The customer service was amazing. They found out we were celebrating my husband's birthday and sent champagne and chocolate to the room. I forgot to hang the breakfast order on the door by midnight so I texted the number they had given me and they sent someone up to get it at around 1:00 AM. Whoever trains the staff on customer service should train the entire hotel industry. Our room was beautiful. I always wear socks in hotel rooms because sometimes carpet isn't cleaned that often. I was shocked that my white socks were still perfectly white after wearing them several evenings. Housekeeping was amazing! The view was spectacular and the sound of the waves was perfect! A perfect four day getaway. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed here in an ocean front room for New Years get away. It was a second time here. What I love, location! Walking to Cannery Row, Aquarium, Wharf, downtown. You cannot beat this location. It sits right on the main path to all areas. We watched the seals and sea otters right from our balcony! They provide handy binoculars to see even more. Plenty of restaurants and coffee places near by. The hotel delivers a very nice continental breakfast that we loved. Bed was very comfortable, good linens and towels. Bathroom was roomy with a double sink. Very good shower pressure! Overall a beautiful places to stay and a bargain if you are looking to stay right on the water (note, this is compared to other hotels right on the water). What could be better: they charge $25 for parking, I didn’t realize this and might have parked elsewhere, when paying $500 for a room, I’d expect parking to be included. The common area bathrooms should be updated, very old. Other: We didn’t use the hot tub, but one on site, so bring a bathing suit.

Response from Inns of Monterey, General Manager at Monterey Bay Inn

Dear mayamrsG, Thank you for the positive ratings and comments. We're glad you had an overall comfortable and lovely time staying with us and enjoyed the views, breakfast, and our location. Regarding the parking fee, we try very hard to ensure our guests are charged for only what they want and use. Some neighboring hotels use a "resort fee" to charge guests for amenities, whether they are used or not. In the interest of our guests, we offer optional amenities and services, such as parking, separately. We do our best to be transparent with our guests. We appreciate your feedback, which has been shared with our team, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We hope this does not deter you from staying with us in the future, and we have the opportunity to welcome you back during your next visit to Monterey. Sincerely, Monterey Bay Inn

First time in Monterey and we had a great stay at the Monterey Bay Inn. A beautiful room with a stunning view and a balcony looking over the beach. The sound of the sea lions was great and binoculars were supplied in the rooms so great to see them all at the end of the pier..A very comfy bed and a large bathroom with double sinks..A lovely continental breakfast was served to our room each morning , time of your choosing and if weather permitting lovely to have on the balcony. A hot tub is available which we did use and it was lovely and warm. Very friendly staff..

My wife and I checked in and were greeted very professionally and courteous by Darren Trenton. He surprised us by upgrading us to an ocean view suite, which was a beautiful suite. The hotel is a very well maintained older Hotel but it is perfectly located where it’s convenient to get to the wharf and the Aquarium. Great customer service.

Good location on Cannery Row right on the Pacific Ocean. Decent hotel, comfy bed, large bathroom, clean. The delivered continental breakfast-yogurt, fruit, muffins, coffee, juice, hard boiled eggs-was fine. Not fancy but liked the delivery! Nice balcony overlooking the beach and within listening to crashing ways. Did the trick.

Cute hotel on the water in Monterey. We enjoyed watching the otters and hearing the ocean waves all night. The bed was comfy and the delivered cold breakfast was fine. We walked to Osteria al Mare and brought our food back to the room for a pleasant oceanfront dining experience. One suggestion- provide a couple bottles of water because the tap water tastes really bad! we asked for water and they charged us $2.50, come on when you’re paying $500 for a room give us some drinking water.

We checked in for 2 nights earlier this month as part of our road trip. We used the hotel as our home base to visit Big Sur. Overall, there was nothing wrong with our stay but felt ordinary for the money spent. Would rate our stay 3*-3.5 *. See below for further details. The good: spacious room, large bathroom with two sinks, near Cannery Row. Neutral: average cold breakfast included with room. Could be improved: decor is getting dated, safe was not working. Other tips: - We had a pretty good meal at Osteria Al Mare (Italian). It is closed on Monday - We tried Lalla Grill and wouldn't recommend it - If you visit Big Sur, suggest a full day and finish your day at Point Lobos

Hotel is in a good location with lovely views across the bay. Continental breakfast was good and the best but it was delivered to our room on the time we asked for. Receptionist was helpful on where to eat, the cookies were good.

This is our 4th stay here and we love it. I was going to write an in detail review about the hotel amenities etc, but realized many have already done so; instead I'll highlight the customer service and the two water view rooms. First of all, we have had occasion to interact with Stacey Lee, Director of Operations, and she is the upmost professional. She cares about our guest experience and personally has been involved in some of our inquiries and requests. The front desk and housekeeping staff are very efficient and attentive. We have not stayed in a Cannery Row room, so can not review those rooms. We initially stayed in a Harbor View room, and were upgraded to an Ocean View, so we wanted to primarily compare the two. The price difference between the Harbor and Ocean is not incredible. We usually opt for the Harbor View. However, since we had been treated to an upgrade to the Ocean View, I can say that if you want more privacy and ocean sound, spend the extra cash on this room! It's still so much more affordable and sometimes a better view than the upscale hotels down the street (know this from a previous stay at one of them). The Harbor View balconies are not out of view from pedestrians and beach walkers, whereas the (at least higher) Ocean View rooms are private. We really like both, and unless it is crazy busy and noisy on the road/beach, the Harbor View will certainly give us the ocean fix without too much distraction. Note: Rooms right next to the rooftop hot tub are a bit noisier due to folks going in and out of the locked door, and you can hear them while on your balcony. The parking is on-site under the inn (easy to get things in/out from your vehicle) and you are allowed to remain parked there for a few hours after check-out. This inn is more quiet than locations in the heart of Cannery Row and is located under 15 minutes walk time to either the Aquarium or Fisherman's Wharf. This is a quieter, more laid back, less pretentious option than some of the bigger hotels, but with the same great ocean views. We have only stayed on the 4th floor (per other reviewers' advice), so we did not experience overhead noise and was probably quite than lower floors. So you gotta ask yourself...do you want to spend BUCKS for fancy bells and whistles for your ocean side lodging or reasonable prices with awesome guest service at this smaller gem? If you want the perks and fancy lobby, but still want the same view, expect to pay almost double. We had a partial view at one of the big hotels. Yes, you could SEE the ocean, but it was not right next to the water and not private. We enjoyed the fancy restaurant and room service and grounds etc, but we were disappointed in the floor. Already booking our next stay!
