Stayed there for a few days with my mother, who was having surgery in Santa Rosa. Room was large, looked good, and was clean. Lots of amenities. I liked the sliding door between the bathroom and the rest of the room. Beds were comfortable. Their onsite restaurant has great breakfasts. There was a speaker system in each room connected to an intercom at the front desk. I assume it was for alerting guests of danger. Never seen that in anyplace I have ever stayed. Did not use the pool but it looked clean. The "hillside" behind the Inn was beautiful--we drove up it one evening. We did not find the traffic as noisy as some have stated. A good value price-wise too.

My only complaint were some of the other guests. They littered on the property (staff should have cleaned up the property more often). Someone was stomping around on the upper walkway at night a couple of times (we were on the bottom). One night, there was a party on the top floor near us. One group of guests would walk past our room at night talking loudly among themselves. The worst was one night when a man on a cell was having a loud animated conversation in the back parking lot, which was near our room. The jerk went on and on for over an hour!

This place is not the dump that is reflected in recent reviews, but it has a ways to go. We have stayed here several times over the last 25 years. It used to be a Best Western, and it was deservedly defrocked of that branding. To be fair, it is on the upswing and is fairly priced for what it is.

We stayed in a family suite with two BR, one bath, and a kitchenette and eating area. It was clean. But clearly under a "rolling" renovation. There were no towel bars. There was absolutely nothing in the kitchen area, which was well-equipped with a fridge, a microwave, and a cooktop, to make anything with, other than a coffee machine with a couple of cups of coffee provisions. There was only one air conditioner that served the first room and did nothing beyond that. The rooms were clean, the water pressure and temperature were fine.

We were there for a family gathering, and a lot of us stayed there. They were very welcoming of our having a family pizza party in the pool area, which was much appreciated.

Do not expect housekeeping, but they will bring towels, etc. on request.

There is a breakfast restaurant on location. The food is decent, the portions are enormous, but it's pricy for what it is.

Hopefully, they will continue to get their act together. With the above disclaimers, I would stay there again.

My girlfriend and I stayed here the night of Jan 21, 2005. From the outside, the place has the appearance of a dated but very-well kept up small 2-story motel. As for the interior of the room, there wasn't anything remarkable about it, but it was decently furnished and seemed very clean. And, like the other reviewers, felt the price was quite reasonable. That said, there is one potentially significant drawback that I haven't seen mentioned in any of the reviews thus far: the place is right on a major 4-lane boulevard. Perhaps because my girlfriend and I both live in very quiet residential neighborhoods, we found the traffic noise pretty bothersome. Fortunately, one of only a few of rooms that are in back was still available, and the woman at the front desk allowed us to switch. So in that room we were perfectly comfortable, and we would happily stay in that same room again -- but we would not stay in any of the rooms that are on the highway side of the building, and that's most of them.

The hotel is very close to everything and is great if you can sleep anywhere. We unluckily are not those people and everyone had a bad night. The rooms are spacious and we felt safe but the heater turned on and off throughout the night plus the two roads stay busy throughout the night.

I made a reservation at this hotel a little less than 24 hours prior to our expected arrival. We're from out of state, and we were making a last minute trip to California to visit a dear relative who was dying. Unfortunately, the airline cancelled our flight, and they were unable to re-book us in a timely manner. I called the hotel to cancel the reservation (about 12 hours after making it) explaining that the airline had cancelled our flight, and we would no be able to make the trip. They said they would put a note on the reservation so that we wouldn't be charged a cancellation fee. However, we were charged a $285 cancellation fee. I have left 3 messages for the manager to call me, and she has yet to return my call. Apparently, she is the only one who can make the determination about waiving the charge, but she always seems to be at "the other property", and is having "a very busy week". I'm told that the reason I'm being charged is because I didn't provide 48 hours advanced notice of cancellation. Since I made the reservation about 24 hours before anticipated arrival, I'm not sure how that would've been possible. If you're going to visit Santa Rosa, I would recommend staying at the Flamingo over this place.

This is what I sent to Hillside Inn Management and Hotels.com:

I am writing to you my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent stay at Hillside Inn. My experience was marred by several significant issues that not only marred my stay but also left me deeply concerned about the standards of your facility.
First and foremost, the security of the room was severely lacking. Upon arrival, I discovered that the back door slider lock was loose and appeared to have been previously tampered with. Also, the screen was sorely warped and unusable. This lack of proper security measures left me feeling unsafe and uneasy throughout my stay.
Additionally, the television in the room was non-functional, despite being listed as an amenity in your advertisement. I had looked forward to unwinding in the evening with some entertainment, only to be sorely disappointed by the inability to use the TV.
Furthermore, the upholstery on the furniture in the room was stained and visibly dirty. This detracted from the room's aesthetic AND raised concerns about cleanliness and hygiene standards.
The plumbing in the bathroom was inadequate, as the shower arrangement easily flooded and the water pressure on the sink flowed like a fire hose. This inconvenience made carrying out basic hygiene routines difficult and added unnecessary frustration to my stay.
Moreover, I was deeply disappointed by the mis-advertising of your establishment. The pictures and descriptions provided online painted a vastly different picture from the reality of the accommodations. Also, your website indicates that tea is offered yet when I asked about it, it was declined. This false advertising is not only misleading but also deceptive to potential guests.
To compound matters, there was a noticeable hole in the wall above the desk in the room. This blatant disregard for basic maintenance and upkeep is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the overall condition of your establishment.
Overall, my experience at Hillside Inn was subpar and fell far short of my expectations. Take immediate action to address these issues and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences. As a paying guest, I deserve nothing less than a safe, comfortable, and accurately represented lodging experience.
I kindly request a full refund for my stay and assurances that these concerns will be addressed promptly. I hope to hear from you soon regarding the resolution of these matters.

The inn is undergoing renovations. From the looks of other reviews it’s possible it has been an ongoing process for 6+ months. The entire building looked like a ghost town when we arrived. Every corner of the exterior is storing restoration materials, old furniture, scraps, etc.

No one was at the front desk to check us in. Come to think of it, anytime we would drive in or out of the hotel grounds, we never once saw anyone at reception. We had to wait 20+ minutes before the front desk attendant arrived back from running errands.

When we got into our room we expected to either see a nicely renovated room or one that was very outdated. We got a mixture of both. They must be planning to return all of the outdated furniture to the units when done with remodel? And the carpets were horrendous.

Our bedspreads, several towels, and carpeting in our room were severely stained. The windows to our ground unit and back sliding door were unlocked (and windows couldn’t be locked). This was a bit unsettling.

The cherry on top was the loud, inconsiderate guests staying directly above us who decided to host a group well into 4 AM that had blasted loud music, screaming and laughing, and stomping around/sliding furniture across the floors. These units were not built with soundproofing in mind, so we could hear every word. We would have called reception if we felt like that would have done anything. Again — no one was there.

If it weren’t for the fact that we had a very busy weekend planned and would only be using the room for sleep/showers, we would have definitely gone elsewhere the moment we walked in the door.

The pool is not heated, there are vending machines on the property that stand empty. It’s like they should have closed down until renovations were completed.

The room was very spacious but run down. We stayed one night and had a confirmed price. Two days after our stay we noticed we were charged one hundred dollars over the confirmed price. Still trying to get ahold of someone to straighten it out. The curtain hardware was broken and the curtains were shabby and sloppily hanging off the rod…literally had to use hair clips to close them to keep the light out. The chest of drawers wouldn’t stay closed so nearly ran into them several times. There is one tiny TV that is hard to view from both beds. The carpet was so nasty, we kept our shoes on until going to bed. The sheets had holes in them but were clean….hoping the rest of the bedding was clean as well. You will want to ask for extras when you check in. There is one package of coffee, soap and a couple of shampoo bottles. The office is not open early in the AM so if you need anything you are out of luck. We were only there to sleep and move along….thank goodness!

Dealing with the people at this hotel has been a nightmare. Everyone has a horrible attitude and I've received the worst customer service I've ever had dealing with a hotel.

I made a reservation for someone coming to visit me from out of town and when they went to check in they were turned away and told they had no reservation, in spite of having received a confirmation email from them. When I called to complain I was told they had no reservation under the number I provided. My friends went and stayed elsewhere. In the meantime, I called to complain and was berated on the phone for being upset and made to feel the whole thing was somehow my fault! I was then told I wouldn't be charged since no one ever stayed there, and miraculously they still managed to charge me!! It's been weeks, I've made about a dozen calls and after more horribly rude phone interactions in which NO ONE APOLOGIZED to me for charging me almost $500, I still haven't been refunded the whole amount and see that for some reason I was refunded only a partial refund. STILL trying to reach a manager to get this sorted out. I cannot say enough bad things about them.

I don't know who is reviewing this place with 4 stars but I am here to tell you nope. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the woman at the desk was friendly and very willing to deal with the issues we were having. My husband wanted to leave as soon as we go into the room. I knew deep down I had been cat-fished with reviews and I told him to give it a chance. BIG mistake.
Let me just say this is a motel. The fact that it has 4 stars led us to believe it was clean and quiet. It is not. Our view was of construction and junk outside of the door. There were people constantly walking around smoking weed and cigarettes so don't leave the window open. There was movement and cars going in the back of the alley all night long. We woke up to Snoop Dog playing out of someones open door before 8am. I like Snoop, but not at 8am on a Saturday. The bed was not comfortable, the carpets looked very suspect and I dint want to walk around without my shoes on. We had issues with our neighbors and the woman at the front desk handled it. We heard them talking outside the door because the walls and doors are thin. But after she left we paid for it with loud talking and slams and mire noise. But they did stop going in and out and hanging out in the front hall with music and their door open so there's that. Oh, this was at 11pm. The next day I told my husband he was right and we checked out.

I asked about this and it is a pet friendly hotel in some rooms. Their policy is you can’t leave the pet alone in the room. Bummer if you want to go out, but understandable.

Most do, but not all. Be sure to request it when you book and explain that it is needed for medication.
