Hotel's Favourite
Awesome place near Hollywood boulevard (walking distance) Totally loved this hotel, would recommend to all my friends and family, staff is super friendly, decoration is beautiful and the rooftop rocks! If you are a guest staying at the hotel they instantly put you top on the waiting list for the rooftop, wich has a great demand Great clean rooms and has an interactive TV system, very cool (thanks for having adult films selection LOL)

My friend reccomended this place to us, we never would have found it without being reccomended it as its not really easy to find or well advertised. We visited the roof top bar, the drinks were delicious! Sadly I didnt take much on the food menu so we didnt eat but the staff were lovely and the drinks were spot on.

I stayed there with my 16 yo daughter for 4 nights and we just loved everything, from the guys the reception, they were really nice and helpful, the waiters in the rooftop, the security guy at the elevator, everyone was so nice to us, we speak english, but we are from Chile so it was great that some of them speak spanish too. About our room, it didn´t had a view, but we spent a lot of time outside, and it was clean and the bed was really confortable, so it was good for us. We arrived before the check in time, so the girl in the reception stored our luggage until our room was ready, so we were able to take a walk around while we wait. I read a review talking about the noise, we didn't have any problems with that. I love the hotel and I hope we can go again.

We truly enjoyed a 3 night stay at Mama LA. Ideally located in the heart of WeHo, the typical spirit you can expect from Mama Shelter is definitely here !! The building itself provides a great rooftop standing over Hollywood and large enough to host great dj sets on Sunday night ! The food offer comes with hispanic influences : it definitely works. The very friendly staff delivers a very warm and fluid service, the daily front desk in particular. Leave any negativity behind you once you step in at Mama La. They'll bring you into their careful, comfy, and playful world. This stay already left a mark in my memories. Thank you !

If you want to party at a night club and not sleep? THIS is your place!!! If you want to stay at a hotel and enjoy your vacation and relax?? Stay far far away from this place. As some of these reviews mention, Mama Shelter cares way more about being a night club than a hotel. Just trying to check in to the hotel is like getting into an exclusive night club. We literally had to elbow our way (and get elbowed by others) just to get inside the hotel. Then we had to push our way through a practical mosh-pit just to get to the guest elevators. When I raised my concerns about our hellish and ridiculous weekend (which I won't go into detail here on), the General Manager, Andrew Jay, wrote me back immediately and said..."We appreciate your feedback". I literally LOL'd when I got his ridiculous response. This GM runs a great nightclub but has no clue how to take care of hotel guests. No apology. No acknowledgment. No offer to improve. Nothing. Don't spend your money here. You deserve to be treated like a hotel guest. I should close by saying if you're a Mama Shelter fan like I am, the Los Angeles hotel is NOTHING like any of the other properties across Europe. Don't do it. Save the money and fly to Paris and stay at Mama Shelter Paris where they actually care about the humans staying inside.

Johnnyret, thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry we didn’t meet your expectations for Mama Shelter. We do our best to uphold the same standards worldwide, and during Super Bowl in Los Angeles the city experienced an influx of many visitors. We hope that you return one day and allow us the opportunity to show you Mama hospitality at it’s finest. Please reach out to me directly to arrange this at your earliest opportunity. Love, Mama

I will cut right to it. I write this review from my hotel room at Mama Shelter. The staff is great. Very pleasant. Very helpful. The food this time around was... meh. Which was surprising because the one time I ate here before, the food was great, which made me want to stay here for my next LA trip. This is that trip and staying here was a mistake. The rooms are not soundproof. Not only can I hear the corny frat bro conversation of my neighbors. I can clearly hear the music from the rooftop. It's like trying to fall asleep in the middle of a club. Besides me flying in from the East Coast so I'm not in sync with the times zone, the music is not even enticing me to want to go join. Did I hear Destiny Child's Bills Bills Bills? Who did the DJ blackmail for this job? Who's playlist is this? The music starts around 7pm and doesn't end until 2am ish. I really hate to write this review knowing how hard the pandemic has been on the hospitality industry, but this is a nightmare for anyone looking for a relaxing room to sleep in. To be more complete in my review I'll give some other highlights. The location is great. Very walkable and electric scooters are everywhere for longer commutes. The room itself is great. Comfortable bed, clean. Housekeeping is as requested rather than automatic. Which I'm fine with. There are unhoused people nearby but this is LA. They have a significant issue with the unhoused like... every other major US city. I do not believe they pose a threat or make the area unsafe. Just sad to see, honestly. But Mama Shelter has all the booze and obnoxiously loud music to drown out your sorrows. Would not recommend anyone to stay in the hotel but would definitely come back for the restaurant and nightclub, which is what this place really is.

Thank you, retiredg2022, for staying at Mama LA. We appreciate your staying the hotel and your many fine comments. We agree, our location is great--in close walking distance to many famous attractions in Los Angeles/Hollywood. We appreciate your found our bed comfortable, the room clean, the team great. Our location in Hollywood, in the "Vinyl District," is busy. Music has been the hallmark of our part of Hollywood since the 1950's. We continue to offer a wide variety of programming of all types of music, comedy, and art. (Check our our comedy nights on Tuesday and Thursday night--these are always free despite having famous comics on our rooftop). On weekend nights we are open until 2am, and on warm weekends it is very popular--so the people themselves, the scene itself, energized. It is a great place to be for many. Perhaps the other nights are a better fit for those seeking quietude. We appreciate your being with us and hope to see you soon--for comedy nights or other nights when we close at midnight. Love, Mama

Hello Karyn D, thank you for staying at Mama LA and for your many comments. Most of all, thank you for praising our great team. Our team is lovely! We now offer many non alcoholic drinks on our rooftop and lobby bars. These are legit drinks, polished and sophisticated. We are working to replace our towels--during covid it has been difficult to have a great laundry service--so we are replacing with new products. Housekeeping during covid is upon request, like most all hotels in the USA. This is to protect team members and guests--but it is available by asking the front desk for it. We do offer most amenities that any traveler would need, and spare items like toothpaste for sale in the lobby. We hope when you return to Los Angeles you stay with us again--and find all our many positives enhanced and our cons few, if any. Love, Mama

I've stayed here a handful of times over the last couple of years, and every time I do I have the same great experience. You can check out other reviews for decor and amenities; what I love about Mama is the way she makes me feel. The first time I booked based solely on proximity to my daughter's home. When I walked in the door, I immediately thought, "I am way too old and uncool to be staying here," and I steeled myself for a less-than-enthusiastic welcome from the fabulous children staffing the front desk. I couldn't have been more wrong. Mama Shelter has a truly spectacular rooftop bar and a great restaurant, and both are draws for a young, cool crowd. Despite the fact that everyone I could see, including the employees, was young and hip and beautiful, and I am a 58yo mom who looks exactly and only like a 58yo mom (from somewhere that is not LA, no less), I was welcomed with genuine warmth and impressive professionalism. Not a nanosecond of side-eye. I felt like I belonged from the moment I checked in, and through my several stays here, that never waivers. Last night I checked in again, this time with my daughter, and we had kind of set ourselves up for difficulty--arriving in two separate vehicles, too much luggage . . . we do know better, but that was the situation this particular time. Once again, I found myself just wanting to bake cookies for everyone who works here. There is no valet at the moment (COVID), but everyone who was working jumped in to help us: the sweet security guard graciously walked down the street to carry our bags. Angel at the front desk not only expedited the process for us, but also physically ran down the street to stop us from parking in the wrong lot. This morning I've camped out in the bar, which is closed at the moment, but the lovely girl at the front desk made me and my computer and my numerous little questions feel nothing but welcome. Honestly, this is a review for Mama Shelter, but it should also be for all the Mamas who raised these nice young adults. Seriously, y'all--what kind of cookies? This Mama loves you right back.
