Clean room with nice breakfast options everyday. Big bed and bath with really hot water! Parking is available for scooters or cars. One bad thing was that our safe was broken so we couldn’t use it and the hotel didn’t do anything about that when we complained. The island is still developing and you are in nature so there were spiders and centipedes in our room, which is make my husband kill. But it’s to be expected in such a remote part of the world. Not many dinner options nearby, just two or three tiny restaurants. So, if you don’t have transportation you are kind of stuck with those options.

Before getting to the hotel and during our stay, Noldan was more than helpful and thanks to him we were able to enjoy this Fantasy Island!! The beach front hotel had the perfect location and the staff made us feel like home. The rate included a big breakfast, spacious room with all the comfort we wanted. I only wished we had more time at this beautiful island!!

This resort was a delightful island respite from a world beset by COVID, climate change, crime and corruption. Except for loud music 2 km distant on Saturday night, the only sounds were the birds and the prevailing easterly winds blowing from the east off of Lake Nicaragua. Upon our ferry boat arrival my friends and I were met by an island taxi driver who drove the forty minutes to our east-facing resort—not a small island—where we were met by a charming Carlos who directed us to our room then sent me about ten links on What’s App as to our food and activity options. Life is rustic on Ometepe Island, but there are places to enjoy a hot, tasty dinner and one of those places is the Hotel Paraiso since the Xalli resport only serves breakfast. You can order your food for a room delivery, but be prepared to pay in cash. In fact, everything on this island except the actual hotel stay requires cash only…the taxis, the take-out food, the chocolate factory. The other place that will accept your credit card is the hotel paraiso where we enjoyed dinner twice. My friends stayed in a room next to mine in a building that might be called a bungalow or casita…just two rooms that each featured a modern air conditioning unit, television and comfortable king-size bed. Water pressure is mild, but heated and Carlos told me that water comes from a pipe that runs from the lake on top of one of the two island volcanos! The TV was almost antithetical to a quiet island experience but it’s there if you really want to watch the CNN news. My friends enjoyed their Nicaraguan programs. Our building was about 25 meters from the lakefront. We swam for at least thirty minutes with wind blown waves that resembled the ocean, but without the salt! Remember, this is a lake although once a part of the Pacific Ocean before earthquakes and plate tectonics closed it off from the ocean. When were weren’t swimming or playing pool in the main building, we walked to that other hotel for dinner on a road that looked like something the Romans would’ve built. Imagine a road built completely with paver stones, fit together like puzzle pieces with NO potholes like those found on asphalt or even concrete roadways. This type roadway ran from the ferry boat all the way to our hotel and was dominated by people, motorcycles, bicycles. horses, cattle, dogs and the occasional auto or truck. The island dogs are an ugly inbred mongrel population that often stop by your room to pay you a visit and they all look the same—ugly faces and a body that doesn’t resemble any other dog breed you’ve seen before! After darkness fell we walked the 1.5 km back to our hotel along the beachfront as I felt that would be safer than the open road which it certainly was. Walking will save you from paying the $20 taxi fee that everyone charges or you could rent a car on the mainland and make your car reservation on the ferry boat….too complicated for me! My guests and I left this charming, though not quite a paradise, island with fond memories and a few ant bites…yes, watch out for those ant trails, especially at night, as you walk around off the beach in your sandals! By the way, during our lengthy swim we saw NO fish or the sharks that allegedly populate these waters. Island life has its own leisurely pace, but not as idyllic as it first appears.

We stayed here for three nights over 4th of July weekend. The hotel is located on the land stretch between Ometepe’s 2 volcanoes, about 20 mins from where you get off the ferry. The houses or rooms are very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The lake is a literal stone’s throw away. Bugs tends to get into your room throughout, but with daily cleaning, we thought it was manageable. More than any of the comforts or amenities, we were hugely pleased with Carlos’ personable approach. He warmly welcomed us and was extremely helpful and attentive to our every need. He explained about the hike up to the waterfalls, and ordered our dinner and lunches for us (as the hotel only does breakfast). Extremely reasonable pricing if you ask me. ¡Mil gracias por todo, señor Carlos!

We were so happy with our entire stay at Xalli. Carlos & Luisa and others went above and beyond to make our stay the best. Not a lot of choice on this part of Ometepe as we were there for daughter’s wedding. Daily breakfasts, coffee, etc. was wonderful. This is THE place to stay when you visit Nicaragua.

We recently spent 2 nights at Xalli whilst visiting Ometepe and loved our stay! Carlos was great and helped us with ferry bookings, restaurants and places to visit. We had a lovely room (thank you for the upgrade Carlos!) and the breakfasts each morning were really good. Highly recommended!

I can not recommend Xalli enough! It was super service even before we got there! There was no place left when we called to pre-book, but the manager found an amazing room for us, large and clean and ligh, with a comfy bed, big enough for the 3 of us, very close to the lake. The grounds are beautifull, plenty of space for our 4 year old to run around, hamocks to chill and a beach to splash in just down the steps. The restaurant is very cosy, plenty of ligh and open to the grounds. The food was very very good, a superb breakfast, and a delicious selection of dishes freshly made for lunch and dinner. And good cocktails too! ;-) And the attention was top notch, friendly staff, very accomodating. We were in the middle of a 6 months long world tur when we came to Ometepe, and this was hands down the nicest place we have stayed! the island is beautiful, but Xalli Hotel, and specially the hospitality of Carlos, made it the nicest place to stay in the whole trip. He went out of his way to help us in anything and everything, gave us advice about where to go and what to see, and made it very easy for us to stay a bit longer… and all with such a good humor and energy! The only regret we have is that we could not stay longer, we really loved it! PS. Even if we were with our 4 years old, I can see this as the perfect place for couples, recommended for romantic escape! Carlos, gracias, gracias monton! Esos 3 dias fueron maravillosos, lo estamos extrañando! Esperamos regresar la proxima vez que nos llegemos por alla, y encontrarte todavia con la misma energia y disfrutando de la vida! Un abrazote! Lis, Daniel & Luna

I spent 4 nights at Xalli. Positives: hotel is well located and right on a beach. Walking distance to some other food options and beaches, and a very quick drive to Balgue. Rooms are above average. The staff is *usually* very attentive. They are efficient and helpful for organizing tours, massage, and taxis. From the hammocks on the lawn you get a view of the lake and both volcanoes. Restaurant is decent, and I appreciated when they made me a big salad on request one night. Bummers: DOGS BARKING AND ROOSTERS CROWING ALL NIGHT, from only a few feet away. As in, non-stop. Every guest I met said they had to sleep with earplugs, and two couples checked out early because of it. This is not a peaceful oasis at night. Nolver and Carlos at reception are great, but a 3rd guy (name?) is less so. One night while I was the only diner he was shooting pool with friends, which meant dinner was not relaxing. You are probably not on Ometepe to watch TV, but be warned they have 90% of the channels blocked so the selection is 10 cartoon channels and a couple of sports channels. Overall? Really nice, but not worth the price they charge. I would probably choose elsewhere if I returned to Ometepe.

The Xalli hotel is paved between the 2 volcanoes, on the beach of Lake Nicaragua. I stayed in one of the bungalows that looked out over the gardens and out to the lake. The room and bathroom were large and spotless. There was TV, air con, fan and good WiFi. The best touch was tea tree shampoo and conditioner awaiting you in the shower. Separate towels were placed in the bathroom if you wanted to walk out the back gate and swim in the lake. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served between 6.30am - 9pm. The food is amazing. Cooked fresh to order, tasty and nutritious. You can then choose from a variety of activities (prices in a folder in your room) or sit on your porch or in any of the huge hammocks struggle around the garden. There are a few other hotels and local restaurants nearby but you do need transport to see other parts of this island. The staff are helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a great little spot with small bungalow style lodging. The bathrooms are beautiful. It's very reasonable and has all the necessary amenities as well as great staff. The only real challenge is going off property for dinner, nothing is very walkable and being a rustic, remote area, transportation isn't always readily available. The food here is ok but not it's best feature. Very enjoyable spot.
