There is no internet reception inside the hotel room, and there is no cell phone reception at this location of the mountain. It's frustrating to pay so much for a hotel stay without these essential services. The air conditioning units in your room and neighboring rooms are extremely loud, continuously turning on and off throughout the night. However, the room itself is clean, and the view is enjoyable.

Pioneer Inn is a clean, quiet jewel nestled in the CA hills. The dated exterior belies the updated and warm interior of the rooms. The manager who greeted me was warm, welcoming and happily accommodated a slight reservation change, and was knowledgeable about the area.

I had an opportunity to stay for a month at the Pioneer Inn & Suites. The room was comfortable, with high open ceiling and two queen beds. Having a microwave and refrigerator in the room was very convenient. I also appreciated the bath tub which soaked away the aches after a long day of skiing.

During the Covid 19 restrictive times, there isn't room or maid services and the pool and spa are also closed. Additionally, due to the same restrictions, breakfast is no longer available. The rooms are a bit dated, but clean and the beds are very comfortable.

The free internet is really valuable as cell service in the Pioneer area is spotty at best.

Dear Valued guest - Thank you so much for such a nice review. Yes, we did remain open just to provide limited service and lodging to folks who come up our way. Your kind words are sincerely appreciated. Hope to see you again in better times. Very best regards, Rick

We highly recommend this hotel!! We had the most wonderful 2-nights stay, my two (very picky!) teens loved it! Fresh renovated rooms, everything new and clean and impeccable, I loved wooden ceilings and huge windows facing beautiful forest. Amazing very hospitable and attentive crew, they treat you like family! We liked also liked that there are adjacent rooms (and balconies) to share with friends. There is a nice restaurant with pool tables and good food and drinks.
Short drive (under an hour) from Kirkwood, and tons of amazing places nearby! We loved Black Chasm Caverns (less than 10 minutes away and home to some super rare structures - only 2 caverns in the US have them!).

We enjoyed our stay, very clean rooms, nice patio out back with chairs and grass area. We were coming from out of state and did not arrive until after office closed and I was still able to get a key for our room, which was very nice and relieved some stress. I have only one complaint, they did not have a continental breakfast and there wasn't any place to get a bite to eat. However I would stay there again.

For a 2 star motel, bed was very comfortable and nice large towels. It was nice to have the restaurant close after so many years of being vacant. Good food. The only thing that needs attention is if you stay towards the back no internet service and no phone in the room. This would be a problem in the event of an emergency and no way to seek help if you are by yourself. A table would be suggested when you provide a kitchenette.

Clean rooms, quiet, with a lovely lady running it who checked to make sure we were happy with everything. We spent a wonderful, peaceful afternoon by the pool and had a great breakfast at Plate 88 the next morning. The perfect close to home getaway and reasonably priced.

Yet another wonderful stay. We like to come here to relax. The managers and owner are very nice and accommodating. The rooms are good. We like the kitchenette when we have the grandkids with us. The other rooms are just as nice with microwaves and small refrigerators. The surround area is beautiful, as is the bbq/pool/spa area.

This hotel was very cute and had such a homey feel. Reminded me of staying at grandma's house. The bed was very comfortable. Sheets were soft. Theres a bar right in the parking lot which is nice, no need to drive. We sincerely loved this place and will be back.

The front desk was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, modern and well stocked. The linens were clean, comfy and new. I enjoyed the private outside sitting area facing the pool. AC worked well but wifi did not. I will definitely stay there again.
