We went for Christmas which was not busy at all since it is a bit chilly and off season, but perfect for some wine or cocoa by the awesome fire pits. The hotel was beautifully appointed, renovated, and decorated for the holiday. They even left a stocking filled with some goodies on Christmas day on our door, very nice touch although I could not eat anything due to food allergies. They also had a hot cocoa bar which I thought was also a nice touch, but no dairy free milk, bummer. The hotel rooms and property are beautiful as well as the sweeping ocean views. They had reusable bottles of water that you could refill in the lobby and a great keurig coffee selection in your room as well. We had issues with our room not being cleaned on arrival that Jesus resolved quickly offering us another room. He truly cared about the guest experience and greated us several times during our stay to ask if all was well. My only disappointment was with our experiences with the bar staff and food we ordered . They were not the friendliest. One night we were told we could not bring our wine glasses to the firepit due to people walking barefoot by the pool. It was winter, nighttime, and there were barely any people around. We sat at the bar with them and eight guests came up to the bar 10 minutes later with all of their assorted drink glasses to return. That was not right to enforce rules only part of the time. The bar staff was even less friendly and helpful the next night. I waited 45 min for my food and then it was not even accurate. I was never offered an apology or any service from the bartender. The manager, Sofia, however was very helpful and apologetic. Hopefully they will train the bar staff to treat customers better and also for the kitchen to provide better quality and consistency of food. The only other issue I had during my stay was that due to my Hilton status ,I had 2 free hours of beach rentals from the shop and was only allowed to use 1 hour per chair. It was not even worth taking the chairs all the way down to the beach just to walk back a half hour later to return them. A ridiculous perk that I couldn't use. Other than that, the hotel was beautiful. …
This hotel is in a great location, right on the beach. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Guest check in was awesome. Everyone was very friendly. Heated pools made it perfect for nearing winter temperatures. Just wish I would have taken one of the rooms right on the beach!
We used to love this place for years, when it was Embassy Suites! We went and spent almost $3000 for 3nights for a beach front room! Every thing was under construction that we were not told about! And the carpets in front of the 700 a night room was filthy!!! Like a trap house! Looked like they had not cleaned any carpets in years! We stayed on a weekend at 7am we heard loud banging that went on for a hr! Everyone in the hallway was out because the whole floor could hear the supper loud banging at 7am on a sat! For overa hr!! Everyone called to say construction was going on and they lied and said absolutely no construction on the weekend but later my husband saw the construction guys and talked to them in Spanish and they told us the hotel of course knows they were there working! They messed up and gave our original room away! The chair i sat in broke and the shower head feel off and the door came apart! The room was falling apart! Also the smoke alarms went off and we thought it was of fire! No cocktail hr! Now they don't even offer..Mikey moused breakfast! That they have no more..All of the employees were great and I felt bad for them because you can tell this place has understaffed! This place now seems like they want the most money from us but but are cheap to give that same quality! Now they are not even Embassy Suites! This place used to be great but not anymore! They have become greedy and cheap but want top dollar! They charge lots of money for every little thing parking /resort fee they now nickel and dime you for everything and they do not have 5× quality! Sad they have now completely changed and not for the good! …
We visited this hotel in Dec 2016 when it was an Embassy Suites and couldn’t get a room in Santa Barbara. We arrived at night and woke up to a spectacular view of the beach, with paths for bikers and runners and walkers and palm trees. It was quite memorable. The location of this hotel is plus. It’s a great location. And it’s quiet. Now with the hotel, rebranded as a more upscale hotel, with a quite a few fire pits it’s even more appealing. The rooms are still spacious and suite like with a separate room with a sofa and dining area, microwave, coffee, small refrigerator, 2 bathrooms, outside table and chairs…. Some negatives: - a resort fee of $30 night and that does NOT include use of bicycles. There is a pool that families seem to like but it was mostly raining on our visit - website says breakfast is included and now as a rebranded curio collection, this is no longer an offering ( false) - cocktails are odd mixes with no Prosecco or sparkling wine, and little to order to have with a drink. - the restaurant and bar menu is unusual and awfully expensive. We are vegetarians and there was little to eat. I can’t imagine it appeals to families who might seek more familiar food, and the prices are quite high as if it were a Four Seasons. We noticed some foreign guests photographing the food which is presented well, but … ( I come from a city with James Beard award winning restaurants, and chefs, but this food was not foodie food! ) French Press coffee for 2 = $14.00 (seriously?) Positives: - Location location to the beach. - Spacious rooms with a pull out sofa and 2 bathrooms. - Night time fire pits for sitting and having a drink or snack. - The hotel allows dogs and there were quite a few well mannered dogs - Management was responsive when we showed them the website wrote that ‘breakfast was included. ‘…
This "resort" was a serious let down. We travelled from overseas to stay here and were greatly disappointed. 1. Hot waters didn't work, we needed to call maintenance 2. Lift doesn't operate at night, so be prepared to walk up and down flights of stairs from the garage to your room. Called front desk to fix, they never did 3. Ask for an extra blanket, took half and hour, went back down stairs to enquire where is the blanket, oh yes just put the request through now, we are so busy,....the resort was 3/4 empty. 4. No towels in the pool area, put in a request for towels, they never came, kids walked back to the room, wet and cold 5. Daily parking fee was ridiculous and way over priced. 6. Resort fee is a rip off 7. No child friendly meals at the restaurant which is over priced. I went in to ask a question and was ignored 8. No maid service ever came to do our rooms. 9. Felt judge by front desk people , made me uncomfortable 10. Beautiful renovation but very overpriced and underwhelming …
There are so many new fees like a “resort fee” which means you pay for something that use to be free but can’t sit anywhere without buying overpriced food. Nothing in the rooms worked, I couldn’t open the shower door without lifting up the toilet sit. More money for less should be the slogan for Hilton.
We've been coming to Mandalay Beach with our children for over 33 years. Now our children are bringing their children to celebrate Thanksgiving at the beach. Whether it was called Embassy Suites, Mandalay Beach Resort or any other name we could always count on several things: *Buffet breakfast *Happy Hour"; games and drinks for kids & adults *2 spas *Family themed and affordable Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel But now none of the above exists. Now: *$700 Cabana rental, * $25 priority pool chairs and *$155 pre person Thanksgiving dinner. The remodel is pretty and the firepit was fun to roast marshmallows. But this resort has lost its "Heart"! Sadly, we're disappointed in its new direction!
1. You cannot find anything. If you arrive after dark, there is no light outside to guide you to your building and it’s very confusing, trust me on this. I don’t know what moron designed this layout and why they don’t at least install lighting to show you the way. To make things worse, you are given a map with buildings named A,B,C, etc., but the elevators sign lead you to “Building 3&4”. It would make sense if “A” was equal to “1”, “B” was equal to “2”, etc., but this is not the case. Our building, “B”, was reached by elevator leading to “Buildings 3&4”, go figure... 2. Parking and rooms are separated by an ocean of steep and confusing walkways. It does not prevent them from charging you $36/day for self-parking, after which you have to walk a mile, making several wrong turns in the general darkness… 3. Enormous construction noise in the Lobby, right next to the restaurant, impossible to hear / talk, this includes restaurant and reception and shops area. 4. The rooms, while large, are unwelcoming and cold with very noisy fans for heat/A/C. All kind of malfunctioning sensors cause lights and fans to go on and off randomly and scary, as if prompted from ghosts. The rooms are furnished and decorated in depressing black & gray palette, bringing you nothing of the eternal lightness of California, only gloom and depression. Traces of shabby contractors work during the recent renovation are all over (see Pix). 5. They saved on carpets, leaving the floors of the corridors bare tiles, which, in these days and times when everybody has a rolling suitcase, produces enormous noise from early morning on. 6. The phone system does not work. In order to reach the restaurant, after several unsuccessful tries on the house phone, I had to call the outside number from my cell and ask to be transferred to the restaurant. 7. The elevators don’t’ work 8. The restaurant’s menu is Asian, almost exclusively, nothing wrong with this, except when you happen not to like Asian food. No choices. Plus, the place is so far away from the highway, nothing else is available. Having driven all day and being hungry, we did order food from the restaurant, after long negotiations, explaining exactly what we want. Forty minutes later the food arrived elegantly presented in a brown bag (see picture). And it was inedible. The salads, specified and confirmed “Roman lettuce” were actually a few faded leaves of “field greens”. The “wings” were actually the whole wing smothered in some very hot sauce that even featured the seeds of the chilies used and we left them untouched. The bread, specifically requested, was missing. The burger was a tasteless patty swimming in mayo and hosted between two slices of bread. That stayed untouched too. Many signs still feature “Embassy Suites”, this it must have been prior to the “Curio” assignation. 9. No breakfast, of course, in accordance with Hilton’s policy of “the more you pay, the less you get”. Conrad Hilton would be turning in his grave if he knew what liberties they are taking with the customers in the hotels he started and developed all over the world. 10. Given all of the above, the prices are absolutely ridiculous.…
Everything is new in this remodeled Hilton. It used to be called Mandalay Beach Resort and I miss that vibe. Don’t really get the new Zacharies name. But on the upside the staff was super friendly and took care of requests promptly—from heat issues to bringing extra linens. Very comfortable bed and wonderful beach access. Hilton has also instituted a free two hour rental on everything from paddle boards to monopoly games. Saw several families resent hover boards. They even have a record player and selected albums to enjoy — all In the gift store. Brand new gym. Outdoor fire pit at night right outside the restaurant.
I took my mom and family here for a birthday celebration. We booked three rooms and my brother came to join from out of town in a fourth room. This hotel was renovated and re-branded as a Curio. It used to be an Embassy Suites. The whole hotel felt brand new, they did a great job updating the rooms and public spaces. What stood out the most was the service—every team member encounter was warm and friendly. Felt like being at a Waldorf or 5-star property. At check in I met the GM and could tell his leadership was solid. Can’t wait to come back.
