We were having a frustrating time finding a place to stay in greater LA and in desperation clicked on the Patrician. Wow, now I'm pretty much ruined for staying anywhere else in the USA. The property is in a beautiful private home in the hills above Pasadena. It was built in a Spanish/Arts and Crafts style in the 1920's and is in beautiful condition. The view at sunset is perfect with the Pacific in the far distance. Our host TJ was amazing, he's smart, gracious and funny. He worked in the movie business, and if you ask can tell you just about anything about how Hollywood really works. I promised myself that any time I go back to LA, it's gotta be the Patrician.

This place is a must-stay for those visiting Southern California. The quaintness of this historical home and the gorgeous views of the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles Basin are only superseded by the incredible hospitality of the owner, T.J. My wife and I were visiting our daughter in nearby Eagle Rock and had a wonderful stay at this place. We will definitely be back! My biggest fear is that the popularity of this place will grow so much that it will be hard to reserve a room in the future.

Feels like visiting a favorite uncle, if that uncle had exquisite taste, incredible hospitality skills and lived on a movie set that is impeccably maintained. The road up through the hills is not for anyone who drinks and I hesitate to recommend for anyone with bad knees because there are stairs for many of the rooms, but if you are looking for a get away far from the madding crowd, this is it. So grateful for a wonderfully memorable experience when I really needed it. Don’t miss sunrise! It’s amazing.

The welcome we received at this stunning house was one in a million. TJ and his other resident guests made us feel like VIPs with their warm and generous advice and anecdotes from where to get a great photograph to suggestion for parking, shopping and eating. A special mention to the property and garden: the interiors are grand and stylish and outside is a beautifully well maintained patio and garden with charming touches and even a hummingbird family. The sensation that you have found yourself on a glamorous set all contributes to a 5 star experience: unforgettable!

The Patrician is a unique B&B in its setting and its historic mansion. The host and hostess were so accommodating with lots of food available! TJ also knew the quickest and easiest ways to get to events, which for us included the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade. The early "sneak peak" review of the floats was astounding! There aren't enough words to describe how lovely of a stay this was for us, except to say, "We'll be back."

We were welcomed by the host (TJ) and properly oriented with the facility. We stayed in the Zen Garden room for a five day get-a-way and truly made to feel like we were at home. This B&B is minutes from downtown Pasadena shopping and dining. The property is absolutely gorgeous inside and out and located in a peaceful neighborhood on top a hill overlooking greater LA. We could not be happier with our choice of accommodation and would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to all. We are already looking forward to our next relaxing stay at The Patrician – thank you TJ for a great stay!

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but this was quite simply the best place to stay in L.A. Unlike a cookie cutter hotel, THE PATRICIAN is a different experience with a ton of character! We found it on booking.com. Super clean, and well maintained the place is tucked away in the hills of Pasadena as a lovely historic mansion overlooking the city with amazing sunsets, sunrises and a relaxing yard. The location has sweeping views of both downtown LA and Pasadena, set in the sometimes gated neighborhood above the Rose Bowl Stadium. Once inside, we enjoyed the authentic decor as greeted by the host TJ. He’s got interesting stories on everything from film and photo shoots done at The Patrician to handmade exotic floor tiles to what appeared to be ancient doors hung on the wall from somewhere in India. Really an interesting and somewhat exotic place to be. As I’ve come to learn though, in the end your experience all comes down to the people. T.J. & Jorie were just amazing professional hosts that made sure we had everything we needed or could want during our stay. They went over the top in making sure our visit was just spectacular in what felt like being a member of an exclusive club. Every morning the breakfast was set out, French press coffee, fresh fruit, cereal etc. The room had super comfy beds, soft towels, and T.J. has enough inside info on places to go and things to see that we could have stayed for a month to explore them all. During our stay we had breakfast with other interesting guests, like a series actor we later recognized, and a VC from Tianjin China. We enjoyed our conversations with them. Personally I really liked being close to all the excitement LA has to offer, but far enough to relax from it all. Every time we returned from our outings we felt like we were arriving somewhere along the Mediterranean. Some of our friends saw pictures from our stay on Facebook and actually thought we were at the Getty Center lol! What a great place to be and such a deal compared to hotel pricing. Our experience was just super. Highly recommended The Patrician with 2 Thumbs up.
