Our stay at the Wydown Hotel was wonderful. It is a small boutique hotel conveniently located in downtown St. Helena. We attended a 3-day event at Charles Krug Winery, and the hotel's proximity, just 5 minutes away, was incredibly convenient.

The staff at the Wydown is very helpful and accommodating. Sabrina at the front desk helped us check in quickly because we were running late for our event.

We stayed in room #10, which is a corner room. I'm glad we upgraded to the corner room because it was the perfect size and had a great view of the shops on Main. Three large windows that let in lots of light when the Roman shades were up. This, along with the high ceiling made the room feel light and airy.

The quality of the bedding exceeded our expectations. As someone particularly discerning about bedding, I was thoroughly impressed with the mattress, which offered medium-firm support, and the linens, which were smooth without feeling overly silky. Additionally, the availability of both firm and soft pillows ensured a comfortable night's sleep.

Without a doubt, we will choose the Wydown Hotel for our future stays in the area.

PROS:
- Convenient location near shops, restaurants, and art galleries
- Tranquil atmosphere
- Convenient parking facilities
- Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff
- Complimentary amenities such as coffee, pastries, cookies, water, and tea
- Impeccable cleanliness, with a special mention to the exceptional room cleaning service (thank you PAO)

CON:
While it was challenging to identify a downside, if pressed, I would mention the absence of room service.

However, given the plethora of excellent dining options nearby, this minor inconvenience hardly detracted from our overall experience. For a delicious full breakfast, Gillowod Cafe, just a 2-minute walk away, proved to be an excellent choice.

Clean, modern, convenient, and comfortable.

With covid going on I was hesitant about staying in a hotel but the moment I went in I was at ease. Clean, clean, clean!

I was over the moon with the location. The hotel is right snack in St. Helena, walkable to restaurants, grocery stores, banks, wineries, etc. even the parking was perfection right behind the building.

The Lobby is expansive and everything felt new and recently redone. The front desk attendant was warm and welcoming and knew my name the moment I walked up. Check in took only moments.

There are only around 12 rooms (I think) at this boutique hotel. The interior of my room was beautiful with a king bed, desk, sitting area, mini fridge (which had complementary drinks and water in it) and a lovely bathroom. Sitting in the desk was a note discussing all of the extra precautions they took for covid and they had a complimentary bottle of lavender sanitizer spray.

With the location being close to the train tracks and fire station I was concerned about noise but I heard nothing during my stay.

In the AM complementary food and coffee was served from model bakery. It was a delicious start to the day.

I had an amazing stay and can’t wait to go back!

This hotel has many positive things, but they are not enough to justify the high price tag. The location, in the middle of St Helena is wonderful, the lobby resembles an art gallery and the place looks super modern, fancy and clean. The parking is convenient, the elevator is spacious and the rooms were elegant, clean and the bed was the BEST. I travelled with my kids so they had already prepared the extra bed in the room and it was very comfortable and elegant as well. They also have additional details that are very nice, like free cookies, free drinks in the fridge and fruits in the lobby. The breakfast was included and the food selection was so spectacular that I went to the local bakery to buy a bag of the granola for me (photo attached). All these things were great, but for the price I would expect almost perfection.. and the devil is in the details. These are the things I’d improve: 1) stairs carpet should be cleaned 2) air conditioners units on the hall to the room and big trash containers should be hidden (photos attached) 3) the bar on the lobby should be open for guests to enjoy when they come back from touring around.

Response from WydownHotel, Guest Relations Manager at Wydown Hotel

Thank you so much for your review. Your time is certainly appreciated. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and the amenities we have to offer. Our carpets were professionally cleaned in December so every effort is made to keep everything sparkly clean. We do keep a few stainless steel waste cans with covers strategically placed for our guest's convenience. The countertop in The Tea Room is used primarily for our continental breakfast in the mornings as we are not permitted to sell alcoholic beverages. However, guests are encouraged to enjoy their own wine or spirits and we are glad to provide the glassware any time day or night. Hope to see you here again soon!

We stayed at the Wydown over Veteran's day weekend. It was very quiet and clean. There were chocolate chip cookies every evening which my husband really enjoyed after dinner :) The breakfast is very nice and has a lot of carb options and yogurt. I would have preferred some more protein options, but it was fine. We at breakfast out a couple mornings.
The location is great, quick walks to great restaurants and wineries/wine salons. The parking was great. The only thing that would have made it that much better would have been that much better, would have been the offering of winery maps or some in the room. The front desk wasn't staffed much of the time we walked in and out, so we didn't get a map for a couple days. We did fine without, so just a little nit pick for convenience. Overall we had a wonderful stay and nice visit.

Staying in Napa can be a tricky balance for traveling between wineries, cost, service and amenities. In the case Wydown it exceeded all expectations. Location allows easy travel north and south without adding 30-45 minutes from Napa and congestion on the 128 or Silverado Trail. The room was immaculate with comfortable bedding and charm of the valley. Being in St. Helena meant we could walk to local vendors for morning coffee and taste great restaurants of the valley. Most important, the staff. . . We had recently suffered a death in the family and had to make major adjustments to our plans. Cara and other staff were understanding, personable ad went the extra mile before, during and after our stay to ensure we had a great experience. I will be staying here repeatedly.

This old historic building converted into a very private 12-room hotel surprised us in so many ways. The huge first floor lobby with massive sitting area, the dining area usefully only for breakfast, the breakfast choices of continental food sourced from famous local bake shops, coffee by Ritual, beautifully and tastefully decorated furniture and artwork even in the second floor hallway makes you feel like home. And it’s imacculately clean, even a of disinfectant is provided in our room.

The room and toilet was large by any standard. Comfortable bed and beddings with down blanket. A nespresso in case you need coffee when you wake up which I loved. The towel, the best we’ve ever had ever!!!! It’s the kind of towel I would buy for my home. The Morton Brown toilet amenities made this place classier. Unlimited water and soda for the fridge, and you don’t even need to ask because they will always ask you if you want more water. I love a place that wants to make sure your hydrated.

A few minor inconvenience such as hearing the women’s heels echoing on the wooden floor as they walked the hallway, the view because there really isn’t any, the useless radio which they should replace with a Bluetooth version. A pool or a gym? As I said very minor.

The best part are the people. We checked late and Irvin, our Filipino-Hawaiin staff greeted us warmly and every night. The breakfast crew who couldn’t stopped asking if I need more coffee or food. The warm white macadamia or chocolate chip cookies by the elevator just as you come home to cozy up in bed, yes there’s also a bucket of water bottles. And for New Year’s Eve, champagne. I’m sure they wouldn’t care if I took a bottle other than I had too much to drink already.

What it lacks in other amenities it made up for a relaxing and homey place which is what a hotel should be. Like a cookie fresh out of the oven, warm and soothes the soul.

A great way to end of 2021 holiday  vacation. Thank you Wydown, until next time.

Wydown is a fantastic boutique hotel in the heart of St. Helena. They allowed us to check in about 30 minutes early and Kara was very kind and informative. They noted that I was celebrating my birthday, and included a wrapped package of delicious Woodhouse chocolates. The personalized touches were everywhere - included beverages, welcome macarons. The room was stylish and spotless. The location is fantastic - very walkable to many different shops, restaurants, and wineries. The decor is very stylish, especially compared to other hotels. The complimentary breakfast is one of the highlights - it was good enough to have been purchased at a restaurant! We really appreciated all the little touches such as cookies in the afternoon, and complimentary tea and water bottles. Would highly recommend staying here on your visit to wine country.

There are so many wonderful aspects of this hotel!

First, the hotel is centrally located in St. Helena, which means it's walkable to many restaurants, shops, and even some vineyards like Beringer. And, with all along sidewalks! (this is a big deal, especially being located along rt 29). There is also free parking.

Second, every member of the hotel staff is friendly and helpful. They are very attentive through the text system set up for all hotel guests. Everyone I encountered from the concierge, front desk staff, housekeeping staff, and breakfast attendants, were so warm and enthusiastic about our stay.

There are some nice hospitality touches that other hotels in the area have cut, especially since the pandemic. For example, there's a mini fridge full of drinks, locally made macarons, fresh baked cookies each night, and a really good breakfast with many components offered by Model Bakery. Yes, there is a daily fee, but in my opinion, it is well worth it. The hotel also offers passes to a local gym (walkable from the hotel). I didn't have time to take advantage of this, but appreciated it.

Already looking forward to a return trip!

Welcoming boutique hotel in the best location! The staff is professional and friendly.
Rooms are spacious and king bed was so comfortable! We enjoyed the convenience of the continental breakfast in the beautiful space off the lobby. Model Bakery English muffins - so good!
Yes, you can hear the sound of women’s heels in the hall corridor, but with so few rooms it only happened a couple of times. We had an interior room with light from skylights and windows on a sliver of a courtyard. It was plenty of light and we loved the quiet!

A lovely hotel in a fantastic location. Rooms were nicely appointed and very clean. Hotel is located in the heart of downtown St Helena just a short walk to all the tasting rooms restaurants and shops. There is a lovely breakfast each morning with excellent coffee and English muffins from model bakery. There is also an assortment of fruits, yogurts and quiche/eggs, oatmeal and other breakfast goodies. All were served by a wonderful staff who made the breakfast even more enjoyable. Every evening they put out some of the most delicious fresh baked cookies as well. So many little touches along with an attentive friendly and responsive staff make this a fantastic hotel experience!!

I highly recommend this lovely and affordable boutique hotel!
