Property's Favourite Review
The Gables Wine Country Inn was the most wonderful Bed and Breakfast we have stayed at in a very, very long time (and we have stayed at many over the years)! It was the perfect place to celebrate a special birthday and much anticipated retirement! The hosts (Pam and Larry) were incredible. They were friendly, knowledgable, accommodating and an absolutely fantastic team of baker and chef!! Clearly much love and hard work has gone into creating such a wonderful venue and the attention to every detail made us feel like we were visiting old friends and not meeting inn keepers for the first time. Recommendations for activities, places to visit and wineries for tastings were spot on. We will definitely return and encourage anyone looking for a fantastic get-a-way in lovely Sonoma Valley to try The Gables Wine Country Inn. We are sure that you won't be disappointed! This is a fantastic place for a romantic get-a-way, weekend with friends or family or a solo trip just to relax!

When you first arrive, you are greeted by a kind couple who show you to your room. As you walk past the Victorian staircase, soft jazz music is playing ( think Etta James and Frank Sinatra) and you notice the whole house is pristine and the drawing room has a fireplace and antique furniture. Each bedroom is unique and complete with the softest sheets and comforters. Each bathroom has a claw footed bathtubs with a shower attachment. I slept like a child each night I stayed. I originally was going to stay two nights and was able to extend to four nights. Every morning I awoke to the smell of fresh brewed French coffee. Larry, one of the owners, hand prepares exquisite courses for breakfast like crab souffle and plum crisps. Your choice of mimosa or fruit juices are offered. The preparation and serving of food makes you feel like you are at a restaurant. After breakfast, the owners helped assist me in booking wine tastings and gave recommendations on how to get the most out of staycation to wine country. I truly enjoyed my visit here and hope to back soon!

The owners of this beautiful, fully authentic and well worth checking into luxury bed and breakfast are wonderfully skilled and friendly people. The welcome mat rolls out for you long before you step on the property. Larry and Pam are top notch hosts who share their love of friendly conversation, their historic building, their ability to produce magnificent food for breakfast and their locally bottled wine made from grapes grown on the property. As you arrive at The Gables, you step into a storybook of luxury and comfort that immerses you into the Victorian era. Everywhere you look is filled with beauty and authenticity. The ultra comfortable beds are adorned with fine, soft linens. The bathrooms host a claw foot tub, bath robes to slip into and other amenities such as body wash that is locally sourced and smells amazing. The experience touches all of your senses in a very positive way. Guests may meander the three acre property and enjoy the vineyard, outside lounging areas, cool breezes and fun hammock chairs to relax away the day. A Massage can be booked and held in your room, or in a private outdoor pavilion in the vineyard area. Oh, and breakfast? It is top notch, freshly prepared, made from locally sourced ingredients, ingenious menu, beautiful served and five-star tasty. The Gables is highly recommended.

We called somewhat last minute and despite short notice and bad weather (heavy rains) the owners were super accommodating to my wife and I for a one night stay. The house itself is historic and updated for modern conveniences, The bedrooms are spacious and all have private baths. We enjoyed premium complimentary wines (and fun conversation) in the parlor upon arrival. Recommendations for local dining were spot on. Then to top it off a truly exquisite breakfast is served that rivals any we have had in wine country.

Larry and Pam are not just great innkeepers, they are also: consummate chefs, knowledgeable connections to the Sonoma wine scene, artists, winemakers…the list goes on, and yes, I’m ranting a bit.
As chefs: each breakfast is an event. Larry makes his own bread, using his own starter, native yeasts. The outcome is amazing. He creates the main dish for each breakfast, from feather-light soufflés to elaborate egg dishes.
As guides: they connected us with the most phenomenal Sonoma winemakers: Mike Talty, Carol Shelton, Phyllis Zouzounis, and many others.
As artists: each guest room, and the dining room, is a study in color coordination, local art, and period accessories.
As winemakers: they even have a vineyard of Riesling grapes, and made a wine from it blended with Viognier grapes!
We emerged spoiled, happy, and grateful that they were such caring hosts. Do yourself a favor. Go.

If you are interested in going back in time by staying at a well-maintained Victorian house from 1877, you might consider the Gables Wine Country Inn in Santa Rosa. The rooms are spacious with antique period furnishings. The owners serve a delicious three course breakfast.
However, if you get a room in the front of the inn, expect a lot of noise from passing traffic, as it is located on a busy country road where vehicles tend to speed by. A white noise machine is provided to try to offset the noise level, After a while, the noise doesn’t seem as bothersome as much, perhaps as you get more accustomed or desensitized to it.
Befitting an older inn, there is no television in the room, but WiFi is provided. Each room has its own bathroom with a claw foot tub. A shower head was added as a modern convenience, but be advised that the bathtub plumbing in this period house is antiquated with the spigots located very low in the bathtub and hard to reach to adjust water temperature. We learned to use our feet to turn the spigots. Moreover, if you are older or have physical challenges, it may be hard to climb into the high wall tub, and the shower space is extremely cramped and actually claustrophobic.
Breakfast, while delectable, is served only at 9AM usually in the dining room at the sound of a gong. Here you are seated at long tables with other guests. Depending on your preference, this arrangement may seem regimented. One morning, however, as there were only four guests, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast al fresco on the deck. This may have been an exception.
The inn is on four acres of land with a deck, vineyard, and cottage to rent. Most visitors come to visit wineries for wine tasting.

Pam and Larry, the owners, are friendly, sociable, relaxed, casual, helpful, outgoing and overall great people; without being intrusive, they go out of their way to offer suggestions on how to make the most of your time in the area. The inn itself has immense architectural appeal and amazing history, and is intimate as could be.
We stayed 4 nights in SUNSET, a large and quiet room facing the gardens (which you definitely should explore) and away from Petaluma Hill Rd. The loudest sound we ever heard was roosters at sunrise. One point about the room itself: the shower is in a clawfoot tub, which was a high step in and out for me (I'm 5' 10") and there are no grab bars (in case, like me, you need those).
Breakfast, served cheerfully at 9AM, is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds, and too amazing to describe. Everything freshly baked and cooked, mostly from local sources, and often from items Pam and Larry have grown themselves. Pam has a unique way of summoning the guests to breakfast; you will enjoy it.
My wife and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
ONE PRACTICAL TIP: when returning to the inn after dark from the direction of Santa Rosa, slow down substantially when the speed limit increases from 45 to 55, as the signs and entrance to the inn come up very quickly after that 55 mph sign.

Pam and Larry are two down to earth and perfect hosts in their historic home. The Gables is located just enough out of the busy part of town to help you feel you are at peace. Pam gave us a personal tour of the home and property and made an amazing lemon and lavender tart while Larry engineered home repairs and perfectly poached eggs, avocado and sourdough bread for breakfast. Hot coffee at 7 was appreciated! We hope to visit again!

We stayed at The Gables at the end of September and it was for our one year anniversary. It was in a great central location so we got to experience the area and beautiful scenic drives to various places. The owners, Pam and Larry, were just the best and made us feel welcomed. We loved the room we stayed in it was perfectly romantic! It was set up just beautifully and so charming. The whole property was just a joy to explore and take photos. We especially enjoyed the barn and seeing the two barn owls up in the rafters. Their property cat, Boots, was just the sweetest and he followed us around, so cute! Oh, and the breakfasts were the BEST! Delicious unique recipes and they are great cooks! I recommend this place! You will not be disappointed!

My husband and I stayed at the Gables Wine Country Inn for four nights in the Sunset Suite. The room had air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a king-size bed. Pam and Larry (the folks who own and run the Inn) were so friendly, kind, and very helpful.
Breakfast was included every morning of our stay and let me tell you, the breakfast is worth the trip alone.. Every day, we were given a 3-course gourmet meal with ingredients from a local farm, bakery, butcher, or from their garden.
The location of the Inn is close to many wineries and a short drive from town.
All in all, I give a 10 out of 10!
