Crazy great place. We had gone on this trip winging it for hotels between Denver and Page Arizona. Incredibly this place had an open room as it is too cool to miss. The manager called us back after making the reservation from the road since the canyon in would be completely closed to traffic overnight and if we were not in line at the 45 minute sop light into the canyo already it was a 4 hour drive around and not worth coming. Fortunately we were there and arrived at dusk. They were having a birthday party and cake in the lobby for an employee and asked us if we wanted some. They all seemed to know who we were cuz they all knew only one room was left. Light but adequate continental breakfast in morning and this wa w pretty wonderful find for a random last minute overnight stay. /we will go for a longer stay in the future. Bar closes early and is a big OFF road area and rental place next door. Lots of wild life and an amazing place for the remoteness. They had a reunion coming in and positing list of live music on weekends. This is not su much a road stop as a place to go we just got lucky.

Lodge was perfect place to stay for Thanksgiving. Family’s cabin was full with family & kids so we stayed at lodge. Checkin with Sky good, room very comfortable. Gas fireplace in room was very rewarding - instant cozy heat! Coffee was available downstairs in lobby (one my favorites in a hotel). Breakfast available all day. Shower, towels & toilet paper very good! Excellent stay!

We stayed here one night as we were headed to the north rim of Black Canyon. Wished we had more time here but the real activity is snowmobiles or 4X4’s. Stayed in the “Elk” room and loved it. Great facilities, friendly staff and good and reasonably priced dinner. The 5 mile gravel road was smooth and of no problem for our Honda Civic. Would not hesitate to stay again—and rent a 4X4.

We were visiting the Black Canyon of the Gunnison (reviewed by me separately) and stayed at the Arrowhead during the night between the North Rim and South Rim visits. Arrowhead is a beautiful small (12 rooms) mountain lodge accessed by a mountain dirt road leaving Hwy 50 half way between Montrose and Gunnison. The rooms are beautiful, all in wood and with pretty mountain views (including wildlife!!). The restaurant was warm and with a friendly atmosphere and good food!! Breakfast was waiting for us in a few refrigerators with clear labels on them and we helped ourselves....Very tasty!!. Wonderful Experience!! Great Hotel!!

I would have given a better rating, but there was just too much cigarette smoke coming up from the back of the kitchen. My room was a unit above it. The employees were constantly out there smoking and chatting, so I was unable to keep my window open for fresh mountain air. Instead, it smelled of cigarette smoke every time I tried to open a window. Plus the chit chat of employees, some of which was foul language, was not appropriate. My room was in the back of the hotel, overlooking the employee parking lot. Besides the constant smoking and resulting smell of cigarettes, the view was ruined because of all of the junk laying around everywhere! I understand this is a funky mountain inn, but at least try to put the wood scraps and stuff out of view of paying customers? Maybe try to improve the 'view' a bit for the price that is paid? There was also a lot of noise coming from the back, like an industrial fan or something. It wasn't peaceful and I had to sleep with earplugs, which is ironic, considering this place is somewhat remote. The land around the hotel is great and wildlife is abundant. I ate a basic meal at their restaurant. The service was good and the pricing was fair. One other thing I would improve is the lighting inside the room. You had a choice of a cheap, harsh light above the door, or one miniscule light across the bed that was not bright. There was no bed-side light adequate for reading. I would stay here again if the opportunity presents itself. I appreciate that they are dog-friendly. I would just hope for a better room that isn't above the kitchen. It's too bad so many hotels say they are dog-friendly, charge you extra, but then they give you the least desirable room.

This was our second visit to AML. The grounds and lodge were wonderful. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. The room was perfect - microwave, fridge, fireplace. The breakfast was hearty - a great way to start the day. Having the on-site restaurant is a bonus.

Set back in the mountains, if you are looking for a country experience that is totally one of a kind with super friendly people then this is the place. They give you ample warning about the 5 mile dirt road to get to their lodge, but that is part of the charm. However being able to sleep at night is important. We were in the “fishing” room. Outside but against the building was some machine that ran until 2:30 am. It sounded like something tumbling metal lawn chairs around. My husband went out to the car to get his noise canceling head phones and I took a sleeping pill. I’m stuck writing a negative review about such a cute lodge but we had a lot of driving to do and needed a good nights sleep. Great dinner, music Saturday night, great breakfast, cute room, I just couldn’t go back.

The five-mile dirt-road was in good condition and even my Toyota sedan made it up with ease. I got to the lodge and found it very nice, comfortable, and clean. The room was great. The restaurant far exceeded my expectations and all the staff I met were very friendly, kind, and helpful.
