Let me say the staff was great! Very friendly and accommodating, Bill was over the top helpful and a gentleman. The property itself, not so much. Marriott has tried to put lipstick on a pig and it's not working. The hotel used to be dorms, then got converted to a Holiday Inn and a little over a year ago new...

Dear David L, Thank you for your recent visit and review. It is always rewarding to receive compliments such as yours, about our staff. We have a great team and in particular will ensure that Bill receives special recognition. I was disappointed to learn of your displeasure with the building layout While the exterior corridors are a fact, we are...

The Paradox is a cool hotel with a great outside pool area with extended bar / restaurant service. Staff was friendly and everything inside and on the grounds was very clean. When we checked in all was smooth. When we got to our room we found that the toilet was not working and we were short a couple of glasses...

This is an "Open Hotel" meaning that you are not in a closed building where all the rooms are, you are technically outside within the premises of the Hotel. Rooms are some kind of combination between minimalist and nature due to the use of wood. Very close to the downtown by car.

Was booked here by our travel company after our reserved hotel had a fire. Staff was very nice. Room was clean but simple. Old motel renovated to be modern hipster. Nothing to write home about. Don't understand why it's rated 4-stars. The barn door type door separating the bathroom from the bedroom offers minimal privacy and no sound barrier. Overpriced,...

Dear Jamie P, Thanks for your recent visit and review. We're glad to know you felt the staff were nice and that the room was clean, simple and modern. We do want to ensure the safety and security for all guests and accordingly all access points to the hotel from the outside require a valid key card to access. I'm...

We stayed here for a week before and after my husband had surgery. They could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Great property, close to park and downtown area. We could walk to downtown area for shopping, food and went to 2 different theaters. They also provide a shuttle service to anywhere in a 3 mile radius. The property...

This is a great hotel in a great location, it is the perfect place to stay for walking downtown and being near the Pacific Garden Mall, Boardwalk, and centrally located to drive to Capitola and West Cliff Drive. The Illy espresso machine in the room is great to have, almost as good as our home Nespresso machine. The room we...

Dear KiraLaura, Thanks for your recent visit and review. I agree that Hotel Paradox is a great hotel in a central location, and good to know you'll be back on your next visit to Santa Cruz. I am sorry to learn that not everything was to your satisfaction. I appreciate your constructive comments and we will certainly forward those on...

The architect and decorator really did a fantastic job taking a former 5 story motel/hotel with outside corridor into a hip, nicely decorated hotel. I love the earthiness of the decorations, dispersed with modern amenities and use of "recycled" items throughout. I did not check prices of other hotels as we are Marriott members, but I think this is on...

My wife and I stayed one night at the Paradox and loved it. The service was excellent and the accommodations we great as well. We really liked the fun and contemporary design of the building. We ate in the Solaire restaurant at the hotel which was also unique and we'll prepared.

Got this hotel through a Priceline Express Deal at a very good rate. Surprised to learn that it is in the Marriott family. Offered a choice of room floors and allocated a room on the top floor. Rooms are not large but are delightly furnished with all mod cons and very clean. Does not let the Marriott brand down. Highly...

Was on business trip and husband tagged along. I loved the great customer service and quick response that they had which is important on business trips. He had a great time exploring the neighborhood while I was at work. They have bikes you can use to explore. Will be back. Better experience than I've had at other places that cost...
