The hotel room was relatively updated, clean sheets, firm, good sleeping mattress and pillows. Free wifi. Didn't feel like a 'dump'. I actually slept fairly well.
Negatives?
Manager was not very friendly, and I felt rushed when I wanted to inspect a room before renting. Never smiled or said as much as thank you.
Anyone who stays here should be aware that there are several "ladies of the night" who work out of this hotel. Fairly descreet, but not nearly descreet enough for me to not notice.
Free breakfast foods was sort of a joke, since the orange juice was more like orange water. Tossed it out. Pathetic.
I'll give this place two stars because I slept better than expected, and I generally felt safe. They could have gotten three stars simply by offering a real glass of juice in the morning and a smile and thank you somewhere in the process.
Overall, I'd seek something a bit more comfortable and friendly next time.
When I got there it was 11pm and it was raining. I thought I was in the wrong place but the GPS said this was it and it said Econolodge (Hahahhah). It was dark in the office so I thought it was closed...until I saw the hole in the wall check in window. There are lots of pictures to fully illustrate what you will experience. The lady (and i say this loosely) asked if i was paying cash or credit - classy. She then charged my credit card up front for 2 nights. I called her on this and she said I could get a refund for the next night if i wanted. I told her i was too tired to fight with her tonight and went to my room.
Apart from the full smelly garbage cans in the stairwell and the 7 times it took me before my the door opened, the hotel was overall....TERRIBLE. If i had a blacklight, the room would have lit up like the 4th of July. The floor wasn't clean, the phone was sticky, there were stains on a LEATHER CHAIR!!! and cigarette burns on the toilet. Used Soap and shampoo? WTF. The free wifi didn't work even though the hub was right outside the room.
Had to get an ironing board and iron from the front desk as these must be exclusive to royalty. Please see pics of the ironing board that looks like it doubles for a diaper changing station. I checked out 6 hours later.
The checkout process wasn't that smooth either. I had to deal with miss pleasant from the night before who refunded me the prepaid day. Turned in my passkey to the gentleman at the front desk but he didn't want to interrupt his candy crush session.
For 85 bucks a night, i'd get the same value sleeping in a dumpster.
I've been staying at this hotel for a couple of months for work and I couldn't be happier. I get the best value for the price and I'm in the only room that has a proper shower, not a tub/shower combination. Too bad they don't have more rooms with proper showers otherwise I might get a different room with one king bed rather than two queens, but hey...not complaining. The extra bed comes in handy for a guy living out of a suitcase most of the time.
Anyone looking for concierge service should definitely look elsewhere. This is a moderate to inexpensive hotel that is run by a family who is on site 24/7. The "continental" breakfast is really a juice machine and some small wrapper pastries. It is definitely not a "spread." That being said, just on the other side of Lawrence Expressway and a short distance away is a Denny's if you have to have a proper breakfast. The hotel does what it is supposed to do - offer a reasonably-priced room in the middle of everything you could need. There is a menu for ordering food straight to your room, if so inclined, but I have never had the need to order yet. There's too much else around that I would get before ordering in.
All in all, this is a fairly inexpensive, clean and comfortable stay close to all conveniences. BTW...I am NOT getting any special perks for dropping this review. I am not getting compensated in any way nor am I affiliated with the facility itself. I own my own business and typically like to stay in places that offer that balance between price and comfort, with safety in mind. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay short, medium or longer term. It's fairly quiet (even thought right on a main street) and I have nothing but good things to say about the managers of the property.
The owners are very committed to establishing one of the very best and yet affordable hotels in the city.
Filthy outdated rooms. One of the beds wasn't changed. It was so dirty full of hairs and sweat stains including the pillows that I had to sleep on the other bed which had a HORRIBLE mattress from 2004!! What kind of motel keeps a mattress in a room for 13 years!!? It was so soft and saggy it made my back stiff, not to mention the box spring was ripped and torn.
VERY NOISY air-conditioner. The vent was cracked and missing pieces of the cover. Candy wrappers were thrown inside. Graffiti on the side of it. Extremely old and outdated looked at least 20 years old. Curtains were old, dirty and wouldn't stay closed.
Shower head looked like it was from 1980. It was practically coming out of the wall. Anti-slip guard in the bathtub was completely worn out, cigarette stains all over the side of the tub. Toilet seat had cigarette stains too. The only reason I'm giving it 1 star is because the mini fridge had a freezer on top.
Don't expect anything but fast food after 10 pm, though. Jack in the Box's teriyaki bowl hits the spot and they're very close. Before that there's a ton of Korean BBQ joints I'd love to try.
Very quiet for being on El Camino Real. No elevator - lugging suitcases upstairs can be annoying. Quieter than expected.
First, we we first pulled in to the hotel, the parking lot was full of men working construction. The hotel was being worked on, painted, etc., so the rooms were full of shady looking men working on the hotel. It was obvious that these men and/or their families were living in the hotel. Any time you have families actually living in the hotel rooms, it is not a good sign. As a group of females, we felt very unsafe. The place was just creepy. I cannot stress this enough.
Also, the construction started right next to our door fairly early in the morning, so there is a fair amount of nosie.
One of our rooms had no dead bolt on the door. The soap came in a package that looked so old that I took it home as a souvenir as a joke. No way were we going to use it. Also, we weren't given any washcloths, which was rather strange.
The air conditioning was one of the old models that sits on the floor. There are giant curtains in front of the window, so the air just blows up inside them instead of going out into the room.
Overall, this was just a really bad experience. If you are a single female, or even a group, I would NOT stay here. We felt so unsafe. Basically, the hotel is just filled with scary looking construction workers who stared at us any time we walked by. There has got to be something better in the area for the same price.
