I've stayed at the Candlewood Suites in Santa Clara twice and will stay again next week. The location across the street from Santa Clara University is ideal for me. The studio suite is a large room with a reasonably stocked kitchenette (full-size fridge, coffee maker, etc.). It's not fancy (slim on the provided toiletries, for example), but is very practical and comfortable. You can get coffee (Starbuck's), bagels, and Quizno's subs just a few steps from the hotel, and the train to San Francisco and buses to anywhere in the surrounding area are right next door. I was concerned about the trains running so close to the hotel, but I didn't hear anything late at night when I was trying to sleep. I think the prices are quite good, especially when compared with other suites hotels in the area--especially on weekdays, when the others charge anywhere from $140 to $180 per night.

I have to say, this was a tough one because the employees at this particular Candlewood Suites (I've stayed at others) make writing this review difficult because besides the staff being very nice, I can't really say too much else was good about the place. I did not sleep one peaceful night of the 4 nights I was there because the train was right outside of my window. Maybe if I'd asked for an interior room, it would have been different but my god was it loud. (Good for commuters, I guess...unfortunate for sleepy guests.) Also, there isn't sufficient parking for the property. I arrived quite late and was told to park across the way - where all the "Private Parking" signs were and was told that as long as I didn't park directly in front of the bank or Starbuck's or Quizno's or basically anything else in the adjacent lot that I wouldn't have to worry about my rental car being towed. Suffice it to say, I was constantly worried about my rental car being towed. Additionally, the hotel is very old - or if not, it's very old...smelling. There was a funkiness to the place and the carpeting in the common areas was quite musty. That being said, my room was clean and comfortable, I felt safe (except the whole parking thing) and the staff really were exceptionally kind (even when they had to tell me I couldn't switch rooms because the hotel was sold out and there were no other rooms to possibly escape some of the train noise). I might try this hotel when I return to the area because it is so close to everywhere I need to be - but only if I can get a room that isn't right on the tracks. Otherwise - I'd rather drive a little longer on good sleep than have a shorter drive on almost no sleep.

The hotel rooms was renovated last year and I am sorry to hear about musty carpeting in the common areas The hotel is located near public transportation and for some guests it can be as a convenience and as a noise distraction. Great location just across the street from Santa Clara University campus. Clean rooms, nice staff, very affordable, some noise from the train station close by but otherwise reasonable. Shopping and restaurants are 10 minutes away by cab/Uber. Starbucks is 200' away!

Terrible. No soap to wash my hands in the bathroom, I used the bottle of soap hanging in the shower whenever I needed to wash my hands after using the toilet. There was a sign in the room stating checkout was at noon but at the front office the sign said checkout was 11 am. I'd already sxheduled a Zoom call at 11 am and asked if I could then check out at 11:30 am. The desk clerk said no I had to check out at 11 am. What a crappy hotel. I would not stay there again.

I booked a two night stay for a local conference here about four months ago. The rate was an advanced purchase, but I wasn't charged at the time of booking. A week ago, I was charged the full rate for the two days, which was 17 days before check-in. Four days AFTER, I canceled the booking due to a cancellation of the event I was attending. I was confused about the timing of the charge and called customer service to get an explanation that I could pass on to my manager with my reimbursement request.
Unfortunately the call experience was just awful. The answers the rep gave me didn't make a lot of sense, but when I tried to question what she was saying, she kept interrupting and talking over me and when I said "please let me finish", she actually told me not to be rude! She reasoned I would have been charged the same amount upon cancellation anyway, so what did it matter. That wasn't what I was asking though. I explained that all I needed was to understand the timing and their documentation could be improved. An answer like "I'm sorry your experience wasn't the best, thank you for your feedback, I'll make sure this gets to the appropriate team" would have been satisfactory, but that's not how the call went at all.
I don't have an issue with the charge itself. I understand I booked a pre-paid nonrefundable rate. I never asked for a refund or to dispute the charge itself. I could have dealt with the lack of information on the confirmations. But it's absolutely inexcusable to offer poor customer service on top of that and to call your customers rude. Never ever staying here and will tell my friends who attend nearby events to avoid this place.

My husband and I needed a room convenient to the airport to catch a very early flight. We knew this hotel from it previously being a Candlewood Suites hotel and we decided to try it. We are so happy we did. The front desk person, Minh, was such a help to us. When we checked in Minh learned that we would be leaving very early for the airport, even before the nearby bus began at 5 a.m. Minh volunteered to make calls and have a van arrive to pick us up when we needed as he could see we had a lot of luggage. He did and the van was there and waiting for us when we came down to check out. Minh also made certain our wake-up call was programmed correctly and he even had a luggage cart available for my husband when we needed it to check out. Everything went smoothly and we appreciate the attention to detail and the kindness Minh showed us and we are appreciative to the General Manager, Frank, for having such a caring person at the front desk and for also overseeing the entire hotel and staff to make sure the hotel is well run and welcoming, which we feel it is. It also seems the rooms have been recently remodeled/updated and it was wonderfully comfortable. All of the kitchenette amenities and the bathroom amenities were in place and presented in a very sanitary way. We will definitely stay here again if the need arises.

The manager and staff are so rude, completely do not appreciate a business traveller. I had a conference call at 11a and they just kept banging on door to check out. No reason to be so rude … crummy locked door lobby…kinda divey place. The hallway floors are dirty, pillows basic and foam, thin sheets and towels…i stayed for points and it wasn’t worth it. Go somewhere else.

It was the most atrocious, horrible, abominable experience i have ever had.
The hotel is in a very bad state.
It needs immediate refurbishment.
Bad musty stinking smell.
We complained about it and the action they took was for a cleaning lady to come to the room and spray it with Glade..😳😳😳😳
The most unfriendly, rude, hostile staff i have ever met in the hospitality business (except for one lovely girl). Instead of accommodating us, they indulged in creating more discomforting situations.
They completely “destroyed” my family’s visit to the States, they ruined our mood .
Never never go to that place.
They did not even want to print my check out bill.
She said she would e-mail it.
And she did not do even that .

I have never even seen the pool but because they list one as a hotel amenity, please contact them and find out, if they have one, its outside...hope this helps
