Very cute hotel right on the beach. At first I thought the area was a bit sketchy (I'm a NY'er so I'm used to sketchy areas) during the day - but at night was VERY quiet. We walked everywhere - Abbott Kinney, the canals....both very close. We uber'ed it to the Santa Monica Pier - only $5! Our room was...

Loved everything about this hotel. Room was great, great breeze coming through the windows, loved the old fashioned elevator, the roof top deck was perfect, use of beach chairs & umbrellas was an added bonus. But the best part was the customer service. Daniella was fabulous!!! She went above & beyond to accommodate us & help us out. Could not...

I struggled to find a fun place with character to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My husband and I last visited Venice Beach more than 30 years ago. This hotel is really fun with loads of extras provided. Our room was immaculate, had a bit of a ocean view and exceeded our needs. You know there is character when people comment on...

I stumbled upon this place on wotif when looking for accommodation while on Venice Beach on a road trip down the Californian Coast...........and what a little gem it is! The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful from the moment I entered the property. It is a very old building with a very quaint, noisy, slow elevator, but I absolutely...

This has got to be the most comfortable, clean hotel we have ever stayed in. The atmosphere of this over 100 year old hotel includes brick walls, narrow halls and a bird-cage elevator. It's location is phenomenal...in the middle of Venice beach boardwalk! The staff is friendly and professional. I would recommend to not miss this.

With all of the warnings on the website and responses to reviews, I thought that we were in for a super rustic and hardly livable time - untrue! This is an adorable boutique hotel that is near so much and has so much charm! They were doing some work in the hallways so "passing" in a very narrow area proved...

We're humbled by your praise, Penny. We always strive to paint an accurate portrait of what our hotel is and what it isn't. It is a 2.5 star, 104 year-old hotel centered in a beautiful beach neighborhood that can be very strange & unusual to the uninitiated. And while we don't have on-site parking or air conditioning or room service...

We were lucky enough to stay here on the day that the roof top deck was opened. It's such a perfect place to sit, relax and watch the skateboarders and the vendors and all the hustle and bustle of the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Great sunset too! We enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and were pleased with the size of...

So far so good in this first day at this Venice-centric location. Right on the beach. Literally, there is no street on front for cars; it's a boardwalk and it's for bicycles, skateboards and all non-car transportation methods. You might think you're paying above average but you have to admit that you're 'in' Venice beach.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts; we're happy that you're happy! Great advice here on the best ways to get around the beach & Boardwalk... Love this place so much! Our second time back and wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting Venice Beach. The rooms are clean with everything you need. Staff are the best, so accommodating! Thank you, Toni, not only for the succinct yet detailed summary of your stay but for sharing those excellent photos! Talk about a visual tour; our hotel, Betsy (our birdcage-style elevator!), the roofdeck, beer on a balcony, even Venice Boardwalk roller-blading guitar icon Harry Perry... what a showcase!

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
