The Cal Mar has a great location, the beach, the pier, the shopping street, everything is within a few minutes. The rooms are well equipped with everything from bathing utensils, dishes, fridge, cutlery, stove, fridge and whatever I just forgot. The pool is clean and well maintained, the staff friendly, very helpful and was available to us 24 hours with advice and assistance. During the days where Hilary swept through California there were even umbrellas to borrow at the reception. We enjoyed our stay very much and would check in at Cal Mar again anytime.

We absolutely loved staying here for a week. The location to the beach and the shops and restaurants was fantastic. The pool area was clean and a great space to relax, sun bathe or have a coffee. The staff at Cal Mar were really helpful and kind. The parking at the hotel was brilliant (but an additional cost) The room was spacious with had a proper kitchen which helped when we wanted to self cater. The queen beds were comfortable for one person but not for two. The sofa bed was a bit hard after a few nights and the rooms could do with modernising. We would recommend this hotel.

family needed a hotel in the area for 3 nights. our requirements were a separate bedroom and full kitchen and Cal Mar fit that description. A short walk to the Santa Monica Promenade and to the beach. Bed was comfortable enough. Kitchen with fridge, stove, and microwave. Dishes and silverware provided. Pool is okay. Parking available and price for parking isn't outrageous. The building is old and everything creaks. Bathroom is super small. It gets the job done but it is way overpriced for what it offers.

The best thing about this hotel is its location. A few minutes walk from Santa Monica Beach. It's in a quiet residential area. (Only the fire engines sirens disturbed the peace - oh and the garbage trucks!!). It is also very close to the fabulous Third Street pedestrianised area. The rooms were very spacious. I liked having a walk-in wardrobe. Lots of storage space. However, the hotel has the appearance of being very "tired" - eg: carpets, the concrete surrounding the pool. I totally appreciate the difficult times hospitality has had over the last couple of years of lockdown, but at least the windows could have been washed to give a better impression. The reception staff and room cleaning staff very pleasant. The swimming pool is clean and heated - which even in May was appreciated as the week I was in LA it was cold. The Californian sun was missing!! As a base from which to explore LA it is OK.…

I was overcharged from what I was quoted, management was unresponsive. Front desk was terrible and did not follow up. my friend was kicked out of the pool at 8:55 am because the pool opens at 9am. She is quiet and was alone. Ridiculous. The rooms are shabby and lack proper maintenance. We had ants in our kitchenette, the furniture was dirty and worn. The worst was the front desk. someone who claims her name was Karen on a Tuesday morning was awful and the opposite of what an owner would hope for in an employee. She lied to me and spoke to the manager in Spanish probably thinking I could not understand what she was saying then lied to me about quoting me a price. Will not return or recommend.

Cal Mar is a true Santa Monica treasure. The staff is outstanding, The housekeeping staff is excellent. The rooms are full apartments that are well-maintained, spacious and comfortable. There is a really fun vibe - after coming back from a long fun day in SM it's great to see families enjoying the pool and hanging out. The location is incredible - close enough to the promenade for a 5min walk but away from the noise, two block from the park and super easy to get down to the ocean. I've been staying here for years and am truly grateful to this wonderful hotel.

I was impressed with the housekeeping staff who turned in the wallet (containing credit card, driver's license, health care membership, and money) that I left in the room and with the management staff who called me and facilitated its return to me.

This place manages to break 3 City/County laws at once: 1. Starts loud gardening projects at 7AM. 2. Use illegal motorized blowers. 3. Workers do not wear masks. Manager's answer to these issues: "This is how it was always done..." So if you wish to get waken up at 7AM, get your car and yourself dusty with toxic pavement dust and maybe get an illness - this is your place! See picture...

This is a great place. Spacious apartments with all amenities. Yes, it is not new but that goes with the style. Excellent location for everything Santa Monica has to offer. It can be noisy and yes that early morning bottle and garbage collection is irritating - but only if you do not sleep through it. Designed in the historic SM style. I loved SM in the 60's/70's -so peaceful and laid back - but now everything we did then is banned or illegal. I hear you even have to pay for car parking now. When I get out I will come back and see if any of the old gang are still hanging out -and who took my Shelby 500.
