Nestled in an idyllic location, The Inn at Mattei's Tavern, an Auberge Resorts Collection hotel, garners praise for its service and charm. Many guests admire the pristine cleanliness and spaciousness of the rooms, replete with modern luxuries and cozy fireplaces.
While the hotel's amenities, including a delightful pool area, contribute to its allure, some visitors express concerns over slow service and the value, given the high costs. Nevertheless, the convenient access to local attractions and wine tastings makes it a popular choice for travelers.

Detailed Reviews
Visited during soft opening. Tavern is wonderful. Property has spectacular pool and fitness, but is many months away from completion of spa area. Management is excellent and friendly (and went out of their way to make our stay amazing!). Upgraded rooms (thank you Auberge!) are also beautiful and of the highest quality i every detail, but base rooms are a disappointment (too small, including bathrooms) as are second-floor rooms. Shower water pressure is poor (ironic when you consider thar one centerpiece of the hotel is an old water tower) but showers themselves are beautiful. Resort grounds more resemble an old military base than a 5-star resort but, with time and more plantings, the space could be very special. Location allows guests to walk to downtown Los Olivos (a real plus) but hotel shockingly has few “free tastings” deals with the main wine tasting venues in the area. For the anticipated hotel prices, this should be negotiated and soon.

Dear Richard G- Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed the Tavern, pool, and fitness. I am also pleased that you felt the team was friendly and engaging. I am so sorry to learn that the water pressure in your room was not suitable. We have since made some adjustments to ensure the experience is improved. We have also taken some steps to further enhance the landscaping now that spring is upon us. We look forward to welcoming you back for many more stays!

Always looking to visit new hotels, we set out to a favorite area to experience this recently opened one and overall enjoyed our time here.
We stayed in a Garden Terrace King Studio that was spacious and bright. We loved the window seat and the overall charm of the room which included a hardwood floor, beamed ceiling, and a fireplace. The bathroom was large with a big walk in shower, claw foot tub, two faucet sink, and separate water closet. The patio was lovely with a lounger, two cushion chairs, and a café table for two. The gas fire pit was very effective and made it easy to enjoy time outside when the air cooled. Our only complaint was the outdoor space has bare privacy fencing on three sides which was not an attractive look. Also our neighbors were quiet, but noise could easily be a factor if you are not as lucky.
The resort is spread out amongst one and two story white farmhouse styled structures. In the middle is a nice long pool with comfortable loungers around it and a small bar/lunch spot. The gym was a highlight for me. It is housed in a double height good-looking room with tall windows out to the pool. There is enough equipment to almost get a full workout with room to add a few more machines.
The restaurant and bar are housed in the original stagecoach stop. The interior design is a very nice modern update to the classic cozy tavern aesthetic. We had breakfast once and had a decent meal. In general, we found the menu a little limiting, so we only had the one meal.
The hotel is on the fringe of the small and ultra-charming downtown Los Olivos. It is easy to walk to and has more than a handful of nice wine tasting establishments and several good restaurants.
The only drawback to the hotel is that it fronts a busy road, and thus there is a fair amount of noise from fast traveling cars. Fresh landscaping will take time to hide it. I would say about a third of the rooms are affected by this, less so for rooms close to the pool. We were fine with it, but it should be noted. The resort fee is $50 per day and there is no parking fee as you can park on your own near your room.

The Inn at Mattei’s is a relatively new property, built last year, next to the original Mattei’s Tavern. My wife was up in Los Olivos and discovered it and got a tour. We called and made reservations right away. The entire staff is amazing here.
We arrived at the property and headed to the Tavern patio for lunch. Lunch was fantastic. We had the BEST tuna melt (aka Hot Tuna Sammie) and a salad. We also enjoyed a great bottle of wine.
Upon check-in, Sean graciously welcomed us with cocktails. Our room, a luxurious first-floor retreat, was a sight to behold. The spacious patio, complete with a firepit and comfortable seating, offered a perfect spot for relaxation. The bathroom, a marvel of modern design, and the immaculate bedroom exuded comfort. The fully stocked refrigerator was a thoughtful touch, adding to the feeling of being pampered. There was also a Nespresso coffee machine that was fantastic.
We walked around the property and found a great spa, pool, gym, etc. We went to the pool, and there was a bar with a great menu. When we arrived, the guys brought us glasses of water. The pool is rectangular and 3.5/4 feet deep. It is an amazingly relaxing environment. My wife went to the spa and got a deep tissue massage that she absolutely loved.
We made reservations on the patio for dinner and were met with Vermouth cocktail shots as a starter. (Another nice touch) For dinner, we shared the “bread for all”, Tavern strip (NY strip) and salad. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection.
The last morning we went for breakfast and had the best Egg, Sammie and Frittata. The coffee was fantastic as well.
We never left the property, except for a walk. We are looking forward to our next trip – very soon!

This is a brand new resort, open less than a year when we stayed there. It is a nice place still suffering growing pains that affect the quality of a stay. The developers also cut a few corners that affect the quality of a stay.
The rooms are spacious and well appointed, but the developers cut corners on sound insulation. We had a first floor room and listened to every footstep in the room above us. There were a few bits of the resort that simply had not been finished. For nstance the cable tv to all the machines in the fitness center had never been connected. Every time I asked about it the front desk staff pretended it was a surprise to the and they would “have somebody look into it immediately.” I would be much happier being told that they are still finishing up the details of the resort than being repeatedly lied to.
Our other issue with the resort is that they have crammed too many units into the space available. Our unit came with a small patio with fire pit, surrounded by a nice privacy fence. Unfortunately there was another building 20 feet away whose upstairs windows looked directly down into our “private” patio.
When they get all the small opening issues sorted out, this will be a nice place. But having stayed at other Auberge resorts, we would say that pre-construction choices have left this resort short of the usual Auberge standard.

Had a fantastic stay at Inn at Mattei's! From the get-go, the staff exuded warmth and friendliness. It was evident some were new, yet their dedication to service was impressive.
I must highlight Dante, who made our stay extra memorable with his personal touch and attention to detail.
The room was exceptional, offering top-notch amenities that only added to our comfort. If you're familiar with Auberge Resorts, then you know the quality they bring. Their location in Calistoga is equally commendable.
All in all, Inn at Mattei's is a must-visit. I'll surely be back the next time I'm in the area.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of June and the hotel is located within walking distance of Los Olivos. The hotel is expensive but worth the price because you never wanted to leave the hotel after checking in. We lounged by the pool, had drinks outside, ate at the hotel, etc. We would definitely stay there again.

Taking a top-spot on my bucket list, The Inn at Mattei's did not disappoint. My fiance and I enjoyed a relaxing and weekend at the beautiful resort. The location can't be beat -- a quick walk to Los Olivos' main tastining rooms and shops while only a short 10-15 drive from neighboring towns including Los Alamos, Buellton, and Santa Ynez. The resort is beautiful with incredible attention to detail thoughout the design and decor. This was one hotel where I wanted to spend as much time as possible in the room and next to the fire pit. I was also especially impressed by the food and restaurants. Often at resorts, the menu feels like an afterthought or catered to those with less adventurous tastes -- but at Mattei's, I was so happy to find a thoughtful, unique, and seasonal menu. Truly delicious. The pool and yoga classes were top notch. Mentally, I'm still poolside and will imagine myself back there during stressful days at work.
Light sleepers should ask for a room that's further set back from the road -- due to the town being so quiet, you do hear the cars going by -- and an upper floor room since you can hear your neighbors walking when on the ground level.

My husband and I had an absolutely grade A stay at Mattei's and are already scheming on when we can come back. The basic room was spacious and good value, with a sizable and well-laid out bathroom, especially compared to the Fess Parker where we had stayed in the past in Los Olivos. We had the best time hanging in the bar - chatting with the bartender and fellow guests, and having a delicious late dinner. We loved that the bar serves a true menu of food and dessert and we didn't have to go to the more formal restaurant for a real meal.
Staff were extremely kind, easygoing and helpful. For example, when we couldn't figure out our fire pit at midnight, a technician was at the door in 5 minutes. Everyone we interacted with seemed friendly and happy to be working at the hotel.
We stayed at a Belmond and an Andaz in the couple of weeks after this stay and this Auberge property was without a doubt the frontrunner. We're excited to visit in summer when we can use the pool!

We visited Los Olivos/Solvang for the first time and thanks to Mattei’s Inn, we will be back.
New to the area, the hotel set a great first impression. Just like the pictures, the hotel is rich with history- luxurious with a modern farmhouse twist. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, with plenty of outside seating.
The staff was friendly and accommodating throughout our entire stay (shout out to Cesar for going the extra mile). We stayed in the 2nd floor cottage accompanied with its own private balcony; beds were very comfortable. The pool/spa area was one of my favorite spots; perfect for lounging or swimming laps.
The food experience was 10/10. From the breakfast sandwich at Felix Feed…to the squid ink risotto at The Tavern. Chef Rhoda is truly a marvel.
If you’re looking to peruse some local boutiques or stop by some tasting rooms (highly recommend Carruci Wines), the hotel is a short walk to downtown los olivos. We were also pleased with the quick 10-minute drive to charming Slovang.
Mattie’s is without a doubt the premiere hotel/resort in the central coast. We are looking forward to our next visit!

The Inn at Mattei's Tavern was the perfect place for a wedding getaway.
Friends were getting married so a group of us all booked at the Inn.
Being so close to so many tasting rooms was such a treat, but the property of Mattei's was unreal. The rooms were spacious and the staff were so incredibly friendly. I stayed 3 mights and wanted to stay more.
I could easily come back here to do a week of work remotely in my room with compete and utter focus, no distractions and still return home feeling recharged.
