The Wine Country Inn & Cottages was a nice place to stay, but I still can’t justify the price we paid. The breakfasts were great and the views were nice. I’m glad we tried it, but we probably will never stay here again.
We had been visiting the Inn at list once a year for 15 years staying in one of the cottages or one specific suite enjoying the Smith Family hospitality We’ve have had a brief absence and decided to try the inn after a change of ownership. Requested our favorite room and was told you can only reserve room types not numbers even after explaining our long term loyalty to the inn. Sounds like each room type is the same vanilla flavor not the individuality they had (yes some decor updates were probably required but the rooms had character). Anyway if you want a place run by a larger corporation that doesn’t care about long term loyalty then this is your place

There have been countless happy return guests, as well as new guests, to the Wine Country Inn since nearly three years ago when the venerable Smith Family sold the hotel to myself. I am person and small business owner and not a corporation, as assumed by this review. During that time, new ownership has invested significantly in updating this wonderful classic Napa Valley inn to update it and most of its original 40 year old furniture and fixtures, while sustaining the inn's great charm. Every guest room has been fully updated, including a complete replacement of bathrooms, the addition of televisions, and an update of basic infrastructure to assure guest comfort with new heating/cooling and electric systems without the potential for past failures. The hotel staff, as in the past, is ready to fulfill every guest request and requirement for comfort. As importantly, the views from guest rooms and the public areas are still as luscious as ever. Unfortunately, it seems that the "review" was written before there was any chance given to experience the new look and same special personal service at the Wine Country Inn. I am sorry that this choice was made. I hope that unfounded assumptions are put aside and another choice is made to join other past and new guests to experience a special destination within the heart of the Napa Valley. We will welcome you and your past loyalty, as you have been welcomed in the past. Please join us- Rick Swig Owner
We stayed here for 4 nights for my friend's 40th birthday and were kindly upgraded to the Garden Cottage King suite when we arrived. What a nice surprise! We LOVED this place. The cottage was amazing and so cozy especially with the working fireplace. The breakfast buffet in the morning was very nice and had a nice selection. We definitely took advantage of the evening wine and cheese happy hour. So nice!! Everything about this Inn was just so lovely and I can't recommend it enough.
Beautiful, clean accommodations. Gorgeous view of the vineyards. Close to wineries north of Napa! Wonderful, homemade complimentary breakfast!! Definitely coming back and would recommend to anyone visiting the Napa area.
Wine Country Inn & Cottages is a wonderfully decorated inn just off the beaten path in St. Helena. I don’t know the age of this hotel, but our room appeared to have just been freshly remodeled with all the contemporary “farmhouse style” amenities. The appearance fit in with the overall vibe of the surrounding area. Guest services were great, as was the provided breakfast buffet in the dining area. 10/10 would return to this inn next time I’m in the St. Helena area.

The difference between the rooms is always in the eye of the innkeeper. In general the more expensive the room, the better the view and the larger the room. As mentioned, a top floor means no one will be pounding on the floor above you. But as the other reviewer mentioned, you are not likely to spend much time in the room. You will be out touring the countryside and tasting wine.

No the rooms do not all have a vineyard view. But the property is gorgeous wherever you look. My best photo of the property was actually not of the vineyard at all. I don't know if there is Uber but I'm sure you can arrange a wine tour through the hotel so you don't have to drive after tasting! I recommend Anderson Conn Valley as one of your stops ... we had a really good tour there and I bought and enjoyed some very good wine from them.
