We stayed along with other family members overnight in two rooms. On the positive side the rooms were well presented and the beds were comfortable and a light breakfast was provided. On the negative side our air conditioning didn't work making the room quite stuffy, there was no key for the door deadlock also the shower rose was at about...

Perfectly adequate motel, nothing to differentiate it from many others. Good location, if like us you were planning on visiting Hearst castle on the drive through the Big Sur. Could do with checking the cleaning staff - we found a childs shoe left under the bed from a previous occupant.

We found this little resort by accident and were glad we did. For $79 it's perfect. The room was clean but the ocean front fireplaces and seating was outstanding. A fire burning while the sun set slowly over the pacific was almost surreal, groups of unfamiliar people gathered and enjoying the same shared experience. Wonderful.

Budget motel which is clean but sparse. The bathroom is good size, but the shower stall is small. No amenities at hotel. No ocean view but you can hear the ocean at night.. No air conditioning but does have a ceiling fan. Did have a refrigerator, but it was loud as it cycled on and off. No elevator. Hotel was...

After not booking a room ahead of time, we discovered that the Sands by the Sea was one of the few lower priced hotels that still had vacancy in the area. Main attraction for us was that it sets right on the beach, We were little nervous when we first pulled up, but was pleasantly surprised when we checked out...

This was the half way point of our trip up the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Staying in a little seaside motel like this was on the list of things to do and I don't think we could have picked a better one. Very friendly man working the desk when we checked in, was very helpful. San Simeon...

My husband and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend. The Sands by the Sea was one of the lower priced hotels we found that still had vacancy. I was a little nervous when we pulled up, as this is an older hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were well maintained and the location is great. About 5...

We stayed for 1 night en route to Santa Barbara. It was a great place to stop after driving along the spectacular coastline of Highway 1. The hotel is walking distance from the beach and about 5 mins drive from Hearst Castle which is a must see. There wasn't much to see in San Simeon but our stay was pleasant...

We stayed here because we wanted to visit nearby Cambria, but the prices in Cambria were exorbitant. For less than half the price we got a room that was clean, comfortable, convenient, and affordable. The bed was nice and firm and there was a large selection of pillow types. The towels were thick and plentiful and the shower, if small,...

Pros: close to Hearst Castle, very friendly and helpful front desk staff, nice sized and reasonably priced king room (with micro and fridge), short walk to the beach, next door to a good restaurant (The Cavalier at the Best Western), comfortable bed and pillows, nice towels and good water pressure, very quiet. Cons (in order of "con-ness"): 1. no, zero,...
