My Mom and I recently stayed at the Hotel St. Helena.
Staff were very nice and the location of the hotel was ideal.
However, I would never recommend this hotel. We were put in the Champagne Room, it was very small and there was barely enough room for the two of us and our luggage. The two single beds were awful, my back was completely out after spending one night in them. The shower is more like a gentle rain coming down and I was unable to get the soap out of my hair.
When we looked at hotels, this hotel was not the cheapest but chose it because of location, sadly its totally not worth the price or location.

My husband and I stayed here during a spur-of-the-moment overnight trip to St. Helena. The staff was friendly, efficient, and willing to give dining and regional activity recommendations. The location is great if you like to spend time shopping and dining on the main drag in St. Helena. And the off-season rates are really reasonable; the hotel included parking for the length of our stay in the room rate. I second the previous reviewer's comments about the doll and puppet fetish -- they're everywhere!

The room was clean, with a spacious bathroom, an antique wardrobe with hangers, and a nice selection of Yardley toiletries. The one downside for us was the comfort of our bed. We stayed in the Merlot room, and the sheets were scratchy. By morning, we also felt like the mattress springs had imprinted on our backsides. To make matters worse, a brass headboard was propped up behind the mattress, but it wasn't actually attached to the frame, so the slightest movement in the night resulted in the headboard knocking against the wall. Needless to say, I ended up coming home and taking a 2-hour nap to compensate for the lack of sleep the night before. Before accepting the room that they give you when you check in, I would definitely do a quick examination of the bed to see if it's going to yield a good night's sleep.

We stayed at the Hotel St. Helena on our first visit to Napa Valley last week. Our room was very small (there are larger ones available) and fairly expensive, but it was in a very good location on the main street and the bed was very comfortable, with soft, quality sheets and covers. It was also quite clean. The rest of the decor in the hotel is odd, the owner apparently has a doll fetish and they are hanging or sitting on every surface. But the rooms were fine as far as decor. Parking is very limited, so you may have to move your car every 2 hours to avoid getting a ticket during the high season. The temperature in the shower fluctuates. All in all it was a nice place, but a little pricey for what you get.

I booked this hotel for two night? On the day of our flight we we in an auto accident and had to cancel our reservations. This is the only hotel of the five we booked that charged us for cancellation. Not only do I have a totaled car, and my wife in hospital, I am being billed more that $700.00 for the two nights. So much for empathy. May the bad karma come back ten fold.

This was not a good hotel experience! It was terrible! They have absolutely nothing to offer. I would never go back. They did not give what they offered! All bad news!
Unbelievably over priced for absolutely nothing!

We spent one weekend night at that place and ended up paying over $500 just for the room. At that price we clearly expected a nice and well maintained hotel. What we got instead was a run-down dump where the room was at 86 degrees all night long (they claim to have central AC but this did not work), the room was tiny (barely enough space to stand on either side of the bed or to store luggage), the carpet smelled and looked as if it should have been remodeled 20 years ago, the bathroom was too small and not well maintained and the mattress on the bed was way past its prime. They also claim to have breakfast included but this consists of stale bread and 3 kinds of cereals; it does not start before 8:30 AM. When you leave they will not ask if you liked your stay or if you want to come back; they know the answer. My recommendation is to stay anywhere but not at that place. Saint Helena is not such a happening place that you have to stay downtown.

To begin, I booked two rooms on Jan. 19th through Orbitz. The reservation was listed as a "pay later" reservation. The day I booked the rooms $2,156.00 was charged on my credit card. The reservation wasn't until April 25th and was for 4 nights. One week later, I needed to cancel just the last night. I tried for weeks to call. NO ONE ever answers the phone and occasionally an answering service will pick up and take a message, but no one from the hotel ever returned a phone call. After numerous phone calls to Orbitz, who in turn, called the hotel and never got an answer, they finally reached the hotel, whose reply was, "Nope, can't cancel the last night". It was not written in any cancellation policy that changes to the reservation were not allowed. I eventually got so fed up, that I cancelled the entire reservation on April 6th (before the cancellation deadline). I waited 2 weeks for the credit to show. Nothing. Called the hotel over and over, finally I reach Mary, who says they can't refund the money because they never received the cancellation from Orbitz. Called Orbitz, who confirmed that the cancellation was sent to Hotel St. Helena on April 6th. On April 25th, Orbitz resent the cancellation to the hotel and confirmed that they received it. It is now May 2nd, and the money has still not been refunded to my credit card!!! And of course, no one answers the phone.

After reading the scathing reviews that I couldn't believe were true, we dropped in and asked for a tour. We were eagerly shown two rooms, which were clean and generally fine. We rented a room and had a pleasant stay. The location is great; in the middle of Main Street. It's a very old building, built in the late 1800's, so we expected things to be dated. Rates are high everywhere in Napa Valley, so again this was to be expected, however our room rate was within $20 of the place down the street and this place had far more charm. Not sure what the fuss is all about.

I could go on for weeks stating why not to go there, but instead I will leave that to your imagination. A bathroom sink with no stopper, when I enquired why..........................................................................................WAIT FOR IT I WAS TOLD THERE NEVER HAD BEEN, and to put a facecloth in the drain, abominable, straight out of the BATES MOTEL category.
Hell at $300 per night.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not book this hotel!! Do not use Booking.com . I booked this hotel through Booking.com. After I read the bad reviews, I decided to cancel. Called the hotel, manager NAncy told me the reviews were wrong, I would love it when I see the place. This is farther from the truth . I tried to cancel but the manager told booking.com, no refund. I can understand why they don’t give refund, as you would leave when you see the rooms. The linens are dirty. I was put in a room which had a sitting room, very dirty floor, with old furniture. Their employee, Robin is sweet and helpful. I spoke to another employee who she told me her name is Sandy only to find out from the house keeper that her real name is Nancy, the manager what a liar!! Pretending to be Sandy when she is the Nancy that I spoke to in June. They should close this hotel for ripping off customers. By the way they they advertise the room to have garden view??? You can see the garden when you’re looking at the window form your restroom. What a Joke!! For 300 / night, I would be glad to stay in motel 6. As a retired Colonel in the US army, I feel that it is my duty to warn people of this hotel. The pictures on the internet are deceiving. I would give this hotel -0.
