Suite with kitchen, dining room, and sitting area made our one bedroom so roomy and comfortable! Parking was close and easy. Location is half block from Third Street Promenade and just a few minute walk to Santa Monica Pier. We'd stay there again.

We had a great stay. Some of the previous negative comments are a bit harsh. Cleanliness couldn't be faulted, room was tidied every day, and bedding and towels were spotlessly clean. Maybe the furniture and fixtures have seen better days, but everything worked fine, and there is plenty of space for storage and stretching out. Beds very comfortable! The kitchen...

My friend and I ended up staying at Cal Mar after a pre-arranged hotel booking fell through. There weren't many alternatives to choose from last minute so we chose Cal Mar based on its location to the Santa Monica shopping area, which was very close. It is true to say that the hotel is very dated and tired however the...

We will be returning to Cal Mar in May of this year. We have stayed many times over the years as a family member lives in Santa Monica. I am writing primarily because I am disheartened by so many of the negative reviews. We have had and made many awesome memories here. It is a very unique property with a...

Okay, where to start. The resort, for want of a better word, is poorly maintained. The very small swimming pool area sits in front of all the rooms above in a big circle. The surround to the pool area is concrete which has many cracks, which over many years have been repaired with bitumen/ acrypol. No attempt has been made...

This little hotel is very old and it is very noticeable as soon as you step into the pool area. The rooms are old styling but even though old it is clean. Carpets do need a good steam clean. There is a old style kitchen and the bathroom is old and small. I guess if you are looking for price...

Perfect Santa Monica location. Our extended family stayed in several rooms while attending celebrations in Santa Monica, specifically, a family wedding at the Fairmont Hotel nearly next door. Some rooms still need some carpet and furniture upgrades but not one family member had a complaint. Loved having a suite that allowed us all to stretch out and have meals in...

This is the worst hotel I think I have ever seen. The room smells as you enter the carpets are dirty with dirty stains. The furniture I wouldn't let a dog sleep on. The sheets were off white and I didn't want to move in bed In case I disturbed the bed bugs or what ever else was lurking there....

The rooms here were one bedroom apartments in its day, so there is plenty of room. A nice sized living room, a dining area, a full kitchen plus the bedroom. The location is very good, just blocks off the main street and away from the 3rd street shopping area, but an easy walk. Parking is an issue. The hotel charges...

The Hotel Cal Mar had very friendly staff on reception (we felt warmly welcomed) and everything was spotlessly clean. The decor was very retro (kind of 1960s) but I found that pretty cool and having a fully equipped kitchen was great. It's such a shame they don't go one further and put in a washing machine and dryer - if...

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
