by others, I decided to give it a go. The lobby lives up to its charm and was done very nicely with nice sitting areas, a fireplace, and good lighting. Unfortunately that is were the niceness ended. The rooms were dingy, bed was uncomfortable, and it is difficult to tell where the smoking/non smoking section begins/ends. Quite frankly the place smelled bad. The help in the cafe was busy making crude jokes to the "regulars" and the Dennys across the street had plenty of riff raff and prostitutes hanging about. Not the impression I expected. I wouldn't stay here again if my life depended on it. Spend alittle more and get out of that neighborhood!

Lobby is beautiful and impressive, our room was neither. There were problems with our TV (they were fixed quickly), the air conditioner was very noisy, the bathroom was dingy and while we were close enough to walk to the downtown area, the neighborhood made us very uncomfortable after dark. We will not be staying there again until the rooms are upgraded.

Having lived overseas for 30+ years, I have had to stay in hotels that ran the gamete when it came to ratings and standards. I chose this less than mediocre place because it was convenient to my appointments. My room had outdated damask wallpaper peeling around the a/c unit. The wood trim on the armoire was dangling. Several tiles were missing the the bathroom. The carpet was filthy, including several large black spots. The blankets smelled. The channels on the cable tv were very limited; there was not even CNN. The grounds have been totally neglected. The place looked like a lower class housing project with weeds growing in the parking lot, between the cracks in the sidewalk and in areas that were supposed to be flower beds. Aesthetically, it was anything but pleasant. It seems management turns a blind eye to the condition of the property.
I am not a cheapskate, and I don't mind paying a decent rate for decent lodging; however, the condition of the hotel doesn't warrant the nightly charge.
The one positive was the front desk staff. They were very helpful!

Upon arrival we thought we were entering a construction site. The hallways were dusty with the light fittings hanging off the walls and a very dirty elevator. If told this before arrival we would have booked at a different location. The carpet in our room was dirty and worn -the tv didn't work as the dish was out of service - the hand towel had toothpaste on it and it wasn't mine! The service at breakfast was very poor and the eggs were cold.
All we received was a sorry!!

Wow! This was very much NOT my experience. They did not ask where we were from when reserving a room (although we are from out of state) and never had any rude experiences, booking, checking in, etc. actually, they were quite helpful during the reservation call and when we checked in and needed to find a place to get a bite to eat. I did call the hotel directly when booking (not N 800#), as I always do. Not sure if that may have made a difference for you. I do know it was made clear it was a no smoking facility (no weed) which was one of the reason I chose this place. I am sorry your experience was negative. We had a great time and it was conveniently located for Garden of the Gods as well as Pikes Peak..
